Display cabinets, what are they for?

They are generally used as a cupboard for storing things that people like to see. Many places keep these Display items on shelving, however as the items are open to the air they accumulate dust and therefore need cleaning often. If they were in a cupboard with a solid opaque door then the dust problem goes away however the contents can't be seen.... Hence the invention of a display cabinet... The glass fronted doors allow the contents to be seen whilst at the same time protecting them from the rapid accumulation of dust. The cupboard also helps protect against pets,small children and clumsy oafs knocking into the display and damaging it. People collect and display almost anything, it could be pottery figurines, plush toys, beanie babies, music, fridge magnets, antique snuff boxes, pretty much anything. They are not as popular nowadays as for many people the fashion in their homes is to declutter and have fewer items on display. Hence the reason why second hand shops are full of display cabinets, often at bargain prices.
