Would it be strange to give lucky red envelopes to British children?

It's Chinese New Year and it's custom to give red envelopes filled with cash to children. I'm Chinese and normally just give to my younger unmarried family members who are all Chinese. But some of my friends have started to have children now and I'll see them over this period. I can explain the custom to my friends but I'm wondering if it'd be considered a bit weird, as I'd essentially be gifting cash to quite young children (was thinking like £10)? I don't want them to feel awkward about it, nor do I expect them to gift anything back (they wouldn't anyway under the customs until I had children). Am I overthinking it?
