Don't feel bad, they've happened to me a few times
At friends apartment at college.
Just bought my first pistol from a gun show (I was 18)
Drinking with friends
Show them my new Jericho
Try to manually decock
Thumb slips on hammer, ND into celling Upstairs neighbors too high and drunk (underage and illegal drugs) to call the police.
Second time
At range
Showing friend pistol
Think gun is unloaded
Point at ground show him how to wrack and pull the trigger.
Forgot loaded mag in
Shoot between his feet
Third time
At parents house.
Just bought a sig from a guy
Get home
Try swapping slides with another sig I had
Forgot the other sig slide was chambered.
Pull trigger
Shoot parents wall
Fourth time
At my new house
Playing with a friend's 5.56 AK
Release bolt
Slam fires round into ground
Fifth time
Showing a friend how to use it
No idea how but a round got chambered
Show him how the trigger works
Pull trigger
Shoots round into floor in the same place as before
Sixth time
Thought maybe the house was haunted
Grab a sig
Physically clear it, (racked the slide 3 times) with no magazine in pull trigger at the same hole
Round goes off
Seventh time
Friend brings over a used
Glock wants me to look over it
I grab it and pull the trigger without clearing it
Didn't even realize the thing was loaded.
Eighth time
Friend brings over his transferable Mac 10
I had no idea how open bolt guns worked.
He's showing it off to me I put a loaded mag it and decided to try and release the bolt (I thought it shot from a closed bolt)
Pulled the trigger for some reason
Shot 3 rounds into my wall
Overall you shouldn't feel too bad about NDs. It's part of owning guns, and you should get used to them.
A TANK IS A TANK!
Wait until you hear about mosin-nagants and Maksim machine guns (used on both sides)
On an unrelated note: the US during the Cold War have also produced absolutely mind-boggling amount of weapons that are now considered obsolete. Where are they? Scrapped, buried, nuke-blasted, sold to Pakistan, all of the above?
Tanks got bigger and stronger, weapons to destroy tanks got bigger and stronger, tanks then got bigger and stronger and smarter, weapons to destroy tanks got bigger and stronger and smarter.
Humans… still basically the same as we were in WW2. Weapons used in WW2 against humans are still valid.
I really appreciate how his home is like 50's light blue diner vibes and then in his garage he has a functional tank destroyer next to Mao's favorite ICBM.
Mosin is surely inferior (as a main rifle, in many ways), but maksim is actually a great design (HMG that can shoot infinitely as long as it has water and ammo - that is literaly the definition of its role)
Weapons are not mobile phones, there are not obsolete after 3 years
\>"forces to downgrade"
My guy, they are just throwing old units, just like the west. The only difference is that "old" western tech is still 40 years ahead of Russia's old tech. And Russia didn't stop fielding T72s and T90s.
Maybe they’re just trying to use up all their old shit so that they don’t have to keep maintaining and storing it. If you got a couple thousand tanks from the 50s then you would probably want to use them asap since they’re only getting older and more obsolete each day. And the squads they’re giving these shitty tanks to might not be the same squad that would have gotten a modern tank. Imagine you’re in the US military and they’re like “instead of a HMMWV would you want a Sherman?”
If your options are to throw it in the trash or use it I would think using it is the better option
Dont get me wrong, Russian army isnt in the best shape possible but using old tanks its not that stupid or desperate in a war of attrition.
The old obsolete tanks are operated more as mobile artillery, in that way they can have higher firepower and spare the modern stuff, so drones blow up rusty shit rather than the more expensive howitzers, which are used in a more cautios way only when they really need them
>so drones blow up rusty shit rather than the more expensive howitzers
This would be an excellent military tactic, if they weren't running out of soldiers.
Of course there are fighting age russians lmao.
I said soldiers. Trained soldiers, who can operate effectively as a tank crew.
They may or may not not be running out of tankies yet, but due to their outdated aviation hardware, they are running out of pilots.
Find it ironic to say that the Russian army is fucking shit only to then say that we should be ultra hyper scared cause they're planning on invading NATO countries and that we should prepare and spend so much money and bla bla bla.
Well they might be a horrible military. But there's still a lot of them, enough to be a serious threat to a smaller country. So I imagine the narrative of being scared of them is being pushed in order to get other countries to support the nato members under immediate threat, like Poland. That being said I kinda want to see the poles give the Russians the bloodiest of noses
Lmao cuz Putin thought it will be one (1) week operation, tops. It's almost what 2 years now? Besides it only shows that Russian arsenal isn't as impressive as Putin painted it to be.
Oh yes definitely. Everyone overestimated the Russian military, particularly from a first world military standpoint. But 3rd world militaries clearly still have cause for concern because of sheer numbers
It's just a collision of narratives. On one hand there's a need to paint the Russians as the incompetent guys that are losing the war to a smaller country while simultaneously pushing to increase the military spending of NATO countries. But people can notice this and realize that it doesn't make sense: "oh, I should be sure of Ukraine's victory over these outdated guys but at the same time extremeley scared cause the big bad guys are planning on marching on Amsterdam".
The way I see this is while Russia is a lot weaker than we ever thought them to be they still have an industrial Base which while won't produce modern weapons it can produce weapons nonetheless.
Same as Germany in ww2. If you look at the numbers they should've been crushed from the beginning yet they fought and won for years. Even after the industry was bombed to bits they were still producing tanks and planes. Even after oil was scarce their tanks and planes were moving.
While all of those things are limiting factors in their effectiveness they can still cause destruction. That's why Russia is a threat and a failure at the same time.
Tbh the only thing I'm scared of is nuclear weapons. There is a 0% chance that Russia is coming anywhere near my country in conventional warfare, but if Putin becomes desperate/insane enough to press the button it would be terrible, even though I don't live anywhere near where the nukes would land.
yeah this is why i dont buy the conscription scaremongering in the UK
You cant say Russia is losing, weak, ineffective etc while going 'Russia is gonna steamroll over Europe get ready to fight lads'
Was anyone ever seriously afraid of russia? Any fucking idiot that watched a Cold war doc would know that Russia has relied on smoke and mirrors for decades and that they haven't had to seriously show their military might and instead have just coasted on name only. It's sad to see smooth brains just say russia scary because russia. No, russia hasn't done anything outside of hiring expensive hackers and some low level espionage in recent years. Most of what they do is rely on former soviet union accomplishments and nothing else.
I mean war causes instability, death, suffering, etc. even if the one of the belligerents isn’t that great a military threat. Plus, Russia is a nuclear state, and so even if their military isn’t that great they can still start a nuclear war that ends in calamity the world wide over. I personally don’t think Russia would be stupid enough to invade a NATO country, but the stakes are high enough to merit concern.
Because the intention of the United States is not to help "fight" Russia. The actual intention is to totally delete the russian military complex and ensure that it stays that way indefinitly.
And after Russia is totally fucked and NATO countries have increased arms production by a metric fuck ton we'll see China think twice about Taiwan.
It's the New World Order... and it's nice.
We'd spend way more money if they did invade NATO countries even if we would crush them. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure - make the Russian government learn its place.
The shithole that is r/europe is whining at the moment for my country to join NATO after insulting us consistently in other threads. Then there's really obvious bots and glowies voicing support for this.
Hideo Kojima was right about the internet.
We should be scared. Their military might be in a bad state today but russian military industrial complex has been ramping up a lot in the past years and if they finally stop fighting in Ukraine and keep building equipment at the current rate they will have huge amounts of fairly modern equipment in a couple years. We should spend more money on more weapons not for the fight that could happen next month but the fight that could happen next decade.
Actually debunked, the tank on the right is a T-54 while the one on the left is a T-55, they just happen to have the same number on them but many other tanks do, it's just their batallion ID number. Still, using T-55s has to be humiliating for the so-called second best army in the world. Struggling to advance more than a kilometer per month against the poorest country in europe, losing your navy piece by piece to a country that has lost its last ships years ago, losing AWACS to missiles and almost getting coup'd by your own army...
Now Russia still has enough tank and manpower to drag this on for a few years while Ukraine is solely reliant on western help (not going very well rn with GOP treachery and EU incompetence), but damn. Everyone was expecting eastern european desert storm and instead we got the winter war 2.0 but even more humiliating.
Imagine if the US got bogged down 30 miles into Mexico, a carrier and half a dozen USN destroyers got sent to the bottom of the Gulf, so many Abrams got destroyed that the US brought the M48 back into service and they still can't get air superiority two years in
If Bob-the-anti-soviet takes a flight to fight Muscovites, it's the greatest compliment to say that Bob-the-anti-soviet constitutes international intervention all by himself. It's as if idiots like you have a pant-pissing-phobia of people willing to fight for freedom and defend others from genocide.
So that somehow makes it fair game? None of the 9/11 bombers were from Afghanistan. And Osama was found in ....America's ally on war on terror. Go figure.
Both sides have had volunteers fighting for them for years. There have even been american veterans fighting on russian side. Does that mean we should count the US as a russian ally? It's silly
According to Ukraine they did kill Iranian troops that were helping the Russians with drone launching against civilian targets [https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/nov/24/iranian-military-advisers-killed-aiding-moscow-in-crimea-kyiv](https://www.theguardian.com/world/2022/nov/24/iranian-military-advisers-killed-aiding-moscow-in-crimea-kyiv)
There are also rumors that Russia is using, or is planning to use, North Korean workers to rebuild the parts of Ukraine they've captured and levelled to the ground. And of course if anything is known about North Korea its that those guys aren't exactly volunteers [https://kyivindependent.com/national-resistance-center-russia-plans-to-bring-north-korean-workers-to-occupied-ukraine/](https://kyivindependent.com/national-resistance-center-russia-plans-to-bring-north-korean-workers-to-occupied-ukraine/)
There aren't western troops in Ukraine. And let's say you're right and there are 0 troops/workers/etc... from Iran/DPRK/... on Russia's side.
Why is Russia "fighting NATO" because NATO is giving weapons, but it's wrong to say that Ukraine is fighting Iran/North Korea when they're doing the exact same thing?
Getting giving old weapons that are on the verge of being scrapped isn't the same as tax payers paying lochead Martin to buy equipment off the line to Kiev, the "Russia is fighting the west shit is hilarious", because the proportion of aid Ukraine has recieved when compared to the actual amount of NATO equipment is hilarious, but yeah sure keep coping thinking fighting what amounts to a fraction of even just the USAs reserve of equipment is somehow on par with " fighting NATO" lol
Not all of them are old or outdated. You can refer to this Wiki page : https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_military_aid_to_Ukraine_during_the_Russo-Ukrainian_War
You will also get a list of countries that have directly or indirectly given military aid.
You will also get an idea of the huge amount of $ that are being spent .
I have no dog in this race. So I don't have to cope about anything. Just wanted to have a discussion but apparently name calling is the norm I suppose .

They get infinite ammo, kit, supplies, funds, and limitless intel from western intelligence agencies. Ukraine is playing with cheats on and fog of war lifted lol.
> be US
> travel across the world
> Occupy a country for 20 years
> Lose 50k people
> "Reeee US lost in Vietnam"
> Be Russia
> Travel to your own border
> Lose 400k troops in 2 years
> "jUsT LiKe tHe US"
It's easier to fight against gok fuks with no tech or intel, than it is to fight against an entrenched, dug in, prepared and equipped conventional military force with 21st century tech and tactics. All things considered, Russia is still in the fight holding out against all odds. I don't care about westoid propaganda. I look at it objectively, as I'm neither a russian Ivan nor a lard ass merrifat.
I need to know- which medieval glory days country do you live in lmao.
> Russia is still in the fight holding out against all odds
The mental gymnastics to paint Russia as the underdog is comical and disturbing in too many ways. The once "2nd army of the world" is being checked by a country that nearly demilitarized
Not really mental gymnastics, actually you're ripping into Ukraine by essentially comparing them to a wasteland backwater. It wasn't. It was a civilised, modern European nation with a powerful military. Now they're backed by literally all of the West in every way possible. So considering these odds, Russia is doing well.
I wonder how the US would fare against a modern nation with limitless support from many, many wealthy nations. I guess we will never know.
> was a civilised, modern European nation with a powerful military
It was one of the more impoverished European countries that had given up it's nukes and a significant portion of it's military. In 2020, it wasn't even in the top 40 countries in the world for military spending, AND it was one of the most corrupt. Chile and Romania spent more on defense than Ukraine.
> I wonder how the US would fare against a modern nation with limitless support from many, many wealthy nations.
Hilariously enough, you don't need to answer this question fully to know the implications. The US can fully eclipse the entire military budget (and capabilities) of the next 15 countries combined. The fact that it's even plausible for the US to do this says volumes. The fact that you THINK this is what Russia is currently doing says even more.
I'm not sure what underrepresented, backwater, can't keep up with modern tech country you are from, but I do know that you clearly don't understand an iota of what is going on. There is a reason most countries are an order of magnitude of spending or half a century of tech behind the US lmao. It's just shocking to see that Russia is included in that
All this budget didn't help the US in defeating a bunch of pajama desert camel riders. All that credibility went down the toilet. Money is apparently not everything lol.
Ukraine may have been poor and corrupt, but they knew an invasion was coming and prepared well for it. Out of all other military powers in the area, they were most ready for an engagement. Now, they have the backing of your rich US and various other governments. Russia is dealing with that singlehandedly.
If you think I'll be affected by a 4chinner autismo's insults and pseudo intellectual babble, you have a lot to learn haha!
> All this budget didn't help the US in defeating a bunch of pajama desert camel riders.
Ah, now we see where your mental capabilities end. You think money=winning war.
No you monkey. Countries spend money on their defense budgets to minimize casualties. That is how the US invaded multiple countries in the middle east and lost ~7000 troops over the course of 3 decades. If you want to talk about defeating modern armies, we steamrolled the largest standing army in the entire world in the middle east and we measure it in *hours*. That is what modern superpowers do with their budget, they save the lives of their own servicemembers.
Meanwhile you have Russia, who has 400,000 deaths in 2 years. This is an astronomical number. If we include all of their active AND reserve personnel, Russia has/had 3.3 million troops. The term "decimated" means to lose 1 in 10 men, or 10%. It is colloquially used to describe horrific losses. The Russians have far exceeded the term that we used to describe this. We might seriously have to invent a new word to explain how horrifically Russia is losing soldiers to a country that didn't even make the Wikipedia list of countries with a defense budget in 2020. The fact that the leftovers from other countries is considered a major stopgap for them is embarrassing on a scale that is incomprehensible for a country of it's size, age, and magnitude.
Lol but why am I taking on the word of an armchair general who plays dungeons and dragons for a living? As far as I'm concerned, you pull all of that from your lard ass. You accuse me of being wrong, I will simply do the same to you. It's clear we will never reach a mature understanding over the internet. I bet if we met in real life, you'd be understanding and as meek as a hamster XD
That's sort of the point - up until this point Russia was feared. Now everyone realizes they can be cleared out by a tiny part of the American military budget not even directly applied to them. They're completely irrelevant.
That's not how quotes work, first of all.
>That part "tiny part of american army.." yeah sure.
I said
> > cleared out by a tiny part of the American military budget
Which it is.
https://crsreports.congress.gov/product/pdf/IF/IF12040
Ukraine assistance by the U.S. is like almost nothing relatively speaking. We spend over $800 Billion a year - Ukraine has cost us under $100 Billion since 2014 lmfao.
> You still didnt clear them out even with that tiny budget.
You're having a super hard time following the discussion and you actually clearly don't understand how completely fucked up Russia has gotten on the world stage. They're a joke - good luck.
> So when are "we" expected to win?
To which I say again:
>> You're having a super hard time following the discussion and you actually clearly don't understand
We won the second we decided to get involved - Russia is so actually below the world powers that it wasn't even a discussion.
The exact second that America decides Russia doesn't get to have a military anymore is the exact second Russia doesn't have a military anymore. That's what Ukraine showed.
It's like getting ragged in a game - if you can't hit the layups you're gonna get fucking dunked on.
The war is not over. You american fucktard should leave drugs on a table and not consume them all the time. Your so fucking glorious super power can not even win a territory war and defeat that 5th tier army?
It is not us who are delusional.
> The war is not over.
No, not for irrelevant countries. But again: the US can decimate populations and economies and not even get involved. Do you think the US has any home soil risk? Fucking no lol. Do you think the US army is hurting from this war? Lol no. Now how is Russia? Now extrapolate.
> Your so fucking glorious super power can not even win a territory war and defeat that 5th tier army?
Again: we defeated them the second they caught our eye. At this point we're just starving them out because every single day this war goes on is much worse for Russia than it is for the US. The US is literally profiting and the shitty Slavic countries are starving lmfao. Welcome to the western war machine - you'll be here until you exhaust your value.
Feels bad when Cuba has better healthcare than world biggest army power. Hell, even China and Russia are better in those terms. Damn US soyboys, your only defense is your "best army" and number of unwinnable disputes on East.
The stupidest thing Ukraine ever did was giving Liaoning to China
How tf do you expect them to keep their word when they say they'll make it a casino
They're still kicking somehow
Around a dozen truly new tanks a month. They're sending a LOT of "new" tanks to the battlefield continuously, but it's from soviet stocks put back into service. And while soviet stocks are large, they are not infinite, but estimates are that they would have enough for \~2-3 more years (assuming they still want to keep around a 1000 tanks for their own defense and not literally go to the last tank against Ukraine). Truly new hulls are estimated at a dozen per month, but they're the more modern T-90Ms. Compare that to the \~2-4 dozens they're losing per week.
Foreign help consisting mostly of javelins, NLAWs and goddamn german helmets for the first few months of the invasion. And yet they had to abandon their offensive on Kyiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv and Mykolaiv. If they had been competent that would not have happenned, Russia outnumbered Ukraine in every bit of equipment, especially in the domain of air defense, air force and cruise missiles, and yet they got memed by fucking bayraktars for months before they finally learned to turn their radars on.
Besides at this point Russia is also getting help from Iran and North Korea soooo...
Would Ukraine hold without the west? Hell nah, not a chance. But their fault for thinking the west would just do shit all like in 2014 (and to be fair they still do the bare minimum)
Dude javelins and nlaws are awesome anti tank weapons I watched an iraq war veteran go in to great detail of how difficult the Iraq invasion of 2003 would have been if Iraq had those twonweapons and stingers in abundance
It takes Russia half a year each time they want to take one town... ok they get it in the end (Bakhmut, Avdiivka seems likely to fall within the next few days or weeks) but at this rate it'll take them years to get the territory they claim, let alone defeat Ukraine decisively. Both sides are stuck until either learns how to deal with drones properly.
The problem is that ukraine's industrial output is small. On the contrary, russia has a 10 times bigger economy, and they are being supported by both Iran and N. Korea militarily.
Moreover, China is very heavily subsidising the russian economy. While western aid to Ukraine are literally bread crumbs. On top of that, we don't know what the futur hold for further aids.
They have also used them as VBIED (vehicle borne improvised explosive device) which is kinda impressive but hasn't seemed to be very useful. Regardless it's still pretty bad they have to get such old shit back into service to fill the gaps, regardless if it's as artillery or as MBT.
I mean it depends, yes it is old and obselete, but still a hundred times better than sending in infantry.
They have literally thousands of these, and even if a big part is unusable, and as i said, obselete, they are perfect for digging in and defending chokepoints.
I think most people can't comprehend the absurdity of how hard russia's getting shit on, and putting it into the context of the US invading Mexico works great.
The US invading Mexico to decartelize them, getting pushed back from Mexico city, now we're in a stalemate, when guy fieri leading our PMC suddenly does a thunder run to Washington DC, turns around, goes back, then gets shot down by the president
Like what the fuck is happening
Then giving an interview controversial Mexican reporter about why the US is fighting the war. "Well let me give you a brief history. The Spanish, under the shadow of the Treaty of Tordesillas, strengthened their claims in the Americas, though their focus lay more to the south and west, in the rich lands that would yield gold and silver. Then in 1606, King James I of England granted a charter to the Virginia Company, paving the way for the establishment of Jamestown in 1607. Then in 1608..."
people have this notion that countries have like, 10 nukes
it's more like 5 thousand nukes, and if there wasn't any anti-proliferation policies during cold war, russia or USA could easily have 1 million nukes or more
Atomic weapons are not cutting edge tech anymore, it's a 60 years old tech, whoever can produce them could spit out dozens of nukes por month if the production lines were already running
For context the T-55 A and B were put into service in, wouldnt you guess it, 1955, for those that dont know tank naming conventions (i didnt I just googled it)
fun fact, generally the oldest equipment is used by the donbas separatists, which were integrated into the regular russian army at some point in 23, but still have a lot of the scrounged together equipment they used before that : and since they are used to using this ancient equipment, they get resupplied with it first.
If you go by Russian tank type losses, you can see a sharp spike of T-64 losses in early summer 2022, when the DPR forces were sent into the meatgrinder in Lysychansk/Severodonetsk. We really don't get a lot of news from the DPR/LPR since, I think it's safe to assume the remaining units have been understrength for the past year and a half. Look at that bulge in may/july: [https://x.com/verekerrichard1/status/1751615378998882706?s=20](https://x.com/verekerrichard1/status/1751615378998882706?s=20)
As far as I'm concerned I'm mostly putting my hopes into Rheinmetall. They seem to be very eager to up their production capacities and were among the first to do so after the war broke out. On top of that at least for now it seems like their deliveries are somewhat safe compared to some other countries in regards to the political landscape in Germany.
Im just gonna say that a shit tank is better than no tank when fighting infantry.
Also it's a t55 if it does there is like 70000 of them sitting in siberia collecting dust
Eh, from what i heard it's extremely easy to maintain, doesn't use too much fuel, which isn't a problem for russia yet.
Its very vulnerable to anti tank but it has better range on the gun then most apcs, hell ita optics are quite good
We have 200+ in reserve
And considering the soviet reserve managment i would be suprised if there was under 20000 tanks in various stages of reserve or disrepair. On the bright side for Ukraineans and russians t55 is very easy to maintain
I really appreciate how Russia after years of gloating is now nearly two years into it's occupation of Ukraine and is now about to implode. All for the small pricetag of 50 billion dollars.
(Vs 2.7 trillion annual govt budget)
Best part is we haven't sent a single man over there.
And now they want to make BRICS a thing? Lmao
Says the triggered pole that has been fucked in the ass by both west and the east. Don't understand how an old tank is funny. Maybe you're just butthurt
>pole that has been fucked in the ass by both west and the east.
I don't think you have much ground to stand on. Do I *reaaaaally* need to remind you of your cuntrys history?
I'm laughing because it's funny that the proud moskals with their manly glorious 2nd best in the world military, are using a tincan designed in late 1940s, you're crying that it's totally not funny guys, it's anti ruskie politic thing and not even a greentext guyz - who's the triggered one again?
You're laughing at that because you've been fucked in the head by politics, because you're dumb. Fortunately, there are subs and places for your kind, and this isn't one of them. Stop being butthurt and go cry on a politics forum designated for you
I would be laughing the same way if USA had to use barebone M47s and I laughed when Germans used broomsticks as machine guns during exercises. There's nothing inherently political at laughing at stupid shameful displays (like the one you're providing XD).
>Fortunately, there are subs and places for your kind, and this isn't one of them
Sorry bub's, people here seem to enjoy making fun of ruskie brainrot, maybe it's you who should go back to r/Serbia and pat other thirdworlders on the back?
You can laugh, but there are designated war/weapon forums for that. Just because people are imbeciles in here doesn't mean they have to keep it up.
You seem really triggered, call me a third worlder hahah. Ok bro I know you are just butthurt but you don't need to make it that apparent. Go to the polish sub and talk about russkies, you seem to like them so much. No need to get me in on your pan slavic orgie
I have a feeling that when there were greentexts here making fun of Germans, you weren't here saying "it's not funney guyys".
Also sorry, I just enjoy annoying serbs too much
>you should really stalk me a bit more
Hey I didn't, you have Kloshar in your nickname which is unique to the region as far as I know.
"can't get annoyed when I know I'm talking to a femboy" Ha, I wish, wrong genes for getting that femboy look unfortunately.
Because Russia is too poor to develop good reactive armor that works against shape charges, like those used in Javelin missiles, they out these little expanded steel cages over the top of the turret where it's weaker, in the hopes that the cage causes the javelin to detonate before the shape charge can penetrate.
Of course it doesn't work, because javelins actually have two shape charges, one to get through reactive armor, and one to get through the tank, so they blow tight through these like they're tissue paper.
Modern anti tank weapons use 2 explosive carges to destroy tanks. 1 charge is used to breach the armor and the other to explode inside the vehicle.
These cope cages try to prevent the incoming missiles from blowing the crew up. Whether they are effective or not its up to debate.
Someone wrote about it they do raise the survivability of a tank, but ofcourse it depends on a kind of weapon etc.
As for T55 we used them in our war to support infantry attacks as mobile artillery.
They are small, fast, easy to maintain and if you slap enough era on it can survive for some time.
We only retured them 10 or 15 years ago but they are still in reserve
Cage armor is used to provide a lightweight pseudoarmor buffer from munitions. The theory is that the round impacts the cage and detonates before it reaches and potentially penetrates the tanks armor.
Tanks tend to have thinner armor on top, and this cage was to prevent an explosive from landing right into the turret.
My friend once told me that the T-55 is CHEAPER AND EASIER TO MAKE than the Javelin anti-tank missle. So, in the war of attrition, in some situations, it might be a NET WIN to drive your t55s into the line of fire and just leave it there to be blasted
The t-54 was produced in the hundreds of thousands well into the 80s. A 50 year old tank is still terrifying without AT weapons to fight it. The russians have enough tanks in storage to scrap, retrofit, repair, strip to continue draining ukraine of people and equipment for the unforeseable future.
Fully agree with this post, i had numerous arguments with people going xdxdx about old equipment being used in this attritional war but it makes sense to use.
Tanks arent mainly used to engage other tanks, the world isnt War Thunder or WoT, they are used to destroy fortifications, destroy APCs/IFVs which are a way more common threat than another tank.
A T-55 is a shitcan tank for todays warfare with no upgrades, that is right. But if the 100mm shells it fires can still blow up houses, still blow up pillboxes and still can destroy lightly armoured vehicles it does have a use.
I would take a T-72m3/T-90M anyday over a T-55 but for Russia they are using things that if destroyed dont matter in the grand scheme of things.
Same goes for the cope cages, they are hilarious when you try to argue that they can outright stop Javelins but it can definitely stop atleast a few simple RPG-7 warheads which arent as advanced (and way more numerous), and it protects the crew from drone dropped munitions (which are mainly retrofitted RPG-7 warheads)
All in all, a tank is still a tank. It can be a shit tank for sure, but it can still very much be lethal and effective. Just dont expect it to win a battle against an Abrams or a modernized T-72m3 without some miracle
For this war the mighty have it, but what about the next one ? When Russia won't be able to refurbish their old tech anymore ? Russia has to win this war simply because they won't be able to wage an other one for the next 10 years at least.
Georgia is a mountainous country whose population despises russians. The initial invasion would cost massive losses and the occupation would have been afghanistan 2.
The resistance in ukraine is easier to deal with due to the terrain. Ukraine is mostly flat. Georgia on the other hand is naturally protected by its mountains. Mountains are the perfect terrain for fighting a guerilla war
They are 3 million people, there is a soldier for every person in georgia currently serving in the russian military. George will be flattened like an ant if they stand alone, thinking anything else is foolish. They need allies and they need them now.
For now... putin succeed to divide, convince Republicans to drop Ukraine, convinced trump it would be a good idea to leave nato. What happen is pro putin parties takes control of France or Italy or Germany ? What would happen if lepen become president and leave Europe? Or nato ? Putin isn't stupid, he is trying to divide to conquer.
He is cocky. Currently he has united Europe in a way nobody could imaging. The republicans have help him in the short run, but have shown that Europe cant depend on the US in the future.
Environmentally correct warfare, first use up the old stuff before making new ones. Re-use before re-cycle.
I wonder what the gas mileage is compared to newer tanks. The new ones are probably not much better in that regard.
I saw someone say that the markings on the side can't fully prove that it's the same tank because it's by regiment so there may be multiple tanks marked with 320.
To still be using the same variant of a tank from almost 70 years ago is WILD though
