I increasingly find refuge in this sub!

My hometown sub is the same way, most local ones are. This place was a breath of fresh air at first. But ultimately, r/GenX suffers from the same problems a lot of subs do even if it is better than most. There is definitely a party line that you have to toe, or you'll be heavily downvoted and attacked, often personally. I don't mean a political party line, just certain opinions that are not welcome here, which is unfortunate but inevitable on this platform. It's not obvious at first, but after you read enough comments and especially if you participate it becomes clear pretty quickly where the lines are. And it has its share of trolls. There are two I can think of that continually make new accounts and post the same kind of things, but I'm sure there are others I haven't noticed. Silly season is in full swing here in the US where I am, so there's no end of people sharing their well thought-out political opinions in civil and enlightened discourse. Just kidding, it's a shitshow. I loved it at first, but I'm a bit disillusioned now.
