Commuting to Reserve

I’m commuting to reserve for a month before I get my desired domicile. Currently doing 5 day blocks of short call and not getting called. I’m buying hotels night by night and having to leave and sit in the airport or coffee shops between the check-in and check-out periods. Wondering if anyone has experience doing this and can offer any advise to make it more manageable?

I don't understand why you have to leave between check out and check in time. When I'm stuck somewhere waiting for a plane to come out of MX and my company needs me to stay another night, I just go to the front desk and tell them I need to extend my stay by another day. I keep the same room with no reason to leave during the day. Housekeeping usually still tries to come in but I leave a note on the door that says I'm checking out the next day and they leave me alone.

The difference is your company is paying. He’s trying to avoid paying an extra day just in case he gets called for a trip at like 3pm.

Because I’m on call until 5 and paying for the room as it’s reserve in domicile. So if I add another night then leave, I lose -$100 on a night I didn’t use.

You got a company/base group chat or anything? Somebody would have to know which hotel around has the most commuter friendly policies about last minute cancellations if you get a trip. Sitting short call in a hotel room isn’t fun, but

I found a room for rent on Facebook when I did this for 2.5 months in phl. Also it doesn’t make sense that you’re leaving the hotel. If it comes time for check out then just extend another night. Many hotels that are close to airports are nice to reserve crew and can extend your check out time pretty late.

Does the airport you’re doing airport appreciation at have a Priority Pass lounge? I’ve had good luck listing a standby ticket to get in and then cancelling it.

Try and proffer/pick up trips before your reserve starts. Just reserve a room for the whole block, and eat the loss if you get called. Find a crash pad or long term rental for a month

Many hotels will let you check out early with either no extra cost or the cost of one night. Just reserve the full reserve block and leave when you need to. Double check the hotel policy of course though. If they deal with crew a lot or have a crew rate, they’ll probably let you do it.

Get a crash pad or even just try to find some AirBnB or other short term rental for a month if you don't wanna do the full crash pad thing. Or buy more than 1 night in a room and risk the loss so you aren't dealing with checking in and out and camping out in coffee shops and stuff. Seems like you're honestly doing it in the least manageable way possible.
