What does anyone think of Bluesky Social?

What kinds of communities does it have, how toxic are the users, or any other observations?
HeartyBeast@reddit
Seems fine in terns of the community (Neil Gaiman seems to be doing a lot of technical support :) ) , I think the underlying federation, identity and hosting model is really interesting - basically you can host on any instance and outsource moderation policies to any provider - hosting and moderating are largely decoupled.

Oh what?
Street_Review450@reddit
That's a great feature. No more power tripping mods who ban people just because they don't agree with the person's opinion like they do all over reddit.
OldandBlue@reddit
It's asking for my phone number. I gave up.
song4this@reddit
Yes, it wouldn't accept googlevoice so I did not continue. I can understand their perspective. I might try setting up my own server - they just announced federation...

Prefer Mastodon
waybackguy@reddit
May I ask why you prefer Mastodon over Bluesky? I'm on both too. Is it ActivityPub, UI, userbase or all of the above?
I really wish Mastodon had a way to search for more than 5 hashtags as once like Bluesky / Skyfeed. I also wish I could you could turn off all Boosts and Replies on the home feed when using the mobile app.

Activity Pub.

I set up an account for site updates and because it was a good excuse to get on there and have a look.
The site seems alright enough, largely artists and such from twitter posting their stuff there.
The UI is pretty snappy and looks nice, although i have had issues of it deciding to go back like 6-7 pages in my history when i press the home button sometimes, could just be a browser issue.
Its definitely less active than the fediverse at the moment, so if you want to follow some artists there incase they delete their twitter accounts or whatnot then maybe its worth it?

It's fine. I think it's the best twitter replacement after quitting twitter. But quitting twitter helped me realized how little I need a thing like twitter in my life anyway.
Riverrat423@reddit (OP)
I never did twitter, I was thinking of a future Reddit replacement. You have a point though, do I need a replacement?
Stiltzkinn@reddit
Many redditors do not need an alternative.
Riverrat423@reddit (OP)
We may in the nearby future.
Stiltzkinn@reddit
There already are like Lemmy or Tildes.
Riverrat423@reddit (OP)
The whole point of this subreddit is which sites are out there, what are they like, how do they work. Not just a quick easy answer.
Melenduwir@reddit
Then they're not likely to post on RedditAlternatives much, now are they?
baxil@reddit
+1 to this. It’s been great for keeping up with friends who migrated off the hellsite, but it’s got the same fundamental structure of short-attention-span theater.
Ok_Lingonberry3103@reddit
I like it, it's much less toxic than 2024 Twitter.
But it's more of a Twitter replacement than a Reddit replacement.
sl__7@reddit
what do you mean by toxic users?
Riverrat423@reddit (OP)
The type that will attack you instead of discussing your post. The “ you’re one of those people, screw you” types.

To each their own. But I always thought Twitter sucks. So by expansion...

Like Threads, boring.
