What does anyone think of Bluesky Social?

What kinds of communities does it have, how toxic are the users, or any other observations?
Cat-Equivalent@reddit
Imma try it, downloading today. Lol, the bots on your post say it's an echo chamber full of bots, ironically HAHA..
Cheap-Victory-7309@reddit
It’s a garbage app. It lacks diversity and seems to be an echo chamber of hate and anger towards Trump and his supporters. It’s like a small minority got together to cry, share thoughts of hatred and segregation of others based On ideologies alone. It’s kind of a joke that these people Have to create their own app to make themselves feel better. There is no discussions going on there. It is just I’m right now. I’m right pretty much in middle school. You could have multiple accounts and nobody is verified so you might think it’s a celebrity or someone like Neil Degrassi but it’s not. They have a lot of fake accounts to boost their numbers. Full of bots as well
Cat-Equivalent@reddit
Bot, account created 10 days ago. 🤣 Specifically when this post was created too.
Riverrat423@reddit (OP)
Is there anyplace where I can hear nothing about Trump? He won, it’s over i can only ignore him and hope he goes away. I guess I should avoid all social and news media.
DarkMayhem_X01@reddit
Unfortunately, no. People will continue to whine, cry, and throw a tantrum about it. The best you could do is just follow the pages and people you want to follow, don't engage with the political stuff, or just block those pages.
Lower_Classroom835@reddit
I believe it depends on your feed choices as I don't get any politics.
Most of my feed is science, and stargazing, I am avoiding politics like the plague.
I can't say I'm really active there, but I'm exploring to see if it's worth it.
I am not a big fan of quick bite information or social media in general and don't think I will be spending much time there.
Haunted_Ufo@reddit
I decided to check it out, some of my friends asked me. Jack Dorsey has already stepped down from the board, saying it's just like Twitter - making the same mistakes. So we'll see. I don't have high hopes for any social media anymore, tho.
Cheap-Victory-7309@reddit
It’s just an echo chamber of hate and anger by the people whose candidate didn’t win the election. It’s a safe space for them to share lies and hide behind coward profiles.
Cat-Equivalent@reddit
So what's X then 🤣
cactusmask@reddit
It's fine. I think it's the best twitter replacement after quitting twitter. But quitting twitter helped me realized how little I need a thing like twitter in my life anyway.
Riverrat423@reddit (OP)
I never did twitter, I was thinking of a future Reddit replacement. You have a point though, do I need a replacement?
Stiltzkinn@reddit
Many redditors do not need an alternative.
Riverrat423@reddit (OP)
We may in the nearby future.
parryfinkle@reddit
I used to really like Reddit but I find the moderators just ban you if you have a difference of opinion. It would be nice to have a place with open dialogue. Reddit isnt that
KoRnKloWn@reddit
I thought it was hilarious that I got permanently banned from the "Libertarian" subreddit, for saying an idea was "stupid" or something like that. Kind of ironic when you think about it 😂
Stiltzkinn@reddit
There already are like Lemmy or Tildes.
Riverrat423@reddit (OP)
The whole point of this subreddit is which sites are out there, what are they like, how do they work. Not just a quick easy answer.
Melenduwir@reddit
Then they're not likely to post on RedditAlternatives much, now are they?
baxil@reddit
+1 to this. It’s been great for keeping up with friends who migrated off the hellsite, but it’s got the same fundamental structure of short-attention-span theater.
4getgravity@reddit
They don't welcome diversity of thought in my opinion. Even though I agree with most on there I still appreciate diversity so I can challenge my own way of thinking and seek to understand the "other" side as much as I can. That is not what Blue Sky is. It's nothing but Trump haters so therefore I'm a little bored. It gets old after a while just reading what you already believe yourself.
OldandBlue@reddit
It's asking for my phone number. I gave up.
emmawow12@reddit
that what art station asked so I abandoned that and moved to blue skys
1EyeGodIsAi@reddit
An thats the right thing to do. Your comment just made me realize why my phone has been spammed with political calls this year. I signed up for truthsocial to see if it's just TV being repeated on the internet (it is). An i never went back. Now I get tons of republican spam calls. Somehow they got my email before (Alex Jones selling it?).
song4this@reddit
Yes, it wouldn't accept googlevoice so I did not continue. I can understand their perspective. I might try setting up my own server - they just announced federation...
jkahn923@reddit
You mean ‘Blue Bubble’?
Wise-Detective-1012@reddit
Its an Echo Chamber, probably even Fake Membernumbers, like Twitter before takeover. Media is doing alot of ads for it, alot of empty words like in the Election. Greetings from Switzerland 🇨🇭
Riverrat423@reddit (OP)
Thanks, never been on Twitter so I probably won’t bother.
StorageCrazy2539@reddit
It's an echo chamber for thought that don't want their beliefs challenged
Wopperlayouts@reddit
that’s 100% what it is
TeeFry2@reddit
I've been on the site for 3 days. At least half my new followers are bots/trolls/Trumplestiltskins. I put a clear notice on my profile that unsolicited DMs will result in a block -- so far, at least 2 people every day ignore that warning. It's like Twitter was in 2016, but we all saw what happened to that once the felon won the election. I doubt I'll stay -- it's not worth the growing toxicity.
Riverrat423@reddit (OP)
Thanks, sounds like it’s not worth the effort.
Meisterlirious@reddit
It just looks like a social app for democrats lol, it will die like all the other “competitors” soon enough. It’s also soo boring, it’s kinda like threads.
Riverrat423@reddit (OP)
Oh, no. It looks like social media is going political like tv news.
BeaverBonanza@reddit
I've yet to be invited in
OldandBlue@reddit
It no longer requires an invitation, but it asks for your phone number.
viptenchou@reddit
I just made an account and it didn't ask for my phone number.
Vexer77@reddit
Invites no longer needed.
HeartyBeast@reddit
Seems fine in terns of the community (Neil Gaiman seems to be doing a lot of technical support :) ) , I think the underlying federation, identity and hosting model is really interesting - basically you can host on any instance and outsource moderation policies to any provider - hosting and moderating are largely decoupled.
MIAD-898@reddit
This aged well.
HeartyBeast@reddit
Yes, well :)
88superguyYT@reddit
I'm ootl, what's going on?
HeartyBeast@reddit

OGLikeablefellow@reddit
Oh what?
Street_Review450@reddit
That's a great feature. No more power tripping mods who ban people just because they don't agree with the person's opinion like they do all over reddit.
Blarghnog@reddit
Meh. Doesn’t do much for me.
a_library_socialist@reddit
Prefer Mastodon
waybackguy@reddit
May I ask why you prefer Mastodon over Bluesky? I'm on both too. Is it ActivityPub, UI, userbase or all of the above?
I really wish Mastodon had a way to search for more than 5 hashtags as once like Bluesky / Skyfeed. I also wish I could you could turn off all Boosts and Replies on the home feed when using the mobile app.
a_library_socialist@reddit
Activity Pub.
SheepishPatio@reddit
I set up an account for site updates and because it was a good excuse to get on there and have a look.
The site seems alright enough, largely artists and such from twitter posting their stuff there.
The UI is pretty snappy and looks nice, although i have had issues of it deciding to go back like 6-7 pages in my history when i press the home button sometimes, could just be a browser issue.
Its definitely less active than the fediverse at the moment, so if you want to follow some artists there incase they delete their twitter accounts or whatnot then maybe its worth it?
Ok_Lingonberry3103@reddit
I like it, it's much less toxic than 2024 Twitter.
But it's more of a Twitter replacement than a Reddit replacement.
sl__7@reddit
what do you mean by toxic users?
Riverrat423@reddit (OP)
The type that will attack you instead of discussing your post. The “ you’re one of those people, screw you” types.
Stiltzkinn@reddit
Like reddit?
Riverrat423@reddit (OP)
Well, some of us.
TheConquistaa@reddit
To each their own. But I always thought Twitter sucks. So by expansion...
Stiltzkinn@reddit
Like Threads, boring.
