Lenox mall

Was at Lenox in ATL with my boyfriend today and a firearm sniffing dog approached us yelping. The police officer asked if we had anything on us but we didn’t. We are also 21 and don’t even have guns at home nor are around them. Anyone know what else could have triggered the dog?
Darksept@reddit
That's why I hate the Lenox Mall. I carry every day and the mall thinks it's safer if only their 8 cops are armed to protect the 600 patrons. I flat out refuse to go there now. Gun powder dogs are so annoying. If the ATL malls want to lose my as a customer then fine. I'll take my money elsewhere.

Lenox is where the riff raff hangs out. It's been that way for years. The only mall to get vandalized during the riots was Lenox.
TheGeorgiaDevil@reddit
Yeah Lenox is just full of absolute trash
soakedbook@reddit
It's reminiscent of Thunderdome on the weekends.
venolo@reddit
Phipps, too
buffalobill22-@reddit
You can’t have guns at malls wtf?
500SL@reddit
Yeah, they put in metal detectors at the main entrances a few years ago.
I just go in Nieman Marcus and into the mall from there.
MCM-Drip@reddit
literally just came here to figure out how to bring mine, thanks!
steelersman24752@reddit
We live outside Houston and we can't legally have them in our mall either. Business are allowed to ban firearms here.
jyl080208@reddit
That doesn't sound right. Businesses usually have the right to post "no firearms allowed", but it doesn't usually hold any legal weight. They can as you to leave and if you don't, you are trespassing. Is there an actual law for this?
MyFrogEatsPeople@reddit
That depends entirely on the state. And in Texas, the signs absolutely carry force of law.
https://www.walkertaylorlaw.com/texas-no-gun-sign-laws/
I strongly encourage everyone to check whether these signs carry force of law in your state. Better to find out before fucking around.
RottiBnT@reddit
It is state specific. In Georgia, they do not carry any legal weight. In Ohio and Texas they do. In Ohio you can lose your CCW for ignoring them.
Ornery_Secretary_850@reddit
You might want to brush up on Texas law. 30.05, 30.06, and 30.07 signs have the force of law....if they are correctly posted.
jyl080208@reddit
Well I'm from Washington, hence the confusion
joesyxpac@reddit
Sign is legally enforceable in Nebraska
generalraptor2002@reddit
See:
Texas penal code 30.06
steelersman24752@reddit
And 30.05, 30.07
steelersman24752@reddit
That's the law. Especially with constitutional carry here. If they ask you to leave, you leave. There are quite a few different statutes that cover where you can carry.
jyl080208@reddit
I'll have to look into that. Here in Washington a private business can say no guns allowed, but if you get caught and they ask you to leave, but you don't it's trespassing
steelersman24752@reddit
Same in Texas
StorkyMcGee@reddit
That's pretty much universal. Some states have made it automatically trespassing.
jyl080208@reddit
OK, so that's where I'm confused. Businesses putting a "no guns allowed" sign hold no legal weight here in Washington, but they do in Texas?
Dave_A_Computer@reddit
Some states have laws on the book that give more weight to private GFZ signs.
Ohio for instance it's a misdemeanor offense to knowingly carry into a posted GFZ.
steelersman24752@reddit
Basically it's a warning letting you know that if you proceed you could be asked to leave and/or charged with trespassing.
Maximum_Confusion504@reddit
Same in OH
SohndesRheins@reddit
I believe in Texas it does hold legal weight. Here in WI if a business posts that sign and someone ignores it, best the business can do is ask you to leave and you are trespassing if you refuse, but that's as far as it can go amd it's not easy for a layperson to easily figure out who is CCing and who isn't. I think in Texas it's a separate law that you are breaking if you violate a 30.06 sign or whatever they are called.
CoolaidMike84@reddit
Yes, we can. Probably not a firearm dog but a drug dog or one trained to smell GSR.
N3phewJemima@reddit
Not at Lennox you can't. Too many robberies and shit there over the years lately. Having said that. I carry there when I go.
theanswriz42@reddit
There's lots of shootings at that mall, so Simon has hired a bunch of police with gun sniffing dogs to try and stop the violence. Needless to say, it hasn't helped that much.
Beachbourbon60@reddit
And if they stop you what authority do they have if you are legally carrying?
RefrigeratorGold8291@reddit
You're still ik their private property, they will ask you to leave and if you don't then you're trespassing.
oswaldcopperpot@reddit
That mall in particular is one where its 100% necessary to carry.
Thatsaclevername@reddit
They don't sniff for a gun, they sniff for powder. It's possible to get some on ya in a variety of ways.
Sometimes the dog gets a false hit, maybe off like snack residue or something.
mcbergstedt@reddit
My dad’s buddy was bringing in about suitcase full of German sausages (for Christmas presents) at the airport after a trip there. The bomb dog signaled at his suitcase
WolfieAK@reddit
Well, German sausage is the bomb
Crohn85@reddit
Snack residue. Bazooka gum. Atomic Fireball.
BWGriffin15@reddit
So carry a atomic fireball on me, good to know 😏
Trading_Things@reddit
Police dogs are notoriously unreliable and cops even signal them to trigger to violate 4th amendment rights. Them barking means about as much as some terrier barking.
N3phewJemima@reddit
Funny enough I walked into Lenox and walked right past the dog in the center of the mall by the escalators/Gucci row and he didn't flag me. I was carrying too.
Legumerodent@reddit
Probably smelled something like it on y'all, also Lenox is terrible. be safe there
ohioversuseveryone@reddit
Whyyyyyyy in the fuck would you ever go to Lenox? Are you trying to get shot/robbed/raped?
One-Challenge4183@reddit
Coulda been the meth in your boyfriend’s sock 🤷🏻♂️
TommyTuTone420@reddit
Just walk away and say nothing
Ohbuck1965@reddit
I've seen them at the mall. The funny part is I was walking out of a sporting goods store with a new pistol, and I was carrying. I thought I was going to walk around, but Mr police dog was staring at me, and I decided I wouldn't be window shopping. The sign at the entrance to the mall said No Guns past this point.
CoolaidMike84@reddit
The sign is not law, not here in Ga. If you are found with one, they will ask you to leave.
Beachbourbon60@reddit
“Ask”
gavin_newsom_sucks@reddit
That THC vape pen in your pocket gave you away
3900Ent@reddit
Your first mistake was going to Lenox mall. That shit is a cesspool of bullshit. Hated going there when I lived in Atlanta
emperor000@reddit
It's a dog. Handled by a human. It's completely fallible.
At best it was from somebody that walked right before you and actually had a gun or had handled one.
But it also could have just smelled one of the odors it was trained on on or around you guys. The dog doesn't know exactly what it is doing. It just knows the ape gives nummies and "good boys" when it smells the right things.
The right combo. of the same smells of a gun could get detected.
oh_three_dum_dum@reddit
Man, I haven’t been to Lenox in a minute.
There could be multiple answers or a combination. The dog could need better training to discern smells, maybe it just didn’t like you, or maybe you smelled like one of the chemical components he’s trained to detect (going back to a training problem).
Or maybe you or he had a gun and someone just doesn’t want to tell the truth.
HomeRunBetty@reddit
What race are you?
What was the race of the security?
Batttler@reddit
the officer could have profiled y'all and triggered the dog
IllAssistance7@reddit
He didn’t like your top.
If you have dogs sniffing you at malls, you need to get out. It’s more green on the other side.
