I’m honestly surprised that there isn’t many things about the killdozer on here

On Friday, June 4, 2004, Marvin Heemeyer used the bulldozer to demolish the Granby town hall, the house of a former mayor, and several other buildings. He killed himself after the bulldozer became stuck in a hardware store he was destroying. No one else was injured or killed, in part due to timely evacuation orders.
Ok-Bit4971@reddit
I'm surprised there isn't a Killdozer subreddit. Such a fascinating story.
skripis@reddit
Whistlin Diesel has just bought an identical Komatsu dozer, so expect interest to peak once he begins creating content with it. (He just posted a vid where they picked it up. You won't win a prize for guessing that he's going to make a killdozer.)
OutlandishnessOk5238@reddit
This aged well.
TiresOnFire@reddit
He brought it to the town and interviewed a few people.
HaiKarate@reddit
Kind of surprises me that no one on The Walking Dead ever thought to build something like this.
Great_White_Sharky@reddit
Would need a fuckton of fuel which isnt easy to get in the post apocalypse. Its already unrealistic how much they drive around with their cars later in the show since the fuel would have gone bad after the several years since the begin of the apocalypse
The_Reapers_Judge@reddit
You can use used cooking oil to run a diesel.
HaiKarate@reddit
Construction equipment typically uses diesel. Biodiesel wouldn't be too hard to produce.
realNeilG@reddit
Nothing shitty about it, mate. Worked perfectly as intended.
sailor776@reddit
My man missed every shot he took except the one from point blank. Pretty shitty record
Remarkable-Ad-5192@reddit
Iirc he left a message about not wanting to kill people, just utterly destroy the properties of thise that he thought wronged him...... could all be crap.... what do i know
sailor776@reddit
100% crap. He shot a 50 cal at cops and at a propane tank trying to make it explode. He also ran through a kids library. It's more luck than anything that he didn't kill anyone other than himself. There's actually a really good documentary about the event. The first half is his perspective and the 2nd is the town and really shows that the dude was pretty much just a domestic terrorist that got pissed off because the country made him honor a contract he signed.
Remarkable-Ad-5192@reddit
Tbf the Library was also attached to the town hall..... sooo yes, he did demolish it as well, but from his list of issues with the local government. I think it's obvious which was his main target.
I did find a report that states he "Charged a firing position," which is pretty funny.
sailor776@reddit
It doesn't really matter what his main target was if he still ran though a place that VERY easily could have had small children in and would have been there if it wasn't for heads up thinking by a few individuals.
A case of "cool story still attempted murder of children."
The_Reapers_Judge@reddit
Lmao yeah totally could have caught the kids off guard while driving 3 miles an hour I'm sure those "heads up thinkers" are some really genius people to evacuate a building when they see a bull dozer driving 3 mph down the road a mile out.
Remarkable-Ad-5192@reddit
Lol, "Ran" in a bulldozer.... reminds me of the scene from Austin Powers with the security guard and the pavement roller. ... about the same speed too
Lftwff@reddit
Also people will bring up that he didn't kill anyone in his defense but that wasn't for a lack of trying, he just really sucked at it.
cocaineandwaffles1@reddit
I’m really glad I’m not the only one who knows this.
It’s also funny too to point out how he wasn’t native to that town. Many people are growing more and more tired of out of towners coming in and fucking up their communities. But these same people will still say he did nothing wrong, ignoring that he was an asshole who was mad he didn’t get his way and attempted to blow up the entire town.
It’s like people who praise the IRA, but get a shocked pikachu face when you bring up that they had socialist beliefs and believed in strong workers unions. Innocent bystanders being killed is one thing, but they’re praised freedom fighters sticking it to the government being socialist? Can’t have that.
The_Reapers_Judge@reddit
The IRA attacked the British so yeah glory to the IRA and death to the king.
VariedRepeats@reddit
You know that this town was probably full of Republicans and pro-business fat cats? Victim concrete had .50 caliber bullets...
LoopyMercutio@reddit
To be fair, it’s not easy to run folks over, or even cars that can move, with a large tracked vehicle. Even smaller, more nimble tracked vehicles with unobstructed views from the driver’s hatch don’t exactly turn on a dime, and generally don’t move or respond fast enough to get a moving target that can change directions decently quickly.
Source- spent a decade driving several different tracked vehicles in the Army, and soldiers being the dumbasses we are, we did try.
chris782@reddit
Idk why but I got the picture of some young kid desperately trying to get a kill and insurgents freaking out that this tank keeps coming right at them
Lftwff@reddit
I was more talking about how he fucked up installing the gun ports and thus didn't hit any of the number of people he shot at. Or the propane storage.
Jackbwoi@reddit
He had a 1:1 kd ratio. That's better than me at any shooter that isn't vs kids on Roblox/Fortnite.
tomwhoiscontrary@reddit
It didn't do a lot of killing, but it did a lot of dozing, so i give it a 60% success rating.
tullyinturtleterror@reddit
His kdr was 1:1. Can you say the same?
Lord-Vortexian@reddit
Thats not the vehicles fault, sounds like a skill issue
HillInTheDistance@reddit
I mean, it kinda was the veichle, but since he built the veichle, so the skill issue goes all the way down.
ChornWork2@reddit
not really, the crazy fucker wasn't able to kill anyone thankfuly.
Responsible-Pipe-951@reddit
Yeah he built it to destroy enemy business. He def did that. But he had no esacape hatch took em hours i think to get it open.
Lord_Tachanka@reddit
It had a hatch in the bottom.
FloofJet@reddit
Did it? I remember the story being told with him sealing himself in the Killdozer. He knew it was a one way trip.
Lord_Tachanka@reddit
The story is wrong. For a lot of reasons. Good video + more context: https://youtu.be/Yvl_7_Up7zU?si=OZjvXk3lUhyRz_wr
The hatch was on the top, there’s no way he could have lifted that much concrete and steel in his garage.
Snowsteak@reddit
Your previous comment said hatch was in the bottom, this comment states the hatch was on the top. So, which was it? Or are you claiming there were two hatches? In which case why would they, the police, need to cut open the Killdozer?
CliftonForce@reddit
Possibly because the hatches were not obvious from the outside? And one could be worried about booby traps on something built by a homicidal nutcase.
Snowsteak@reddit
Reasonable. However, my point is: dude is clearly bullshitting. “Hatch is on bottom. Hatch is on top. Hatch too heavy.”
Lord_Tachanka@reddit
I’m not bullshitting lol I just forgot that it was on the top not the bottom.
Lord_Tachanka@reddit
There was one on the top, I was wrong in my initial statement as it was off the top of my head
Seahawk_2023@reddit

Thelifeofnerfingwolf@reddit
How tf are you supposed to use the scope on the rifle in the second picture.
SnazzyBelrand@reddit
It wasn't well designed that's how. It's creator was batshit
slipskull2003@reddit
Lol... It had bulletproof cameras that hosed and wiped themselves down and had a live feed to monitors inside. Everything about it was pretty exceptionally designed, especially for a one man job
Hidesuru@reddit
Yeah from what I've read it was fairly well engineered. His primary objective was to destroy buildings which went pretty well all things considered until he got stuck.
derpotologist@reddit
Yea not bad for a first attempt
PhoebeMarie79@reddit
Goals are good I guess
gender_nihilism@reddit
it was over-engineered, if anything
Smotherytable@reddit
he didnt really want to shoot people, my guess is he just threw it in and didnt think about it enough to remove the scope
ChornWork2@reddit
so why did he shoot at people?
Smotherytable@reddit
there's a whole documentary on what he done. Essentially, his town and some questionable people ruined his lifes work and kept screwing him over whenever he tried to follow their rules and keep his muffler shop. he lost nearly everything, and this was his revenge against the people who kept pushing him down
ChornWork2@reddit
The guy was fucking lunatic that was an utter thorn in the side of anyone sensible long before he completely cracked and literally attacked an entire town believing he was on a mission from god.
vulture_cabaret@reddit
Yup. A lot of people want to support this guy but he was a fucking loon. The episode about him on Swindled was well done and gets into Heemeyers personal history on the town.
PhoebeMarie79@reddit
Go on YT and they all support him. WTF
ChornWork2@reddit
Fits the anti-establishment narrative. But so do a lot of raving lunatics.
vulture_cabaret@reddit
For sure. Christopher Dorner was somewhat similar. Guy was screwed over but he brought some of that on himself with how he acted and rubbed people the wrong way. It's my personal feeling that had he not gone on his cop killing rampage we would have lived to see him become a Bernie Bro and go full Trumpanzie.
Smotherytable@reddit
i seen it like when it came out so currently having a hard time remembering some of it, but in all honesty it wouldn't surprise me
PhoebeMarie79@reddit
This is called life. And it sucks. What he did doesnt make you an icon...it makes a pussy.
vulture_cabaret@reddit
Yeah that's painting him in a very kind light. He was a rabble rouser that tried to bar lawyer his way out of paying taxes and EPA violations. If you listen to his audio diaries he thought God was telling him to build the kill dozer and do what he planned to do. The episode on Swindled is a good listen. I want to like this guy he was an indignant self righteous asshole that annoyed everyone around him. He deserves to be remembered as such.
PhoebeMarie79@reddit
Well said.
Smotherytable@reddit
oh shit really?
imnotmrrobot@reddit
Is it really surprising? He destroyed a town over a muffler shop.
Smotherytable@reddit
it was his lifes work and savings, he couldn't sell the place for anything so all his time and money he put into it was wasted and that's what he had left a shop that couldn't even be accessed by road he didnt destroy the whole town, but yes he did fuck up a lot of stuff
Sergetove@reddit
The city literally offered to hook him up to the water system free of charge and make him a new road when the concrete plant went in. I'm forgetting some details, but he basically refused their every offer out of spite. There are plenty of cases of small time bureaucratic tyrants, but this isn't one.
imnotmrrobot@reddit
I saw this once before, but it’s even worse than I remembered.
Smotherytable@reddit
im not sure if the documentary went over that, interesting to know sounds more and more like an asshole ngl
Sergetove@reddit
The documentary sucks. The video I posted has a more accurate account.
Smotherytable@reddit
i will watch, thanks!
imnotmrrobot@reddit
Yeah, I understand that, but even so to react in that manner is pretty sociopathic. It’s not exactly shocking that he was a belligerent dick that only made his own situation worse at every opportunity. I think someone can be a victim in a lot of ways, but still be a pile of shit themselves. In fact, it’s all a feedback loop. Think Chris Chan or something like that.
Aruvanta@reddit
Except none of that was true. All the evidence we have of him being a rule follower who got destroyed by other people come from his diaries, and if you read a bit more it's clear he's an angry, bitter man just looking for trouble.
EasyRhino75@reddit
He wanted to use the guns to blow up gas tanks if I recall
fransoler02@reddit
And he did
MurkingDolphins@reddit
Naw, missed
CosmicP0tat0s@reddit
he had low agility.
VariedRepeats@reddit
He was Air Force. The branch that isn't good at shooting people.
Plus I think that place was "gun country". The concrete enemy of his had .50 caliber bullets, so these guys were all loaded and he knew he needed protection.
Duloth@reddit
He did want to shoot people; the cops he tried to hit, and he had a specific hit list of targets of opportunity, both for people and for buildings, including the catholic church and anyone of significant rank therein.
SnazzyBelrand@reddit
There's a lot of evidence to suggest that isn't the case. The only reason he didn't shoot anyone is dumb luck
derpotologist@reddit
Evidence?
SnazzyBelrand@reddit
You mean besides him taking potshots and multiple people?
derpotologist@reddit
Seems like you're right
Sorry wasn't meaning to be a dick or contrarian was just on my phone on the go and what I read/watched years ago made him seem like not such a domestic terrorist
Seahawk_2023@reddit
Weird thing is that if he really wanted to kill people then he could have shot some cops dead.
Probably he didn't wanted to shoot people but didn't care of the deaths caused by a fuel tank explosion i.e. by his logic they would be 'collateral damage'.
CliftonForce@reddit
Possibly he was leaving himself an option to pull the rifle out of the gunpoint, open a hatch, and take a long range shot.
We will never know.
Fern-Brooks@reddit
There wasn't a hatch to open. He sealed himself inside of the killdozer
canthinkofnamestouse@reddit

SegaSaiyan88@reddit

glytxh@reddit
It’s a sad and complicated story that’s always reduced to this vehicle.
Killdozer does the rounds every few years. It seems to be enjoying a recent bout of popularity for some reason again.
Mr_WAAAGH@reddit
It's because WhistlinDiesel bought an identical bulldozer and is going to build a replica from it
glytxh@reddit
That’s trashy as all fuck. What a shitbag
Vermillion490@reddit
Unless he plans on destroying buildings with it like the original, it's not exactly illegal. People build airplanes, cars, hell replicas of military tanks. Whistling Diesel is kind of a redneck YouTuber known for other builds like a Challenger on Old school wagon wheels, or a monster truck with 2 Duramax Diesels.
At the end of the day rednecks build shit because they think it's cool.
Mr_WAAAGH@reddit
I'm not a big fan of the guy. He's kind of a prick and has a habit of destroying rare and expensive cars. Like he destroyed two or three Ford Model As for a video, and in another one burned a Ferrari to the ground
glytxh@reddit
I’m not entirely certain, but isn’t this rig particularly rare? If I remember, there are maybe a handful of them in the world.
That’s ignoring the ethics behind it all too.
_-_d@reddit (OP)
Is isn’t making an identical one he’s just buying the dozer
Mr_WAAAGH@reddit
_-_d@reddit (OP)
First of all we never know if the townspeople of granby are ok with it, we should wait until they say it’s ok or if they don’t like it. We shouldn’t argue until citizens of granby say something
Mr_WAAAGH@reddit
What are you talking about? First, he already went through Granby and talked to people who were there. Second, he's stated himself that they're rebuilding the killdozer
_-_d@reddit (OP)
When, can you give me the video where he said that
Mr_WAAAGH@reddit
The photo I posted above has the quote from cody saying that's what they're gonna do. This is the video of them interviewing Granby residents https://youtu.be/dgX7N2-dC9A?si=P5clsg4uiyd_R7Om
_-_d@reddit (OP)
They never said that they were going to make the killdozer identically, and even if they did the killdozer wasn’t made with getting out as an intention “I don’t plan on coming out alive” Marvin Heemeyer said on his manifesto, so making that is a literal death trap
Mr_WAAAGH@reddit
Sir are you capable of reading? The quote from cody literally says "we're going to build the exact same one"
_-_d@reddit (OP)
Yes but that could be easily fake it’s a small news station it is not a credible source
Mr_WAAAGH@reddit
It's from Sky-Hi news, a company from Granby that was a target of the original Killdozer
_-_d@reddit (OP)
Yes and that’s why it’s not a credible source because it’s biased against Marvin a credible source is from a source that has no basis on either side of the argument
Mr_WAAAGH@reddit
That was part of the reason they were targeted is because Marvin felt like they were slandering him. But there's absolutely no reason for them to lie and say Cody is building a replica killdozer if he wasnt
_-_d@reddit (OP)
Even if there is no reason you never know, people always lie
SnazzyBelrand@reddit
We all know about that petulant manchild 🙄
Yummy_Crayons91@reddit
Yeah I'm not sure why now this guy is starting to get so much attention. Man child takes revenge because he was too lazy or dumb to fix a minor problem in his past. He ended up not hurting anyone mostly due to skill issues rather than a pure heart.
The San Diego tank guy or Sky King (RIP) are far more relatable for people going out with a bang.
SnazzyBelrand@reddit
It's not even that he was too lazy. He signed a contract when he bought the property agreeing to pay for a sewer line. It was a stipulation for purchasing the land. Then instead he used a cement truck cylinder as a makeshift septic tank, even though it leaked raw sewage onto the property and was a health risk. People in town offered to pay for it for him, but no apparently modern plumbing is government tyranny 🙄
SomeAverageJoey@reddit
He didn't install the makeshift septic tank, it was installed by previous owners. The city also wanted $80,000 to install a proper sewer system, after he paid $50,000 for the property and another $20,000 to clean up oil pollution, also from the previous owners. As for the people in town "offer[ing] to pay for it", they had a history of trying to/succeeding in screwing him over. Plus the town council was rezoning the area to screw him over.
The guy was definitely unreasonable about a lot of things (agreeing to sell the disputed property for $250,000 before increasing the price to $450,000 arbitrarily comes to mind), but everyone involved was being petty.
SnazzyBelrand@reddit
If he didn't want a sewer system he shouldn't have signed a contract agreeing to pay for that. He's a free agent, no one made him sign that. Instead he decided to be a piss baby
SomeAverageJoey@reddit
Because they didn't tell him it was going to cost $80,000 until after he bought the property? I also don't think there was any contractual obligation to update the sewer system on the property when he bought it. As far as I can find, a previous owner installed the inadequate septic system before he bought the property (a relative of the guy he was arguing with over the property as far as I can tell). Then when he found out the system was subpar, he looked into connecting to the city sewer, where they told him it was going to cost $80,000. Obviously, he declined, but because he filled out the application to get connected to the city sewer they started fining him $100 a day for having improper sewage. Which is just wild because even if he installed a proper septic tank he still would have faced daily fines. Obviously pumping raw sewage from an overflowing tank into a ditch on your property is just insane, but he did look into doing it properly and got screwed. Like I said, everyone involved was being petty.
SnazzyBelrand@reddit
I'm sorry you think having sewage is tyranny. I like living in a 1st world country tho. You're welcome to keep hero worshiping this piss baby, but once again no one made him sign the contract
SomeAverageJoey@reddit
"I'm sorry you think having sewage is tyranny" I never said that, I'm pretty sure no one else is saying that except you.
"You're welcome to keep hero worshiping this piss baby" I'm not.
"no one made him sign the contract" The only mention I am seeing of any contract over a sewage system is from YOU, and as far as I can tell it is a complete fabrication.
SnazzyBelrand@reddit
When you buy property you sign an agreement with certain stipulations. One of the stipulations was that he pay for the sewer service to be installed. But apparently that infringed on this man child's freedom so instead of doing the adult thing and getting a sewer line he went on a rampage and killed himself. Because he was a piss baby
SomeAverageJoey@reddit
Source?

It's so obvious that he's a unreliable narrator too.

Elk76@reddit
He's always been somewhat popular in Colorado. Hell, in Grandby half the shops sell some sort of killdozer memorabilia.
Stoned_Nerd@reddit
🤷🏻♂️ Capitalism gonna capitalize
rexlibris@reddit
Fuck you.
He did what had to be done after the entire town council was driving him to bankruptcy through shady back room deals and corruption.
SnazzyBelrand@reddit
Part of the contract he signed when he bought the land stipulated that he'd pay for a sewer line for the property. Then he tried to weasel out of it and used a cement truck cylinder as a makeshift septic tank despite it leaking raw sewage everywhere. Is a working sewage system "back room deals" and tyranny to you lmao?
pileofcrustycumsocs@reddit
He was even offered a way out of that if he would just install an actual septic tank but he still refused
Great_White_Sharky@reddit
When your shit is leaking all over the neighborhood from your improvised septic tank and instead of fixing the problem (to which you agreed in a contract) you rather die doing as much damage in the process as possible.
In what universe is that reasonable?
sponge_welder@reddit
You know you're taking the word of a crazy guy over all the other people in the town, right?
screwcirclejerks@reddit
being a millionaire and being offered over a million for his property is not being bankrupt. he was too stingy to pay for the cost of being hooked up to the sewers or getting a proper septic tank, and obviously had some mental illnesses not in check.
Voxlunch@reddit
lol no he was a complete dick that everyone bent over backwards for and he just kept trying to scam for more. The noble warrior thing is a complete fabrication. https://youtu.be/Yvl_7_Up7zU?si=TGoYIaGsOLID4oM3

I saw a little documentary where they mentioned calling in a gunship yeah.
1_87th_Sane_Modler@reddit
They wanted to use an Apache or cobra but federal troops can't be deployed for this reason on domestic soil. the nat guard was worried about collateral damage from using a help gunship/an A-10. Using a Man portable AT weapon, Bradley IFV or even an Abrams firing HEAT would have been the only other options.
TankGrlX@reddit
There are tons of options. A squad of 6 guardsmen with tank mines is fast & cheap. Any bomb tech or EOD Guardsman could build a very cheap and effective IED that would stop it. I could go on and on but I assure you that an A-10, Bradley,, Tank, etc would not be used simply due to optics
