I want to put an aftermarket steering wheel on my ride, but no air bag has me hesitating. Thought?

Long story short what happens if you get in a crash? Is that what the race seats are for?
There’s so many aftermarket steering wheels that just look fantastic. But they don’t have an airbag, I wanna go fast and what not. But I also wanna be safe.
Those who’ve installed one how’s your experience, ever been in a crash with one?

Really depends, if your car is 30 years old and still has the original airbag who knows if that'll still work reliably, but do it on your own risk, if you're gonna have a race harness then you have nothing to worry about, but there are some nice factory airbag steering wheels, like the Porsche 996 tri spoke steering wheel for example

If I buy a car the doesn't have airbags (i.e: R32 Skyline) could I theoretically switch in a steering wheel with airbags from an newer model of the same car (i.e: R33/R34 Skyline)?

You could but it would only be for aesthetics, you dont have any of the crash sensors for the airbag to actually deploy in case of impact. And you really can't add those sensors because they're specific to their vehicle in terms of precise placement and how much force they need to activate

I wouldn't do it unless it doesn't have an airbag to begin with. Roll cages are not safe without a helmet. Harnesses are not safe without a hans device.

Hey, I'm curious why harnesses aren't safe without a HANS as opposed to a seatbelt? I was considering putting a harness in, but if a seatbelt is safe without a HANS then....

Harness doesn't have any give to it, so in a crash your body will decelerate almost instantly but without a hans your head/neck can snap forward. Essentially the body stops but the head keeps moving and damages the neck. Imo best option is install a harness for track use but keep oem belts for street use.

Ahhh makes a lot of sense. Alright well there's 2 ideas scrapped lol
