International phone call apps

Hey im currently living in Poland and am using Play as my phone carrier. I need to make an international call to the United States to my credit card company. However play doesn’t allow the call to go through even the to the international number listed for the credit card company. Does anyone know of any apps that I can use to make a a call. Not what’s app or Viber. A friend told me about corporate phone but it didn’t work for me. If anyone knows of anything that would be great :).

I use skype. If it's an 800 US number, it's free to call (and most calls are very cheap as well). Your contact does not need to have it installed, either, unlike most apps.
Altruistic_Net7303@reddit
does it still work? do it have to be installed in their app or not needed?
LouisePoet@reddit
I'm not sure if you already have it or not, but mine (from 15 years ago) still works.
Altruistic_Net7303@reddit
is skype available in the app store? or in pc?
LouisePoet@reddit
I'm not sure? You'd have to check.
But yes, I have it on my laptop (and used to on my phone, as well).

Skype has closed their credit-based calling, but you can use Yadaphone to call a mobile or a landline from abroad quite cheaply and without having to buy a phone number

When using a cell phone, I have to open a browser to use it? Or is there an app coming? Going to try this tomorrow. Very grateful to see this as an option for the calling function of Skype. I think there'll be a lot of expats that will like this.

Thank you! The app is gonna be coming soon, but now it’s browser only. The mobile browser version rocks tho, almost native experience

I've been trying your website this evening and it's crashed on me twice (I have some pictures) and cut off on me a couple of times whilst I've been on hold. This is all all on an android phone, as there is no audio routing option on the website on PC.
Is there a certain browser I should be using? I've tried Firefox (Crashes) and Chrome (Hung up whilst on hold)
I've spent a dollar so far and got nowhere.
Any help is appreciated

Responded to you in support, we’ll figure this out :)
Altruistic_Net7303@reddit
hi what browser/website is it?

I used https://fonable.io while traveling and so far it was the cheapest and most reliable

I've had success with DialHard for international calls, it's browser-based and connects to regular phone numbers, might be worth a try for your call to the US credit card company.

you might want to try getting a virtual us number instead of just using calling apps. services like google voice or similar let you have an actual number that shows up properly on caller id, which banks care about. they often reject or block calls from obvious voip apps because the caller id looks weird.
if you can't get google voice to work from poland, there's other options like ringcentral or openphone that do the same thing. usually pretty cheap if you just need it for occasional calls.

Play blocking international calls is frustrating but common. Some carriers just don't allow it without an expensive add on.
Since you ruled out WhatsApp and Viber, you need a VoIP app that can dial actual phone numbers, not just app to app calls. A few that work:
InternationalCall works over wifi or data and dials real phone numbers. Pay as you go with no subscription. Rates to the US are a few cents per minute. I use it for calling US businesses from abroad.
Skype used to be good for this but just shut down.
Google Voice works but needs a US number to set up initially.
For calling a credit card company you'll probably be on hold forever so the per minute cost adds up. But still way cheaper than trying to get Play to connect an international call.

I'm currently using two virtual phone numbers from Zadarma, and honestly — they’ve been absolute lifesavers.
I use my Israeli number primarily for banking, while my American number handles everything else — from registrations to sharing contacts.
What I love most is the seamless functionality: automated voicemail, SMS support, and even Telegram alerts. All my voicemails are conveniently delivered straight to my email inbox — no hassle at all.
I'm genuinely impressed with how smooth and reliable the service has been.
P.S. You can register a number from almost any country — which makes it incredibly versatile no matter where you are.

Had to call US recently too and ended up using Callshake - doesn’t require phone number, pay-as-you-go, and works for calling US landlines and toll-free numbers for very low rates.

I recommend DialVia it's a very solid skype alternative and it works on a pay as you go credit system

Hey mate, I know it’s a bit late but I launched ringforless.io just for this purpose.
$0.03/min to the US 😁

I just tried VIBER. It was a little hassle to get the app to activate, but once i got it done,
I paid $1.99 (the package was $4.99 minus a $3 credit). I was on the phone with the banks in Australia (calling from USA) for about 5min and it cost me 15c.
There are a few solutions (Yolla, Talk360), but I have used Viber in the past (it had a live translation feature that was great when I worked in Japan) - and I felt it was probably a better known brand than the others (that looks to be very African centric).

Webbphone allows you to make cheap international calls from browser, and even lets you add your own caller id. You just need to pay for what you use and credits never expire. No monthly subscription.

Voip services will work like skype to mobile, rebtel, viberout, etc..

DialHard is what I've been using lately. It's around 2-3 cents per minute to most places and you just need a browser. Works fine with banks since it connects to regular phone numbers.

I found this thread to ask about my situation. I need to call UK tax office from the EU, does Skype UK credit work for this purpose?
aquarius108@reddit
Yes existing credit will work. Now skype has stop adding credit to accounts. Only they offer monthy or yearly subscription now.

I recommend the Zadarma Project apps for Android and iOS phones. Their apps are easy to use and the prices on the low side.
stardust7891@reddit
Zadarma is great - when it's working. Which is 50/50
Telecom_VoIP_Fan@reddit
We've clearly had different experiences. On the rare occasions when I needed to contact their help, I found them very responsive, and quick on the take.
stardust7891@reddit
Same as a friend who recommended Zadarma to me, he had no issues. My app was freezing and crashing all the time (android) and it was super frustrating.
idan78@reddit
Yea, I had a shitty experience with them aswell, and the support was terrible.
NordicJesus@reddit
Google Voice, but you need access to a US phone number to sign up (could be the number of a friend or family member). Or Skype.
