I wanted to watch the original because I was six and I thought it was going to be about the Shogun Warriors, which were giant robot toys and a comic book that I loved. I was quite disappointed. I am interested in the remake though. The presence of swords makes up for what I assume will still be a lack of robots.
About 11 years ago I managed to track down the whole lot of DVD...about 13 hours worth and watched it with friends.
We used to do a 'Japanese Cultural Awareness' night once a month where we would go out to Japanese for dinner...walk back to a friend's house, buying some Sake and Sapporo beer along the way and watch a couple of episodes. Took a few months.
It was good...except they couldn't afford too many extra so the fight and battle scenes were a bit sparse.
Looking forward to the new one.
I saw it recently and they must've shot it in very high-quality film because the recent copt look great. Honestly, it's one of those things that why bother remaking it? Was just perfect in every way.
I watched it with my parents in mid 80 commie Poland, then in mid 90 on CityTV in Toronto and I'm still enjoying it on DVD discs. Good series. From that time I also like North and South,Space 1999 and Cosmos series with Carl Sagan but this one I can't find on DVD.
Watched the original and really liked it.
No clue if the remake will be good or not. One of the creators is the dude that wrote “Top Gun: Maverick” so I don’t have high hopes.
