More axles = more allowed weight. There's also a lift axle on the tractor by the drives. Could be pushing 120,000 lbs or more gross weight. Depends on the state and the way they do things. Michigan will let you gross up to 164,000 across 11 axles if you can do it. We've got super tankers with 8 axles for hauling milk, fuel, water, liquid propane.

When there are more than two axles in tandem does the weight per axle go down like how single is 20k then twin is 17k per etc?

It’s interesting to know the names of different truck combinations around the world You call 8 axles super tankers Up here I’m just called a Super-B 9 axle is a Queen-B 10 axle is a King-B Queens and kings are mostly for molten sulfur and copper ore etc
View on Reddit #19077869

Blackfx4x4@reddit

Whether super tanker is a legit common name for them here in Michigan, I'm not sure. That's what I call them. Gravel trains (two dump trailers), steel trains (multiple flatbed hauling steel in various forms) are common though. I'm sure there's more nicknames for combos here in Michigan than I'm aware of. Some call the 45-53 foot trailers with multiple axles centipedes, which I understand from all the axles. In Michigan, in state, they recognize axle load, not gross weight. So if it scales out per axle, it's legit.

The extra axles are for extra weight but this is probably some sort of food item like water, milk, or liquid sugar. No visible placards so it’s probably safe and it doesn’t look like it is a baffled or bulkheaded tanker so it’s probably a smooth bore food tanker. I’m not sure how many gallons that is but if it’s milk and it’s more than 5000 gallons the extra axles make sense. A gallon of milk weighs 8.6 pounds so an 8000 gallon tank could be up to 68,800 pounds fully loaded or about 23,800 pounds more than could normally loaded into an empty van trailer but these extra axles would help with that extra weight without forcing them to leave the tanks only half full.

Allows extra weight in the tank by not weighing too much on any one axle. Smaller drop axles are rated for 9.5k, I'm not sure if these are the same since they look full sized. Head to the PNW or NV/UT/MT and you will see them everywhere. We drop the axles when we're heavy but if we're light or empty we raise them. In really bad ice some people will raise the one on the truck to push more weight onto the steers and drives even though it's illegal.

Super tanker. I used to run fire retardant for airplanes for wild fires. That shit is heavy. Could only load them a little over halfway and had to feel the surge cause they were loaded on smooth boar trailers.

Most these people are talking about the hole in the standard highway a lot of times what the reason why they are there extra axles is they're going on roads have a lower axle weight limits For the most part it's a 10 ton axle weight limit on the main highways but you can get some rolls where there's only a 5 ton axle weight limit So he may only be carrying them 80,000 pounds but because the Warner roadster going on has a 5-ton axle weight limit and they don't want to bother switching vehicles when they go on the lighter weight road
View on Reddit #18916197

Jessi_longtail@reddit

So depending on the state will determine the amount of weight this setup can be permitted to haul. Perfect example, in NY where I run, my quad axle dump trailer is permitted to 117,000lbs gross.

No placards, probably fertilizer, some of the stuff I haul weighs 12 lbs a gallon. I'm limited because the 80,000 lb max gvw. I can only haul 4,500 gallons, alot of farmers have 6,000 gallon holding tanks. With that set up depending on the state could easily haul the full 6,000 gallons.
