Hey AskUK, should I drop out of college to work in sales?

I do B2B sales, do quite well and have no degree. If I could go back in time I would have completed my degree and am thinking about going back to uni part time at some point in the future even though I’ve been lucky so far and landed good roles without one. Some companies will not even entertain an interview unless you have that qualification though, and they’re usually the ones that pay the best/have the most interesting products. A job paying 2k plus commission to a 17 year old with no sales experience sounds very suspect in itself and I doubt the reality will be how it’s dressed up. Also, what does selling marketing mean? It’s a saturated space with a lot of deeply embedded incumbents so you’ll have a hard time with a poor offer, lack of USP or trying to disrupt. It’s not too late to change courses if you don’t enjoy your subjects, or to get your head down and work on getting those grades to a place that will allow you the OPTION of going to uni. If you later decide you don’t want to (I’d advise going if you can), you’ll always have decent A-levels/equivalent to fall back on. A degree is all about having options. Sadly, there are certain barriers and blockers you’ll have to navigate without whereas someone with the degree won’t have to consider those things. If you do the CS degree, you’ll be able to land a variety of well paid entry level tech sales jobs, or forget sales altogether and work as an engineer for good money. Finally, what if you’re shit at selling? It’s not rocket science but depending on what you sell and who you sell to, it’s not always a walk in the park either. If you give everything up for this job and it doesn’t work out what’s the game plan? I’d go to uni, and part time or over the summer find a lead generation/entry level SDR/BDR job to get a feel for what sales involves and whether you enjoy it.
