In The Fast and The Furious (2001) What does "Granny shifting, not double-clutching like you should." mean?

Psh it's obvious. You're granny shifting, not double-clutching like you should.
SugaSoFly@reddit
I can’t see how double clutching could be faster. I know my dad used to use heel-toe braking when downshifting.
Low-Maize-5553@reddit
holy smokes you really don't know anything huh. You're lucky you didn't blow the welds off the intake.
Gloomy_Mouse_8165@reddit
you dbl clutch a semi until you learn to shift without a clutch at the correct rpms

I know this is old, but I found this in a related query. Was thinking about it while driving my CTS-V around..

It means the writers had no idea what they were talking about, because nobody double-clutches when they drive a car.
BJSucksOnDick@reddit
I'm sure 'somebody' does it LOL
Slideways@reddit
True. I guess I should have said nobody needs to double-clutch unless they're driving something pre-war.
Aggravating_Seat694@reddit
Or a tractor trailer. We double clutch. I float gears now
Slideways@reddit
Yeah, that’s what I meant when I said they don’t double clutch when driving a car. Old cars, yeah. Massive trucks are a different ballgame.
Cyclic2@reddit
The only people I've seen that double shift in their regular car is because their synchronizers got damaged and didn't work on that gear. Other than that, no car should have to double clutch unless it's an old semi truck.

Granny shifting is just slow shifting.
Double clutching has been used for various reasons To control weight shifting in an out of turns for older road racers (not drag cars). And in older cars without synchros, you couldn't put it into gear unless you did it.
CoconutDust@reddit
Why would transmission/shifting be used to "control weight shifting" instead of brakes and throttle? Any weight shift from transmission shift could instead be done by brakes with the added benefit of being in the correct gear when needed at the correct time (and when every fraction of a sound counts) instead of being in neutral for no reason.
Several-Error-8193@reddit
It's easier to control the braking around a corner in neutral instead of engine braking and losing too much momentum. Sometimes you just want to coast through, maybe the slightest brake. Also, while you're in neutral, you can raise the RPM to the perfect spot for the right gear just as you round the apex, right as you're ready for throttle, so there's no time lost at all. But like he said, that's for very specific turns in road races, not drag, which is what they were doing in the movie.

Granny shifting instead of double clutching, like you should.

Double clutching would be done only on hydraulic clutch units, not for a clutch that uses a cable. If your clutch has a cable that connects it from the clutch lever, whether it be a lever or a pedal, then it’s a cabled clutch. no cabled clutch needs to be double clutch ever. Now if your clutch uses hydraulic fluid that would be the only reason that you need to double clutch. And that’s because the hydraulic clutch is low on fluid and you need to build up pressure to get the gears to sync grow up and switch. So the fast and the furious statement, granny shifting not double clutching the writer has no idea what he’s talking about and it’s just words he saying to make that his character look smart, but in essence, he’s making himself look like an idiot because nowhere in real life shifting twice or double clutching a car twice is going to win any race the time it takes to lift your leg and put it back down two times to push in that clutch you’re not winning a race.

Double clutching a built car that probably has a built transmission is completely unnecessary. We aren’t driving a 70 year old peterbilt here.

Granny shifting, not double clutching like you should.

Double clutching is only required on gearboxes with Dog teeth nowadays or dog boxes as they are known , which also usualky means they don't have a syncromesh which means rev matching is required during upshifts and downshifts to not grind the gears together.
