No, that works fine for losing weight, too. Or gaining it, for that matter. Track your calories. See if the scale has moved in your desired direction in a week. If not, reduce/increase your calories by 200ish. Repeat until you have a reasonable surplus/deficit that causes a small amount of weight change per week.
Its really more of "lose the two big bottles of Coke per day and work from there" and less of "eat only grass/goat gonads for every meals".
Why would you take seriously a video by someone who:
- doesn't use they keyword "energy" to define calories (no, they are not a measure of heat, even if energy can be dissipated as heat to be measured)
- acts as if he didn't understand that calories written on aliments are how much energy a human body can extract from it, so in dietetics wood is close to 0 calories because we do not have the ability to digest it
-mTor is not a hormone
- he does not seem to realize that the numerous mecanisms of satiety retroactive loops in fact boil down to energy detection after saying those don't exist
I know he's supposed to be a doctor but he is clearly forgot some basics or more likely, he's trying to sell you something so he doesn't care.
[Take it from somebody else](https://www.redpenreviews.org/reviews/the-obesity-code-unlocking-the-secrets-of-weight-loss/), his thesis go against known biology.
I mean, there are two aspects to it:
1) The literal, surface-level. CICO is absolute fact. You MUST eat fewer calories than you burn to lose weight. It's fundamentally true.
2) The behavioral. How to get there. HOW do you eat fewer calories than you burn? That's where things get complex, and as far as I am aware there are no good answers. People find stuff that works for them, or they don't. That can be everything from a pure single-minded iron will, to the most convoluted and bizarre bag of mental tricks and lifestyle changes you've ever seen.
Much of the failure in this discussion comes down to communication I think. The basic description of CICO can sound like it's implying overweight people simply lack the willpower to eat less. Then people will try refuting that idea, but it sounds like an attack on the logic of CICO itself
(obviously there *are* many people who think weight is simply a matter of will, and there *are* many people who think special diets will let a person get around CICO. But I'll see conversations between two people who both seem reasonable, but are making different points and not realizing it)
You didn't watch the video then, i suppose? CICO is just a small and honestly not interesting part of the equation, as you when you lower your calorie intake your body often just goes into power saving mode so CO is lower as well. It becomes harder and harder to get to your goals if what you're eating still creates insulin spikes.
Eat what you want. See if you're still fat. If so, reduce a bit of the portions. Repeat until desired result.
That's like, the definition of "moderation" - not eating in excess.
If you'd prefer not to track your calories and just eyeball it ("I'll just reduce all my portions by 1/5"), by all means. It might still work, at least in the beginning. You just won't know what exact levers you can tweak if progress begins to slow down.
you see, the thing is, "moderation" is not a good solution when we're talking about addictions, you wouldn't tell an alcoholic to "just drink once a week", or a smoker "just smoke one cigarette every other day". I agree that if they could do that that would be a great way to slowly get over the addiction. You need to understand that obese people are addicted to food, be it using it as coping mechanism for something else, or maybe just because you enjoy it too much. Food addicition is so much harder to overcome cause at the end of the day, you HAVE to eat everyday, you can't just stop eating.
It's much harder to calorie count every single thing you do while hoping you can figure out your losing calories ratio, than it is to just not eat the shit you want and save eating shit you like in moderation for when you're down in the weight.
A lot of stuff do not do calories correctly, or do not give them at all.
For example, I have a diet right now of around 800-1200kcals a day, with quite a strict diet of what I eat specifically because if I want anything I like in moderation the portions are beyond tiny to still be able to keep up my consistent weight loss.
If I was eating what I wanted in moderation now, I'd basically be eating 1 meal a day and still be very fucking hungry.
What size are you to have a calorie intake that low? If you're a male of medium height and either medium or above average weight, that is a drastically low amount of calories to take in.
My calorie intake is that low due to my ADHD.
If I eat low calories and keep it roughly KETO, I get a lot less mind fog and my symptoms lessen, however it takes a week or so to get into then the mind fog helps it keep going.
Even then, to lose any sort of weight without waiting a year, dieting really needs to be that strict, it's easy enough. Hardest part is saying no to my gf for takeout nights lmfao
Yeah look, ultimately the best diet is the one that works so more power to you. For me tho, with lifting etc it's generally not recommended to not lose much more than 0.5kg from the start unless you're pretty drastically overweight.
Yeah I have the opposite, If I slow burn and don't see much if any progress, I wonder why I'm bothering at all really.
So I go all or nothing until I lose what I want, then eat what I want in moderation to stay roughly the same weight
Even with lifting, I've never noticed any issues with rapidly decreasing my weight. I don't get weaker and I don't have any side effects, so I never understand what people worry about.
It's hard on your body to lose weight, or to change in any direction really. Especially if it's quick. You can get heart attacks from being fat but also from losing too much weight too quickly
Yeah I'm cutting for the first time and the first 2-3 weeks were miserable. I've settled into it now though, and even got the calories down a little further.
Plus food and board and it’s doubled when active service.
Also why would you lose your citizenship? In my country I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t if I joined.
A lot of countries have laws that make it illegal to fight in another country's military. Rarely prosecuted though. But I know of a few people who've ran into a little trouble with the police for going to fight against ISIS.
the problem is youncant really take away cititzenship so easily if the person would become stateless. still yeah my country says nope to serving for another country which i find very good honestly.
Quite a high profile recent case in Britain involved a woman having her citizenship stripped.
I like how it's applied in the UK. No one is gonna be prosecuted for fighting for Ukraine. They weren't in the Spanish civil war either which was quite widely debated in British parliament at the time.
I know that much but I am pretty sure my country has whitelisted most Western militaries so that if I wanted to join the French Foreign Legion I won’t be running into any trouble.
lol this is like what people say about the US military
they completely ignore: housing provided (or given a voucher to find your own if applicable- you can actually bank money with this), food provided (or voucher?), GI bill, free healthcare for life, and pension
There may be things I'm forgetting, but it's wild that people only look at the salary and ignore that your biggest living expenses are completely covered.
This happens when comparing *income* over time too, when really people should be looking at *compensation*, and it blows my mind how much money people must be just leaving on the ground throughout life
i was talking about the foreign legion. i mean i already have free healthcare i am talking about riskingy literal life for a country that is not mine in somewhat dodgy operation all over the globe. for that you should see some dough right?
Relaxed and common sense routines honestly work best for just maintaining good health. However, more restrictive stuff comes in for serious muscle building or very low bf% goals.
That's when it's nice to have a sexy mommy master at home that ties you up in the dungeon anytime they catch you snacking. Last week I had to go to the ER for testicular torsion after I mentioned getting popcorn at the theater.
Achyulallü popcorn isn't that bad for you. It is the butter and salt that's sprinkled on top like a WW2 carpet bombing that makes it unhealthy.
Decent sized bowl of popcorn is few hundred calorie and contains non-insignificant amount of fiber and protein

For a lot of people, simply cutting out* soda and alcohol is a near immediate way to lose 5-10Ibs.
*I say “cutting out” but you don’t really have to cut it out completely. You can replace with low/no cal options, or still occasionally enjoy soda/frappes/beer once or twice a week.
You're right about that. Stop drinking calories and avoid ice cream/dessert. That's an easy 5lbs off your baseline.
Truth is it's really really hard to lose weight, especially if you're eating junk food. Protein and fiber are what I look for.
I honestly found it really easy to lose weight once I had a clear picture of why I *wasnt* losing. Cico is just basic math and it works. I have habits and routines, and all I had to do was tweak those to eat slightly less and burn slightly more calories.
I didn’t change everything at once tho—I changed like one or two things at a time until I cemented it as a habit (a week or so) and then I added in a new change. I lost forty pounds in a year that way (and I’m a woman so a man doing that would lose even more). I purposefully gained back 5, and have been maintaining that for, like, three years now.
An easy place is also cutting out bread, you can easily eat >95% of meals without it and two slices are like 200cal which is a lot if you're trying to do a 500cal lunch for instance
Yes indeed. I don't completely cut off carbs but I prioritize protein and fiber. So I opt for whole grains when I do.
Yeah for a bit more than 200 calories I can have some Greek yogurt and a little oatmeal. I usually skip breakfast though and eat lunch.
I replaced my unhealthy snacks with healthy snacks. Carrots, almonds (in moderation), veggies chips, snap peas, etc. If you find a veggie you like the taste of, buy that instead of carbs.
Yup. Walk every day, but however much I feel like that day. Do some push ups and sit ups the first few times I get bored each day. Eat normal sized portions of whatever I'm craving. No weight issues anymore!
works fine when you're fat but as soon as you're at a more reasonable weight, you're gonna need to start running and working out if you don't wanna be skinnyfat
Yup. 4-6 weeks ago I simply stopped eating sweets and started having only what I really needed (instead of eating when I'm not hungry or getting something at 12pm) and I've lost around 2.5kg now. Now I'm just waiting for this rain to stop so I can finally go cycling again
I’m trying to gain weight, I’m at 5’10” 175 rn with moderately low body fat, trying to lean bulk. I need to hit the gym though I’m getting to the point where my home equipment isn’t enough. I’m not lucky though, I run a 5k often and go for bike rides a few times a week, I do a lot of calisthenics and lift weights, I’m mostly careful about what I eat and I don’t drink alcohol. Also my job keeps me on my feet
Maybe, but I don't feel like running in circles or picking things up to put them down again. I just run places I want to be, and carry what I want to move from one palce to another, and eat when it appears I should eat something. It's not that hard. Anyway, I can't just punch a tank and any job that requires strength seems to fuck up your body in the long run. I'm not gonna pay to roll Sisyphus' rock.
People who are obese(speaking from experience, used to be lmao) often have no fucking clue what moderation is. Seriously, its insane how out of touch you can be about how much you eat as a 300lb dude when your frame of reference is that of a 300lb dude.
It hit me when I wanted to try calorie counting, but called bs cus i "swore I wasnt eating that much, my bodies just weird". I decided to count how much I ate by weighing the food and using myfitnesspal.
Deadass fr no bullshit I ate 5000 calories that day, a day that looking back was one of my better ones. Ever since then I decided to actually count my cals instead of just relying on my broken intuition, and after a year and a half I was in the normal range.
AFTER that weight loss was when I built the intuition, cus I finally realized what a "meal" was supposed to look like, and what it FEELS like(most fat people eat till they're full when the average person eats till they're "satisfied", an alien concept unless you know what satisfied is).
The experience is the reason why i always call bullshit whenever someone online says theyre body is "weird". Like yeah maybe you DO have a thyroid issue or something but 99% of the time they just have no clue how much/how little they eat. Thats the benefit of shit like keto/counting calories, it reframes what the hell a meal is supposed to be instead of letting fat dudes rely on an instinct that they clearly don't have
>its insane how out of touch you can be about how much you eat as a 300lb dude when your frame of reference is that of a 300lb dude.
Your body wants to keep the status quo. So if you are eating that much your body wants to keep eating that much. Losing weight can be hard because you feel hungry because you're eating less calories than you're usually eating.
That's what drives me crazy about the "my 400lb life" type shows. If all they did was stop drinking a 12 pack of soda every day they'd lose like 10lbs a week for a year.
Whats insane is that to those people, 12 sodas a day is perfectly normal. It sounds and IS fucking lunacy but at that weight(and obesity in general)there's an actual disorder at play. You simply just don't end up at that extreme without completely fucked eating habits, rock bottom discipline, and a bitch of a coping mechanism. Kinda like how 60lb anorexics live with the reality that their 200cal lifestyles are their average day to day, while being a slave to body image issues and restricting so much to feel control over them.
So yeah, if you transported an average reasonably fit mentally healthy persons mind into their bodies, you'd best believe they'd slip off those 5lbs every week lol.
Yeah I agree. There's absolutely no way a mentally healthy person can get to 500lbs. You have to obsessively eat the worst possible food every day for years to get that heavy. Eating fast food and other junk every day will get you up to 300lbs easy, but there's just a limit on how much weight the body can put on unless you're really fucking trying.
My friend would deadass eat one and a half large pizzas for dinner.
What would make me stuffed would be considered “not enough”. And the psychology is incredibly alien to me. Like he loves the feeling of being super full, and food comas. Which are the worst feelings in the world for me.
My boyfriend grew up like that too, in addition to having to compete with 3 other large kids for food. He’s just now starting to count calories and we’re both amazed at how quickly they add up.
However, you can easily outlift a shitty diet. 30 minutes of strength training per day burns much more calories than 30 minutes of running per day once you’ve built up some decent muscle mass.
Muscles are greedy fuckers who gobble up your shitty diet even when you’re sleeping.
You _can_, but it's a shit-ton of running.
I know an ultramarathonner, we're talking 120-mile multi-fay runs almost every other weekend, and she will just eat an entire tub of pimento cheese for lunch while still looking like a skeleton.
Knees are right-proper fucked, though.
> knees are proper fucked though
Fuck me man hahah I can sympathize with that. I do dragon boat, but my teammates do marathons as well and it's just their knees that always give out.
Everything is relative. Of course you could just run for 3 hours every day while eating 3,500 calories, but that's not really viable unless your name is Forrest Gump
I wasn’t eating great for a couple years and barely exercised. Didn’t gain weight. Everyone’s different and unhealthy diet doesn’t necessarily mean eating a ton of food
i exercise whenever I'm bored and i dont diet i just dont eat much
and i can do 1 arm pullups, a front lever, static handstands, planche (almost im working on it), etc
and im ripped but only 150lbs coz if you didnt figure out im just an average rock climber
Yeah strict diets simply don't work unless you're basically committed to the diet for the rest of your life, which the vast majority of people won't and end up putting every pound back on in months.
I'll give my dad some credit, he started Atkins/low-carb back in like 2003 and I've seen him eat bread or pasta like 3 times in the last 20 years.
A lot of people have really bad reactions to certain foods and restrictive diets work wonders. I'm not lactose intolerant but eliminating dairy from my diet was HUGE for inflammation, recovery time, shit that was keeping me from exercising like really bad tendonitis
Keto does not make you crave carbs if you eat enough fatty foods and nutrition. But if you just eat
Hot dogs and olive oil and cheese your body will crave the fortified shit🙃
When I'm really hungry and I'm forcing myself not to eat watching food recipes and researching what ingredients I'll need helps keep the urge down. But the worst thing is when you just have that ability to pick anything freely up like a candy on a desk which throws off your fasting.
Nothing about this is clever. Calories are the only thing that matters. Carbs don't make you gain fat any more than other foods. You could drop body fat eating nothing but potatoes.
Anon is obviously craving carbs and will eventually break and binge. Restrict food quantity, not food groups. That's why so many diets fail. They do dumb shit like cutting out entire food groups they love or trying to lose too much too fast. If your diet is unsustainable, your weight will be too.
Carbs are high calorie low satiety. You can eat carbs in moderation, but if you're trying to lose weight, low carb is a really simple way to go about it.
I never met a person who got fat from a fat and protein diet but everyone I know that actually dropped weight did so from reducing or completely abandoning carbs
Also, almost all "empty calories" (calories without needed nutriens) are carbs - alcohol, chips and similar snacks, processed sugars etc.
Restricting processed junk of that nature is like 70% of keto
>Also, almost all "empty calories" are carbs... - alcohol, ...
Just want to note that alcohol itself isn't a carb (though it is indeed mostly processed as empty calories) and won't mess up a keto diet. It's beer, large amounts of wine, mixers, all that, that'll send you over your carb budget; straight liquor isn't a problem.
he is right but you are not wrong, thing is its very easy to get 2000 calories from carbs but difficult to get them from fats or proteins (relatively) ... that is why low carb diet is good imo
Also, almost every type of food people abuse for dopamine is carb-based
It's common for fat people to binge on chocolate "because they're having a bad day" not unlike a drug addict would do but it's lot less likely for that to happen with keto foods
Your genetics dictate how much it will affect you if you're intaking a higher than recommended amount. Much like salt though if you're an individual that is at risk you will need to be cognizant of that while attempting any sort of diet.
Smoking, sedentary lifestyle, and type 2 diabetes all raise cholesterol far more than dietary cholesterol could ever dream of. It's not genetics, it's other shit. High cholesterol is an indicator that you're doing something to inflame your inner vascular walls. It's mostly there to patch holes, and your body manufactures at least 80% of serum cholesterol. Stop making the holes, and the serum cholesterol drops. Lower your cholesterol intake, and you're only slowing your body's ability to patch those holes. The holes are the problem. Not the cholesterol. Unless you're too stupid to stop doing unhealthy shit, then lowering your cholesterol might give an extra year of your miserable life and let's be honest, you probably dont want it if that's you.
I was on keto for a bout a year and got nervous about this. Got blood work done and they said I was in good shape. 🤷♂️ I’m sure it varies but the cholesterol thing is more subjective than anything.
I've been on exclusively meat, eggs, and dairy for years and my cholesterol is fine. I've never even heard of this happening to anyone except during the first few months unless they're doing something stupid like not realizing their organic cane sugar or raw honey are carbohydrates because the labels sound nice when you say them out loud.
It's actually recommended to only do keto for 6 months to make a quick fat burn, and get you to develop a habit of eating low carb foods. Once you've done that, they recommend following a Mediterranean diet to sustain yourself in the future (spoiler alert, it's delicious).
It's simple carbs that are the problem they break down fast and are generally calorie dense.
Complex carbs are slower and provide more energy throughout the day without messing with your insulin levels. Most people don't eat enough complex carbs and too many simple ones because they are cheaper and addictive.
Nuts are extremely caloric though.
100 grams of peanuts has the equivalent of 550grams of rice Or 500 grams of steak.
I met a few of vegetarians who were fat due to nuts consumption.
this is why I don't make a big deal out of someone doing keto
I don't personally, but when I've lost weight in the past it'll be common for me to just be in ketosis. carbs are literally unnecessary (though ofc they can help with energy and such), so if you're in a low-cal diet, you need to get protein and need to get *some* fat. The likely outcome is massively cutting carbs.
And for some people, it's easier to focus *specifically* on that
so long as no one's saying keto is intrinsically better than other types of weight loss and acknowledges it only works because it helps someone be in a calorie deficit, I say more power to em
Yes junk food is a big part of it, carbs will make you more bloated and increase bloodsugar.
But removing junk food (eg empty calories) from should be part of every balanced diet
>Calories are the only thing that matters. Carbs don't make you gain fat any more than other foods
On paper sure, in practice for the majority of dumbasses out there, fuck no.
Carbs artificially inflate hunger. It's almost impossible to overeat when your only energy source is fat, due to how satiating it is and how much more you can actually trust when your body tells you to start and stop eating. If you're overweight, you'll drop it. If you're underweight, you'll gain. This will happen without you even trying or doing neurotic bullshit like calorie counting.
mr genius over here who just found out how calories work
yeah, CICO is the iron law of weight loss- there is no around it. But people can use psychological tricks to make it easier to eat fewer calories. I won't tolerate someone saying keto is better than any other strategy, but if it *works* for someone, then that's fantastic.
>Anon is obviously craving carbs and will eventually break and binge.
lol sure ok. you say this like it's special to carbs or low-carb diets. as if people on restricted calories aren't just craving FOOD and will break and binge
there's nothing here special about keto, and the poster doesn't even imply there is. they're just on a keto diet.
they're finding ways to make eating less easier and you're just mad
> you say this like it's special to carbs or low-carb diets
Your reading comprehension isn't fantastic, is it? I never said it was specific to carbs. But carbs are the thing anon is craving because they're what he cut out. These fad diets never work long term because you can't restrict food groups forever. Anon will regain it all.
> These fad diets never work long term because you can't restrict food groups forever. Anon will regain it all.
This is literally the same thing people say about dieting period. It leads to the exclusive conclusion that it is impossible to lose weight.
Which, in a way, isn't exactly wrong- most people will regain.
But it isn't right, because plenty of people *do* lose weight and keep it off. Or maybe they regain it then lose it again.
You're literally just talking out of your ass "oh he CRAVES carbs, THUS he will never keep weight off!" Almost all diet discussion is just bullshit axioms pulled from the asses of dipshits.
No, he's correct and you're mad. I cut down on all my foods. I eat everything the same, but less. I love pasta and ice cream, carbs and sugar are delicious. I've lost 35 lbs and it's an easy to follow life style. My mom and sister have tried numerous weight loss plans, like Keto, and every time I hear "I can't eat x, I shouldn't consume y", I see them sad for a week, then eating that thing again, and then quitting the diet because they failed. Cutting things cold turkey is such a 1% thing and so many peoppe think it works or its easy
I have not said that simply eating less does not work. It absolutely does
the point is, as long as people are eating at a deficit, they will lose weight. how they get there varies for many people.
cool experience bro I've heard from a dozen people with your same experience, and a dozen who lost weight thanks to keto and other fads
> This is literally the same thing people say about dieting period.
Because when people think of dieting they think of this fad diet bullshit that always inevitably fails. Keto, carnivore, weight watchers, jenny craig, everything that isn't just straight up "eat fewer calories" fails.
Sv trve. The keto diet is just for people who don't understand shit about nutrition, and/or are not disciplined enough to track their calories, and maintain a calorie deficit.
It's pretty much impossible to gain weight from eating nothing but meat and fat (as some retarded people in this thread, who think 300 calories of carb heavy junk food is somehow worse than 300 calories of rice have stated), but if you don't eat carbs, you're going to start using the protein in your body as fuel, ultimately burning muscle mass in the process.
My parents have been doing the keto diet recently, and my dad says he wants to go to the gym and start working out after he loses a bunch of weight, but that's basically just like showering before you shit (on an unrelated note, he thinks it's a good idea to expend all of his energy doing a 30 minute cardio session before lifting weights, lol). But hey, at least he doesn't have to keep a log of his calories and macros, or think that hard about anything.
Not drinking a pop takes out the guess work. Not going back for seconds if the plate is full takes out the guess work. Exercising for over an hour to burn any excess calories takes out the guess work.
Making excuses does not.
Well if you (royal you) know the average amount you eat, and are above the weight you want, then every time you eat anything you would eat some percentage of that.
Like if you always eat a whole frozen pizza, eat half of one and stop. Or if you eat a plate full of food, eat 3/4. Or 1/4. Basically just less, but consistently less.
This reduces the calories in, without affecting any other variables like calories out or nutrient proportions.
Because you track the weight change over time. If you are at a calorie deficit calculated to lose 1lb/ week, and you only lose 0.5lb, then you simply reduce the calorie target to accommodate that. It doesn't matter if the individual measurements are super accurate, as long as they are recorded consistently you can adapt the target calories based on weight change over time.
If you add exercise you will lose more than planned, and can add more calories to stay on track. There will always be short term variations in water retention, physical activity, base metabolic rate etc, but CICO and your weight will on average will change as planned when measured and tailored over weeks/months, and not on how accurately your lunch or treadmill workout was measured.
People who say CICO just want to sound smart. It's like saying if you want to save money just stop spending. Different diets are about how you get there, nobody cares that you know the laws of thermodynamics.
Calories are not the only thing that matters, if you eat 2000 calories of processed shit vs 2000 calories of healthy food your body composition will look different
Not wrong, but it's still a big difference if you avoid carbs late in the evening (dinner) so your blood sugar doesnt spike and your body uses it's own fat reserves during the sleeping phase
Eventually, mine developed into fully living spiritual beings that live inside my head. When I told the doctor about my technique he gave me medicine that made my friends go away...
You should look into tulpas although internal you can hallucinate them as external full beings and you can shard your personality and have each be the "version" of you that you want
Yeah, this is kinda what I did to quit drinking pop / soda too. Except I just gaslit my brain into thinking it's carbonated water by really focusing on the carbonated feeling
(If you're drinking 1+ can per day, it makes a massive difference quitting, I went from 190 to 170 while keeping the rest of my diet the same, it's super unhealthy)
Shit like this works for some people, me included.
Negative thoughts creeo in to pester me? Second I catch it I go off on the voice in my head calling him a dramatic cunt or whatever
Im high as shit, or schizzo
ok, so you're voluntarily making yourself socially inept while interacting on a social media site? You know, I don't watch TV either but I know what stuff is.
"I don't want tv" "errrhm ackshually you're making yourself unable to socialise while using a social app erhm I don't watch tv but I watch instagram reels/tiktoks/youtube shorts/facebook clips so I know what it os regardless" I don't own a tv dingus, not because I can't afford one but because I don't live in an area that has power lines, I charge my old ass phone with car batterys and adaptors
no, I want you to personally describe the scene you're so emotionally invested in so I can get a personal description and not an objective evaluation, what does the scene mean to you as a person?
It’s gonna be way easier for all of us if you just go watch king of the hill clips, if you won’t do that then you’ll never get the reference and that’s okay too
I can tell you from experience the moment you revert back to bad habits or introduce something that goes way off what's intended, it all goes to shit. Diet is a lifestyle change if you're doing it correctly.
On keto, I went from 200lb to 170lb. Once you get past the addiction to carbs (i had intense cravings for bread and spaghetti) and discipline your mind away from it, it becomes your new habit. I haven't had gastrointestinal problems since and my A1C is perfect.
But there are plenty of diets out there that seem to work for people. Just make sure you're getting the proper nutrition.
I disagree. "going on a diet" is temporary change. Changing your eating habits for long term/permanently is not dieting. It's rewiring your eating for good
I accounted for this fundamentally with "diet is a lifestyle change if you're doing it correctly."
And even then, diet is defined as "the kinds of food that a person, animal, or community habitually eats." Meaning your definition is flawed at the Google level.
You know as well as I do that in day-to-day language _dieting_ refers to temporary changes in eating, whether that's how it is defined or not.
"Yeah I went on a diet five years ago"
Considering language has been abused and misused by miscreants and fools internationally, I most certainly don't respect any kind of usage of a term other than a formally established one.
Redditors seething at this but you’re right. I’m not “on a diet” I just eat healthy. The diet mentality will always fail once they realize they have to do it forever, instead of actually changing their lifestyle to support better habits
Yeah, you also need to learn how to cook and appreciate rice. The biggest problem with a diet is that you need to find your dietary plan that you can follow for the next few decades
I very much agree.
Rice is fantastic. Fried rice is such an easy dish to make too, I've literally made it throwing in random leftovers and it's tasted amazing. Genuinely the best "throw whatever in" dish there is.
diet1
/ˈdʌɪət/
verb
gerund or present participle: dieting
restrict oneself to small amounts or special kinds of food in order to lose weight.
"I began dieting again"
Nawww
Yep. Went from 160 to 135 lbs only to rubber band up to 180. Eating healthy does wonders but you need to discipline yourself to not eat too much and not eat unhealthy often
so you are saying that you used some half assed trash that didn't work for years and that doesn't have all of the features of simply browsing reddit on your phone's browser?
If you want to lose wight eat small amounts infrequently, if you're hungry it's working.
If you want to gain weight eat large amounts, if you're uncomfortable and full it's working
simple as
Well, eating all my macros is probably the key to sticking to a diet. Why would you mostly cut out your bodies main source of energy? Just don't eat as much as you normally do, eat a variety of unprocessed foods, and you'll lose weight.
Yea carbs are a real mother fucker. The more refined ones give you a fat dopamine hit obviously, and the fact that they can be converted to energy or stored as fat so easily is what makes us crave them.
What's always helped me with my diet is hydration. I just set a timer on my fit bit and every 3 hours I consume 500ml. Helps a lot with satiation, not to mention metabolism.
Like 99% of all chemical reactions in the body require an aqueous state (aq) to occur, and helping facilitate that helps a lot. Helps with everything. Helps with energy, helps with skin health (this is a HUGE one), sexual health, muscle recovery...
It's not fucking rocket science, drink more water. Get a good stainless steel water bottle and a Britta pitcher if it helps.
Every time you look at some delicious food think of eating it as pissing your pants. You get that warm feeling for a moment, but once it cools off you know what you've done.
So, next time you look at that fucking snickers bar, do you want to piss yourself?
Srsly this trick helped me drop 10kg
Yeah. Going in front of a mirror naked, telling myself what a fat, weak and lazy bastard I am, threaten myself to jump of a bridge multiple times a day, helps a lot with my diet. Motherfucker doesn't know that I'm just bluffing.
You know, the body has ways to turn other types of energy into "brain-energy". Read up.
Hence why people can have headaches and other discomfort for like a week or so before the body adjusts this process
Honestly, straight up doing long fasts and eating whatever the fuck you want rest of the days is the best approach. You can read my past threads on my progress on extended fasts. Went from 97 -> 78 (current) in 6 months flat 80% progress was done 2 months in. And never looked better.
I walk past the soft drink and lollies/chips isles on my weekly shop to test my resolve.
My resolve stays strong... right until I see a 50%+ off sale.. then I treat myself. These sales only cone round once every 6 months or more so one pack of smiths.. or 1 4 pack of bundaberg ginger beer is ok.
*inhales copium*

Unfortunately for anon, he should have listened to lizard brain. The Keto diet can make you very, very sick. Studies also show that cutting out bread and other carbs can make you gain weight because your brain thinks you're starving and starts storing as much as possible, thinking you'll go long extents without food.
As someone with autism I already think of my thoughts as coming from different "characters" in my brain subconsciously, the soyjack character method is unironically how I quit nicotine, it works
When I think about eating outside of my diet, I'll just ask myself "Do I really need that? If I don't have this now, will I die?" The answer is always no.
As far as the gym goes, its hard to start a habit but its even harder to break one. Force yourself to make it part of your routine and after a few weeks you'll feel unsatisfied if you skip a day.
I recently switched to low weight high reps. Last week on chest I was doing 25 reps on chest fly for 50 lbs, and when I would start to fail I'd imagine a guy with a gun in front of me and I'd say to myself "I'm gonna kill you if you don't finish this set. I'm gonna end your life if you don't get to 25" and that worked pretty well
During 2021 i did keto for almost the whole year and it was an amazing experience. Now i'm kinda broke and i can't just not eat whatever, but once i find stability again, i'll do some more months on keto.
I truly recommend you to try it at least for one or two month. There's no need to be your whole life on keto (apparently it's no good long term unless you have shcizo problems and such)
I only want to lose a stone to go back to my normal weight I put on in the last year but I just can't stick with it. Half the days I only really look foward to what I'll eat when I get home because nothing else in the day is even remotely enjoyable.
When I'm doing serious keto, any cheating sets me back at least a week before I start losing weight again. So if I can grit my teeth and not falter the first 2 weeks I'm invested. I can tell myself "This candy bar will cost me at least a week of the weight loss I've been suffering for. Is it really worth it?" It makes it easier to stay tough.
Keto is crazy brah, you feel amazing on it but yet somehow this deep sense of missing something lol. Total opposite of quitting caffeine, just feel like shit but don't necessarily crave coffee.
easiest way to diet is to make food you actually like, trendy diets like that are gimmicky, while i'm sure they do work for some people, most people need something sustainable they can follow for the rest of their lives. just learn to cook and make all your favorite foods with lower calorie alternatives to make them better for you
I do the same with my brain if I get too high and I start getting paranoid. I know it is all in my head so I imagine that part of the brain as my monkey brain and every time I get a bit paranoid about something I imagine myself as a monkey going "Ooh!!" And when I am stoned that is very funny and a good reminder to chill tf out and enjoy my high.
back when i was eating acid and mushrooms like a mad man, my mental health was so bad that i was CONVINCED that i could change the amount of serotonin and other chemicals in my brain on command. for example, if i was feeling particularly down one day i would “tell my brain” to make more serotonin and it would actually work and i’d be happy for the rest of the day. i kinda wish i was still abusing drugs just so i could have that level of control over my brain
Keto isn't good for you man
Yes, you'll lose weight, but you will be lacking in extremely important vitamins and energy
Just exercise and eat in moderation ffs
Intermittent fasting did the most for me, eat enough protein and add some workouts. And my brain just stopped with all the nonsense.
Didn't have to diet after that. Just adjusted my lifestyle. But, my body also punishes me a lot harder if I have a drinking night or smash some McDonald's out of convenience.
When you're living day to day @ 50% you get use to it. Once you improve that, you're body let's you know when you put posion into it.
I was the opposite. Keto made me feel so full I could eat one meal a day and not even think about food for the rest. As soon as I started carbs again it was just a constant hunger and cravings.
