Duran Duran's "Out of My Mind" a few months ago.
the melody randomly popped into my head. perhaps i heard it somewhere: radio, a store, TikTok. i knew i liked it when i was younger and was positive it was by a 1990's British alternative band. (and it kind of is!)
couldn't google the exact lyrics at first, but eventually found it and added it to my Spotify playlist.
(haven't listened to it since.)
More like my very early 20s but I was watching The Sopranos (fantastic soundtrack all around) and “Dolphin’s Cry” by Live was featured in an episode. One of Live’s lesser known songs that I liked a lot that I haven’t heard in forever.
Sarah McLachlan’s Vox popped up on a Peloton ride I did last week, and I stopped pedaling for a minute while I had a visceral memory of putting that song on repeat back in 1996 to help me focus on studying for a chemistry test.
It was good / strange to think about how far I’d come and how hard it would be to explain the concept of a Peloton ride to my 16-year-old self.
One for me recently was the instrumental ["Lily Was Here"](https://youtu.be/ypbjIwbTR8c?si=_7qsCCU6yUCaLNAS) by Dave Stewart (and Candy Dulfer on sax). I remember it used to be on the radio all the time in the very early '90s (especially in the morning while I was getting ready for school). Then one day it dropped off the face of the earth. I bet I hadn't heard it in almost 30 years, then it came up on a compilation CD and I was suddenly 10 again.
Nowadays it's more likely a song from then will start playing in the grocery store. I've had a few times where I hear something I forgot about and then catch myself humming along as I shop.
