Help!!!!! 2009 V6 Accord 106k $7000 yes or no?

Need a car, came across a decent looking accord I wanted to hear what the community thinks about it. One owner, clean titile everything looks alright. What kind of reliability can I expect? Sounds like he’s got play in terms of pricing. Any insight would be appreciated! Thanks

At that mileage it's due for the 105k service, timing belt, water pump, pulleys, valve adjustment, spark plugs, coolant flush, brake flush, transmission flush, filters. Costs about $2k. Seller likely received a quote for this maintenance and doesn't want to invest, ask if it has been done, if yes, get documentation that proves it, if no, offer 4500 and use the remainder to get the 105k done.

is 200k km bad on a honda accord then? i just posted a very similar q about a 2009 accord with v6 engine. if it’s possible could you please take a look at it? i am very confused.

I had one, I loved that car, it ran smooth as butter…when it ran. I had to replace the alternator 3 times in the 2 years I owned it. Replaced every single coil at least twice, two new belts (one timing one serpentine belt that exploded), valve cover gasket blew, DRANK oil like it was it’s only job, a few spark plugs replaced too. Only drove it 25,000 miles from 80k to 105 before I prettied it up and sold it to a dealership. Get your valve cover gasket looked at if you have any problems with the alternator or notice any oil on the front side of the engine.

Seems a tad high especially if the timing belt has never been done. Id get a PPI done and then talk to the owner with the findings of the shop. Bare minimum they will say is timing belt, water pump, spark plugs and air filter.

Yeah my friends blew up because of a timing belt
QueenAng429@reddit
Definitely not that high it's average price
Inevitable-Party9925@reddit
That is high on asking price

They’re good cars but have some trans issues and the fuel mileage of my v6 accord was about the same as my v8 mustang so not ideal.
I’d get a 4 cyl perspnally.
PBIS01@reddit
I have an 05 Accord V6 6 speed. It gets 28-30 mpg on the highway. That’s pretty decent. I think the autos are several mpg less.
No-Level9643@reddit
I got like 20-22 tops with my v6 auto sedan. The TL was about the same. My mustang GT was a 5 speed
Arizonagamer710@reddit
Dang, I wish my V8 Mustang got as good as gas mileage as a v6 Accord.

Go get it inspected. The price is fine, so long as you dont have to do any repairs that'll cost more than a few hundred.
Turbulent_Cricket497@reddit
What is blue book value?
refreshmints22@reddit
I had my J35 rear bank reringed due to VCM issues. $5k later in my 08 Odyssey.
Turbulent-Today830@reddit
Id pass; consumer reports rates it 3 outta 5 on reliability.. repair pal says its the top 3 least reliable year from 2000-2010

Good deal

NOPE

Good cars except for the transmissions which are especially problematic in the V6 models. If it hasn't been beaten on, it's probably fine. I would get it looked at before buying.
srt93@reddit
I would say that’s more the 2003-2005 accord v6s that were the most problematic. The ones in the 2009 I think were “mostly” fine. But yes, definitely get it inspected.
OP: if this is an auto accord, I would highly recommend disabling VCM if you decide to purchase this car. You can buy something called VCMuzzler. So it’ll run on 6 cylinders all the time. Also make sure the timing belt was done at some point as the mileage/year indicates it should have been done once already. If it hasn’t been done and/or there’s no receipts or records of it, negotiate that into the price or subtract it from the cost of the car. It’s a critical service that shouldn’t be skipped.
ImReallyFuckingHigh@reddit
Don’t forget late 90s aswell
QueenAng429@reddit
Wrong, the transmission is fine starting in 2008. Don't talk random shit out of your ass
xjamez25@reddit
If it's a manual especially the 6 speed buy it immediately, I have an 07 v6 6speed with 320k on it and she still runs like a dream, but the automatics have been known to have transmission issues so give it a thorough test drive

It’s the kbb price

I really dislike FWD V6 cars. The engine is sideways, with one bank of cylinders back against the firewall. Makes doing any work back there a PITA.
IMO if it's gonna be FWD it needs to be four cylinder.
Drd2@reddit
Have you ever worked on one of these? This J-series engine is great. At 106K, it might need a timing belt and that's it.
NCRaineman@reddit
It's eventually gonna need spark plugs. Maybe an O2 sensor for the rear bank. Still way more difficult to work on than the four cylinder.
QueenAng429@reddit
It's not that hard lol I've done valve adjustments timing belts plugs
__slamallama__@reddit
More difficult than a 4cyl is definitely right. But those v6 accords have a lot of room to work compared to other fwd v6 cars.
That said, I'm pretty sure they also ate through transmissions around that era. And most v6 Honda products tend to eat wheel bearings. OP those would be my biggest concern
dremelgobrrr@reddit
Honda's are fucking easy to access the plugs. Not like a pentastar or ford v6
KithMeImTyson@reddit
It's a pretty good price. My wife has a 08 Accord and it's a great car. Take it into the dealership for oil changes and tire swaps for the first year, then start doing stuff yourself. Honda Techs are the only dealership techs I trust because all the cars are basically the same. They know the good, bad, and ugly and can note it all quickly.
Jack3580@reddit
Not a bad price if its in good condition. Pay for a CARFAX though so you can see what maintenance has been recorded and number of past owners. That is a very common car for young kids and most kids don't take care of their first car
seang86s@reddit
FWIW, my dad was hit by a red light runner back in September (he's ok). Totaled his 2010 Accord V6 w/48K miles. This was the top trim. Got $12.6K for it.
Depending on the trim level and how the Carfax checks out, I'd try for $6K.
Additional_Net_2812@reddit
It’s crazy how well these models hold their value.
Technical_Rub@reddit
Very reliable as long as it hasn't been abused. The price itself may be high or low depending on your area, I'd say shoot for $5k and meet in the middle.
haworthsoji@reddit
They're reliable. That said, if you want to follow the rabbit hole... 3 Most Common Honda 3.5-Liter V6 Engine Problems (motorbiscuit.com)
I think you have the j35z engine.
If I were in your shoes, I'd get a third party inspection and if the inspection is good, I'd negotiate to the best price. I still think the $7k price is decent. I bet he priced it at 7 because of it's condition. Good luck.
