Where are best places to travel in Mexico if you don't care about beach but still like mountains/nature and delicious food/interesting culture ?

I'm thinking Mexico City for the food/culture but not sure from there...
Is Oaxaca played out ? Is it like the Tulum of arts now?

Depends on what your interests are. I find smaller towns away of larger and famous tourist venues like Acapulco, Cabo or Cancun to appeal much more to us... Few favorites are: Mulege Baja South, Todos Santos Baja Sur and even some wonderful Mexico city neighborhoods like Roma, Coyoacan and Xochimilco.

Xochimilco in Oaxaca de Juarez? If so that neighbourhood is wonderful.

Oh maybe you're talking about CDMX, but the Oaxaca one is amazing aswell.

Have family from central Mexico, I'd highly recommend the city of Guanajuato. So much beautiful landscape and culture there. The mummies are a big attraction there but you can get lost in the city all day. Mexico City, Guadalajara, Queretaro, and Morelia are all great cities to visit as well.

Came here to say Guanajuato. My husband and I made an impromptu, unplanned vacation there and it’s easily one of our favorite places. We’re even looking to live there for a year.

Did you do it??
LOLteacher@reddit
I moved to Guanajuato city from the U.S. two years ago on my sister's suggestion, and I just love it! I got my first year's lease on a house with ease: Passport, first and last month in cash, and my mom's email address (as a reference, whom they never contacted).

maybe i know how much and if you speak spanish?
LOLteacher@reddit
3br/2.5ba, started at 14000 MXN/mo. and increased with inflation each year and is now $16600.
I'm not fluent in Spanish, but fully conversational. Sometimes I have to memorize a few terms before heading to the bank or take the cats to the vet :-D.

That's 1k usd?
LOLteacher@reddit
I negotiated this year's lease back to 15000 MXN, so it's less than $800 USD/mo. now.

San Miguel is supposed to be amazing. It’s like the number 1? City in the world. Central Mexico. It’s on my list.

So I spent nine days in San Miguel, but only because a friend of a friend desperately needed a housesitter due to a medical emergency. San Miguel is the Disneyland version of Mexico. Rated #1 by who? The readers of Conde Nast Traveler -- affluent people who stay in boutique hotels, play golf when they travel, don't care about grossly overpaying for meals, and whose idea of local "culture" is a mariachi band playing for tips in a colonial-era square. No thank you.
