This is why I'm working to make 18 wheelers drive themselves and no longer require drivers. Mistakes like this won't happen anymore when i'm done.

I love Dallas and I love Texas. I can say that neither planned for major population growth.

I really hope the truck driver has Reddit and sees this so we can hear their side of the story

Trucker in question here. I saw OP coming up in line so I did this specifically to fuck with them.

I just envisioned you getting out of your car and walking to the truck to have a talk with that driver.

My question is how someone who was there, took a picture, and came on Reddit to blast people idiocy, didn't note the other cars attempting to turn around/slide to a different slot. It's obvious there was a problem with the gate the semi was at, and they had no choice other than to do this. Absolutely clueless, OP.

xenokilla@reddit (OP)

Not quite. I stopped to take the picture before I drove around the back of the truck. All of the other lanes were open. The truck apparently got into the wrong line and realize that it couldn't make it through the car path and so it blocked a third of the Plaza trying to get over to the truck lane.

Happens daily at dfw. Theres a lot of untrained big rig drivers coming from all over the world and large companies like Amazon will contract anyone to haul their goods.

This. A Arnold is a kind of sketch moving company and hires extremely new CDLs with very little guidance. I sympathize with the driver though.

That road is horrible, it goes from a highway straight into airport toll both, the only way to get off is to make a uturn from the left lane of the highway and back around. It’s insane, who ever designed it was a clown

What's up with airports these days? Amirite? I'm being serious! You know, you got your A terminal, B terminal, C terminal. And I'm just like hey, "which is the terminal that gives free mile high club access" Alright thats my time, y'all have been great. Watch out for your corn hole everybody.

I once went through an open gate at DFW thinking the gates were open for some kind of free access, couldn’t get out and had to back out of the lane. It was only when I was with my girlfriend and she told me you could just stick your credit card in any of the lanes and it would still work that I realized I didn’t need to back out and go to a manned toll booth. Sometimes you don’t know what you don’t know
View on Reddit #18274945

ForeverGoBlue33@reddit

But what will they charge you? One time they missed my tag leaving and thought I’d been in the airport for 42 days. Then made me take a ticket on my way in and billed my card $1100+, then just told me to let the incoming ticket run until it could be resolved. Luckily they processed it quickly once I called, but putting in a credit card without knowing how much it’s for seems risky.

New truck driver???
View on Reddit #18276608

KennyDROmega@reddit

Maybe easier just to pay the toll, take the hit on the miles. Feels like whatever penalty the company would hit him with, wouldn't be as bad as him blocking multiple lanes waiting for someone to let him into the turnaround.
View on Reddit #18268942

ADAWG10-18@reddit

I think low clearance is the issue here.
View on Reddit #18269080

Dick_Lazer@reddit

Wouldn't the clearance have been the same on the way in though? I'd think the entrance and exit gates are built to the same specs.
View on Reddit #18275742

KennyDROmega@reddit

Looks like you may be right from the photo, but I feel like there have to be logistics companies that pay the tolls to drive through the airport because it's faster, and surely the airport itself has to have big rigs deliver shit from time to time. Even if neither of those is true, the road engineers never figured a vehicle with high clearance might end up in front of the tolls, or that the disruption might be mitigated by the cost of a few more inches of concrete.
View on Reddit #18269286

ADAWG10-18@reddit

I looked at the streetview of the entrances and there’s a wide lane for buses and trucks in the middle. It looks like this driver wasn’t in the correct lane and is having to move over.

View on Reddit #18272050

dupontcash24@reddit

Cant be sure but it it may not be a height issue but a side clearance issue thru the booths
View on Reddit #18270108

DMH_75032@reddit

Not a clearance issue. My F-450 is the same width as a semi. I can go through the regular lanes. I use the very clearly marked wide lanes. You can read those signs from a long distance. Its not a height issue either. Something else is going on. Was the one of the off-airport freeways closed due to a wreck or something?
View on Reddit #18271990

Throwaway31702@reddit

There are two wide lanes in the middle that CLEARLY state wide/truck lane. Clearance is not an issue as it does double as a toll road and the airport does get truck deliveries itself. My guess is a lack in English comprehension skills.
View on Reddit #18270838

Aleyla@reddit

If you look carefully you’ll notice that it isn’t just this truck. There are other vehicles trying to do the same thing. Something else is going on here.
View on Reddit #18270540

stanley_fatmax@reddit

Best guess.. judging by the other car(s?) turning around, there were broken booths and he had to get to another, but things got out of control with traffic and people trying to get around him that he had to get.. creative. :D
