Whole Home Generator Worth It?

I have been toying with the idea of getting a Generac 22kWh whole home generator for my house, being hooked up to my natural gas line. I am just curious if it is work spending around $12k to purchase and pay to install it.
Is natural gas pretty reliable in most disasters? I am just trying to understand situations where this might not work, and how reliable it would be.

EDIT UPDATE: I live in utah, so summers get in the 100's and winters low teens or single digits, I live in the suburb with .25 acres. I have solar but no battery backup, and I have an electric car and a gas car. So in Utah there is a potential for earthquakes, we had a tornado once, drought, etc.
