2005 Buick Lesabre transmission solenoid issues, $600 fix worth it?

I have a 2005 Buick Lesabre Limited with 180,000 miles on it. We've owned it since new and had relatively few issues in the long run, Buicks are notably solid daily drivers and we've kept up on regular maintenance with it. Within the last two years I've been experiencing shifting issues within the automatic transmission around 1500 rpm when I first gain some motion in the car. It feels like the transmission stalls the shift, turning what should be a smooth automatic shift into a small but noteable jerk. A computer scan from a local mechanic turned up the transmission solenoid going out. Most mechanics will either want to replace the transmission entirely or quote it as not worth the effort to fix. Regardless, the mechanic stated he'd be willing to replace it for $600 which sounds like a solid offer, but also prefaced that in general its not a huge issue and I can still get a decent amount of use and life out of the car regardless of that fix. The question I have; is this fix worth it? I'd love to get as much life out of this Buick as possible but on the other hand, the cost to replace the solenoid is around half what the car is worth at this point. Would it be better just to ride it out or would it be worthwhile to pay up and get it fixed?
tl;dr: Buick Lesabre transmission solenoid is going out. With 180,000 miles and a value around $1200, is a $600 fix even worth it for a couple more years of use?

It’s going to be hard to replace, the market is whack. Fix

You're so right I'm not going to post anymore about this but the used car market is in flux. That 3.8 3800 Buick V6 is gold so said my mechanic this morning. I was frustrated and thought 800 to $1,000 was a lot of money which it is however!! You are not going to find a better vehicle if the rest of it is decent for anything less than eight or $9,000 anymore even those are suspect. Keep her running!!

I would say yes. That's like 2 months worth of a new car payment, and there's no way you could find a comparable car with the same history that you know of all the issues for 1200 bucks. If you got just6 more months out of the car it's worth it.

You're right!

Also keep in mind that no matter how many more miles you put on that car, or how many years go by, if it still runs and drives, it's still worth $1,200

I'd say a resounding fix that solenoid! Not to harp on this okay yes I'm going to harp on this. Those other vehicles 2010 to 20 25 have a CVT transmission and spending 10 to 25,000 on one of those with a transmission that could likely go out costing upwards to 5 $6,000 isn't worth it. Keep that baby going we love our Buicks! Hahaha

I have had the same problem just recently. Took her in today it's the solenoid. BB as I call her, only has 127,000 mi spins like a top and I believe the $800 fix is worth it. Have you seen how expensive used cars have gotten? Talk to the mechanic and he said yeah that engine can go 300K so get her fixed Polish her up and keep her going that's what I say!

Did the fix work if so what did he do??
