That's literally not even minimum wage in some cities, but there are a lot of people who really want to drive the wiener mobile and not a lot of wiener mobiles to go around.
Yeah all these people are kind of overstating min wage. A large amount are still at federal which is $7.25...
That's about $17,000.
Even Washington with the highest min wage is $33,000.
>A large amount are still at federal which is $7.25...
Not really, though. As of last year, fewer than 100,000 people in the US earned the federal minimum wage. The median individual income is about $19/hr. So at least half the population earns more than that, and most of the other half earns over minimum wage.
The number of people in the US that would actually be impacted by a federal minimum wage hike would be tiny, unless the minimum wage hike was huge, which (let's face it) isn't likely to happen any time soon.

On one hand, yes, they really need to be made to understand just how terrible incomes are for most people compared to expenses. On the other hand, that particular idea would just make it impossible for people who don't already have money to become members of Congress, and it would make essentially no difference to the income current members of Congress enjoy.
The real issue isn't the fact that they make $175k or whatever, it's the fact that they do so much insider trading that their real incomes tend to be more like eight figures. Personally, I feel that members of Congress should be barred from trading completely, with the exception of putting their money into a blind trust. They should have no idea what stock they actually own, and they certainly should not have any input on that. All they should know is what value their stocks have.
Minimum wage in Washington for 40 hours a week would be $33,862.40 a year before taxes.
It's pretty normal to work more than 40 hours a week so... yeah. A bit ridiculous to expect someone to have a college degree to drive a funny looking GM truck chassis and talk to people.
Washington D.C. has a minimum wage of $17/hour, which equates to $35,360 a year. Washington (state), New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Connecticut, California, and Maryland all have minimum wages at or above $15/hour.
>Applicants can expect a base salary of $35,600, according to the job listing. Other benefits include a a weekly allowance of $150 (or $7,200 for the year) for meals and personal travel, 18 days of paid time off, a full health benefits package, and 100% of hotel expenses covered.
Honestly, if you're traveling the whole year. This might not be that bad for a young single person, especially if they cover full health. I assume that's their target employee. $40k a year to pimp around in the wiener mobile, they cover all hotels? This would be a tempting offer if I was 23 and fresh out of college.
Imagine being so bad with money you can't figure out how to spend less than $150 a week on food for one person. You ever seen how much bananas cost? They're like 25 cents a piece.
This is also the $ the company is giving you for food. My job now, I pay for all my own food lol. So $150 for what the company pays for isn't that bad.
The job essentially covers rent, food, and healthcare, with an added bonus of 35k on top that. Rent and food are by far my two largest bills, and I don't even get healthcare from my current job. This is legitimately a really nice gig if you're fresh out of college and want to travel around. Reddit just loves to read headlines and complain.
10 pack of Oscar Mayers Wieners is $3.

50 packs a week.

3 meals a day, 7 days a week.

Thats two packs per meal and you still have enough Weens leftover for your yearly BBQ with your cardiologist, gastroenterologist, and enema technician to show you what they have bought with your hard earned wages.
$30 a day ain't hard. It's not luxury eating, and probably requires some forethought, but not impossible by any means. Some people don't really care about what they eat, so eating the same bland thing wouldn't bother them at all.
If we're aiming at the *average* American, I would be more inclined to agree. Even you yourself immediately went to fast food.
But if you take the time to plan it out, it's not hard in the least. You can cook some pretty solid meals in a hotel microwave. It's all about nonperishables, leftovers and not eating to excess.
Hell if you Google "feeding for 150 a week" most of the articles are on feeding families for that much a week.
Thanks for coming to my Ted talk
Jesus, how do you do that? I give my wife $250 per week for groceries and I know she's spending other money on groceries too. And it's mostly just the two of us (we have a baby but she's just starting food). And that budget is just for the stuff she cooks at home. When we eat out that comes out of totally different money.
My goal before my partner moved in was to slim it to <$10 a day, because racecar. But damn having a good cook and learning to cook well really fucked that up.
The reason I went to fast food was because I assumed it was a situation where you pay for it yourself first, and the company reimburses you for it after. In that situation, I've found that most companies only reimburse you for actual meals, and not groceries.
If they're giving you a flat $150 a week, then I agree that you can get creative and stretch it quite a ways.
A Weinermobile came to my local grocery store once. The guy set up outside and was letting people ask questions about it.
If I'm remembering correctly, the Wienermobile has a bed inside. Whether they like to use that or prefer to use hotels I have no clue. Personally I'd choose the hotels (especially nice ones) since they're paid for, but I imagine if your job is driving around in such a vehicle it might start to feel like home after a while.
They still have beds in them.
In 2019, one was offered as an AirBNB.
https://www.insider.com/you-can-now-spend-the-night-in-oscar-mayers-wienermobile-2019-7
I bet there's an opportunity to get a couple of free hot dogs in there. Just guessing.
Truck almost certainly has a power outlet in it, so you can do some stuff with an instant pot or the like as well. Probably has a fridge too, so you can store some stuff. Or crockpot in your hotel room overnight and pack it with you. Nothing fancy, but you can get by.
Eating at restaurants? It would be tight and not even remotely healthy, but technically possible. I don't want fast food for every meal, and it's difficult to be economical without a stove or oven available.
That's how my company used to do it. You were alloted $30/day because they included the free continental breakfast as one of your meals. So $15 per meal per day. If you like eating anything that's not fast food, you're fucked.
Hell right now if you're eating fast food you're still pretty fucked at that rate. A chicken sandwich combo from Wendy's is like 11 bucks plus tax, you'd basically have to eat off the equivalent of the dollar menu at any fast food joint you went to.
> A chicken sandwich combo from Wendy's is like 11 bucks plus tax, you'd basically have to eat off the equivalent of the dollar menu at any fast food joint you went to.
How so? He said $15 per meal per day, so that's two of those combos a day, with $8 left over.
Ahhh that's what I get for reading too quickly, I thought it was 15/day not per meal which now that I think of it I should have known the math didn't add up. But also that $150 stipend really would have to go for 7 days not 5, so it would end up just under 11/meal (assuming free meals at the hotel each morning).
I loved a lot of my life eating out for literally every meal. I wasn't doing it as cheap as I could. But it cost me about $20-30k per year.
So yeah, unless they give you a per diem you'll probably just end up eating your salary.
They said maintaining the Wienermobile is part of the job.
If that means I can feasibly put a junkyard turbo LS in it without getting immediately terminated, I'd take that job lmao
Imagine buying a brand new GR86 or something and getting gapped by a hot dog.
>If that means I can feasibly put a junkyard turbo LS in it without getting immediately terminated, I'd take that job lmao

Hey uh bill what's this purchase order for "haltech"
How many guys can say that pull up to a tinder date in the fucking Wienermobile? Someone could totally shoot bang bus style videos in that thing (on the side) and make a fortune on only fans.. once you’re fired, that content will easily bring in more than $35k a year.
In California they can't require a degree for a job that doesn't need one, and driving something is not a specialist job, no matter how many people are trying to figure out who did this.
"...traveling an average of 20,000 miles, visiting more than 20 states and handing out 250,000 Wiener Whistles during the year, the company says. They also create content for the brand’s social media channels."
in case you thought it was gonna be cushy
College degree holding over the road trucker/social media manager for $35k is actually the most over the top fucked job posting I've ever heard. You can easily make 3x that doing just the driving part with no education.
I feel that at this point, a four year degree is used as a vetting process to ensure someone can actually read and write and follow instructions. It's far too common for people to squeak through high school for no reason other than showing up 66% of the time
My degree had almost no relevance to anything I did in my consulting job, and technically the role required a Bachelor's, which would've been another 2 years of irrelevant studies.
A lot of jobs just... want it, just because. Granted they were billing $300/hr for my time to clients, so I guess it helps your image to say they're all at the very least college educated.
It doesn't. It's just a paper. I ended up having to go back to college just because, there is nothing I learned from it that justified the absolute pain in the ass and annoyance I went through working and studying at the same time just so I could get the fucking thing.
Employers will only pay what they need to retain employees, no less no more. They don't need to suck dicks since they get their dicks sucked daily by mealy mouth politicians, esp. the right-wing brand of sycophant. We need people in government to represent us, for reals this time.
Eh, 20,000 miles isn't really that much. Average person drives 13,500 a year and I'd rather 20k probably-highway miles than 13k city commute miles.
I haven't got the hang of content creation yet, though
I also feel like I could make 35k elsewhere without a degree. Or three times that with a degree.
If they had offered good money, imagine the publicity that would get in the news and how much money they would make off of sales just from that publicity. Instead, they're embarrassing themselves.
I understand. Kinda like the success Costco has in part because it is understood that they treat their employees well. I don't believe the weiner-mobile situation has the same gravitas.
i like how the bachelor degree basically turned into the modern day high school diploma around 20 years ago
absolutely ridiculous the # of jobs that require it but in reality all you need is on the job training
Well, it's $35,600 in salary. Then you get $7,200 in food, and then all housing paid for. Average 1 br apartment in the US is about [$1,200/mo](https://www.statista.com/statistics/1063502/average-monthly-apartment-rent-usa/). So that's another $14,400.
All in you're looking at $57,200 for the year.
It’s less awful when you don’t have to pay rent but you also have nowhere to call home, which is a little sad. What do you do with all your stuff?
Idk. It’s not for me. If I was fresh out of school and didn’t know what I was going to do with my life, it might be fun for a year.
I think it's intended to be an internship for younger people. Not a single person in the picture looks to be over the age of 30, and there's certainly not a single person in their 40s.
I think it would be fun for a young person fresh out of college who might otherwise want to take a gap year or scratch that \#vanlife itch without the upfront expenses.
Yeah, I thought this was just an intern position. In that sense it’s not terrible, especially if you’re a marketing major. I imagine “Wienermobile driver” stands out on a resume.
That's why I'm saying. You basically get free food and rent PLUS 35k on top. Rent and food are my two largest bills, and I don't even make 35k at my current job. If you're okay with that lifestyle, this sounds like a pretty decent gig if you ask me.
People are missing this point. There are tons of people graduating with Marketing degrees that would kill to make $57k in their field. Is it much in the way salaries in general? No, but it sure beats struggling to find a job and settling for something completely different because they realized that Marketing is an extremely competitive and poorly compensated industry.
That's really insulting. With all of the money that company has, to offer pennies for a full time brand ambassador job like that and requiring a college degree is embarrassing.
Neckbeard redditors don't read the article, just see 35k and be like what this doesn't pay 100k+ with a free hooker every weekend and it requires a bachelors degree?? A bachelors degree doesn't mean shit anymore lol. I have a bachelors and still don't make anywhere close to this salary plus benefits.
It was the pacecar for a Gridlife event.

35k plus food stipend and living expenses paid. I have a bachelors, don't make 30k, and also don't get free food and living expenses from my current job. This actually sounds like a great gig if you're fresh out of college and want to travel. You basically have your two biggest bills paid then get 35k on top of that. Y'all are not reading the article and making this out to be worse than it is.
Its a bonus if you already have a degree and nowhere else to work.
Im not going to go get a bachelors just to have a (probably fun and opportunity and fairly compensated) job that very obviously doesnt require one technically. I guarantee I could outperform any of the ones they hire this year.
While the salary is laughable, it's basically getting paid to road trip the country.
How many people take a gap year after college to just travel, and they're not getting paid... I'd rather get paid and have everything covered.
Assuming you can chuck all your stuff in your parents garage and not have rent, it's not as absurd as it first comes across when you see that comical salary
