High hook, Damn

I'm at a stop in the middle of no where Iowa, driver across the street is moving tractors around, unhooked 1 from a Flatbed stuck that one in a garage, jumped in another move the dry van it was attached to, then dropped the van and went to hook that one up to the Flatbed, welp.... high hooks happen.... Did I take a picture? NO! I got out of my damn truck and helped get it straighten out, like the good damn professional truck driver I am, absolutely no reason we always have to take pictures on shit that can, has or will happen to any of us, knock that shit off.

30% of the containers at the rail yard. 60% if they're 20' containers. I'd be taking a lot of pictures, and loosing time. Just go. Get to cranking! Shiiiiiiiiitt, if the legs move smoothly, and the gearbox isn't tough to crank, that's already doing great for containers. Too high isn't an issue anyway, 40k lbs in a 20' box that's too low can eat a bag of dicks. Crank it in low gear, still need most of your body weight into it, get it high enough to get the frame of the truck under it with dumped airbags then raise it on the frame first then dump the air again and try to get the 5th wheel under it. And sometimes it's raining or cold too. 😂😂 Whatever, just do it and go. I agree. I'm tryna get paid and go home ASAP.

I, for one, never wanna hit another truck for any reason or anything, so I safety GOAL every time I back I don't care how many super truckers are watching me. Or how many times I need to step out to look. I'm sure I've been the laughing stock at multiple truck stops, but I don't care I'm sure I've been recorded a time or two.

I keep a chunk of a 4x4 in my tool box. I’ve had a few high hooks recently so that helps me get out of it quick. Dump the tractor suspension, level the skid plate, and roll forward🤷🏻‍♂️ it happens to everyone at some point

I local and drop and hook 10+ times a day. High hooks are just a daily thing. The worse one though, was I had to take a sleep, and I hadn't been in a sleep in a LONG time. No back window to look at things, lol. Anyway, jumped the fifth wheel and spent the next 45 mins rooting through trash cans trying to find a a bottle I could prop the fifth wheel with. Fun times! And lesson learned.

I’m paranoid freak. I stop and GOAL every time I hook a trailer just to see if the trailer height isn’t too low or too high. It’s wrong often enough that it seems to be almost a necessary habit.
