Which skincare brands/products do you swear by?

I'm 27M and only just starting to take an interest in skincare routines. Right now I use a Neutrogena face-wash and I moisturise with Aveeno which I absolutely love. I'm trialling Lumin but I'm not convinced, especially because of how expensive it is. Which are your favourite brands and products and what genuinely works for you? (I prefer to keep it simple, have fewer products but ones that are effective, and not ones that cost loads)

I tend to do micellar water, The Ordinary hyaluronic acid serum and (my splurge) Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream with SPF30 in the mornings, then the basic Boots retinol moisturiser at night. Seems to do the job and crucially for me, doesn't cause massive breakouts or dry spots if I slack off for a few days. The Kiehl's is pricey (£35 for a small pot) but I use it pretty sparingly and it can usually be picked up closer to £25 in the duty free if you're travelling. It's also balanced out by everything else being cheap! I'll also second the Nuxe Huile Prodigeuse. I don't know that it gives me any major cosmetic benefits, but putting it on when I've just got out of the shower before getting ready to go out makes me feel amazing. Again, it's cheaper if you can get in France/Europe, so I tend to stock up then.

I use the Body Shop Vitamin E range (face wash, cleanser, toner, day cream and night cream). I use their charcoal facemask about once a month. I'm in the UK, I don't know if it's available elsewhere. I also use 50+ sunscreen every day (even when it's dark and miserable weather) I have pretty good skin I think, even though I live in a city. I wear makeup only rarely, I think that helps. I read an article a long time ago from a dermatologist that said you basically just need to stay hydrated and protect from the sun, so that's what I try to do. I didn't save the article, but it's stayed with me.

Cerave face wash is brilliant at clearing up the skin and isn't drying. Their moisturiser works without being irritating. Both items are quite expensive, around £10 - £12, but they do last for several weeks.

In my early 20s when I cared about my skin I swore by L’Oréal Men Expert, that range is good. I just use the charcoal face wash now

I honestly just only use the ordinary now it’s affordable and lasts a while and I have very sensitive skin and it works like a dream

I tend to keep it simple and moisturise etc "when my other half tells me I should" . But I would shout out for L'Oreal who do a tiny tube of something for bags under your eyes that, as I hit my 50s, seems pretty damned miraculous. And even more so a japanese brand I was recommended "Hada Labo Tokyo Lotion No 1" - I got a 150ml pump bottle of what looks and feels like just plain water but one pump of just a few drops into the palm of my hand, then dab it with a fingertip onto dry skin areas and it has completely fixed a persistent area of dry skin that I had and is great for preventing post shave redness. And at this rate, one pump shot every few days to do my whole face, well I've been using it for 6 months and I'm pretty sure I'm not going to need to buy another for quite some time

By far the biggest thing you can do for your skin is protect it from sun damage. That'll do more for skin long term than any product. Get a moisturiser with SPF in it and wear that year round. I tend to use Nivea or Bulldog, as they're not too expensive and widely available. In summer, wear suncream on top of that and avoid getting burned at all costs. I wear factor 50 because I'm so fair skinned I can get burned just thinking about the sun. Secondary to that, stay hydrated. I have good skin, to the extent it gets noted by people not infrequently. My routine has never been anything more than washing my face in cold water and moisturising morning and night. But what I have always been is incredibly careful about the sun and I've always drunk lots of water. I think that's probably done more for my skin than any product.
