Was talking about dune buggies and I was mocked for pronouncing it as June

Neither. More like Djune. June, but with a 'D' sound combined with the 'J'.

Dy-oon which said fast enough sounds like June. If it was supposed to rhyme with Moon it would be spelled that way. Just like tune is pronounced Ty-oon which sounds like Choon and not Toon.

It rhymes with June for Brits and soon for Americans, are your friends American?

Rhymes? Both of those words rhyme in a southern UK accent... Where are you from that they don't? I think OP's question is whether the initial D is pronounced hard, as a D, or soft as a J

Definitely to rhyme with June. Doon is an American pronunciation I think

Yeah I probably wrote it wrong as Doon, your way looks a better way

They were saying Dyoon rather than June, not Doon

TIL Americans pronounce Dune as Doon. I would say Doon Buggy but Sand Dune because I've never really thought about what a 'Doon Buggy' was and never heard it pronounced any differently (I guess American TV/Film are my only references). Thankfully I don't think I've ever said Doon Buggy out loud cause how embarrassing!!

Sand dune is closer to june than to doon in British English.

Dune. But then I also say *Jay-zed* and *Zed Zed Top* so what do I know.

Christ. You people invent a language with no rules and then obsess over pronouncing things “correctly”. Meanwhile you can’t even say “mom” correctly.

To be quite honest I probably say 'une', because in the phrase 'sand dune' it's easy to elide the 'd' of 'sand' with the 'd' of 'dune'.

Neither, I pronounce it "dyoon".
