Dammit. I wish I knew about this one. I bought the 5” 10mm with the silly ass LPA sight. I specifically wanted a bear gun which this thing would do much better at.
Mine is the tits though. Nice accuracy, great internals, trigger is crisp but not light. I have been having some failures to go into battery, but I’m thinking a stiffer recoil spring is in order. Damn thing chucks brass 15 feet over my right shoulder. Spring ought to clear up both problems.
Love 10mm but if you need it for actual bear defense and not hypothetical justification to add one, get a Glock or a FN. If you’re gonna rock the ten for the woods, you need capacity. If you want real fuck a grizzly up energy from a handgun, .44 mag is the bottom of the ladder and solid to start.
That’s how energy works. Bigger bullet mean less bullets. Bigger bullet do more work than smaller bullets. For actual bear defense, 12ga slug is what you want. A big bore revolver is ideal to back it up but a double stack 10mm is lighter and gives you some real firepower to defend yourself in said situation. Double stack. That word is very important. You won’t have a chance to reload when a big angry brown is actually rushing you.
8rd capacity. I've got the RIA 8rd version of their "ultra" which looks similar (full size, not carry), and it's a sweet shooting caliber in this platform.
For a bear gun, I'd rather have a glock (which is what I bought). Lighter, higher capacity.
Just one note on bobtails: your selection of grips is more limited.
Tisas 1911's are fine, mine has been fired plenty, failed never. It's unrefined, it's not high end, it fits all aftermarket stuff: it's a beater gun and that's what makes it fantastic.
While true on the grips, the Ed Brown bobtail cut is the most common one, so you can still get pretty much any configuration of grip you want if the provided G10 ones aren't your style.
