Personal GMAIL to M365 Business migration?

Hi, I was wondering if any of you folks have experience with *Personal* Gmail to M365 Business migration. Microsoft docs focus on WOrkspace->M365 and make no mention of Personal Gmail migration flow. I would greatly appreciate help with the following questions:  1. What is the best way to preserve the categories of: "*Primary*" VS "*Promotions*" VS "*Social*" tabs From what I understand - correct me if I am wrong - these ("Primary", "Promotions", "Social" tabs) should transfer as labels. So, can I create label views that would replicate corresponding tab views in GMAIL? IIUC, I can also make labels transfer as folders, but that will inflate the box size, correct?  2. Does migrating personal GMAIL differ from Google Workspace? Microsoft's directions mention doing stuff via Google Admin panel, but personal GMAIL accounts do not have that.  3. Will doing the migration steps erase stuff from my GMAIL box? I backed it up via Takeout, but I'd like to preserve it fully anyway in case migration goes wrong - to be able to retry it again and also to preserve live/online access to all mail between devices. Sounds like you're doing this for just one mailbox? Open up a copy of outlook and add the source Gmail and destination 365 account. Drag and drop the folders as applicable. Job done. Don't overcomplicate it.

Several old mailboxes with a lot of mail. I need to preserve online access for all that mail, not just one local copy on the desktop. If I "Open up a copy of outlook and add the source Gmail and destination 365 account", won't it just create a local copy on the machine without that mail being properly migrated to my M365 tenant?

No, it won't, provided that you connect both accounts using IMAP rather than POP3. As others have said, connect both accounts using IMAP, drag and drop or copy paste emails from your Gmail to your Microsoft account. Easy peasy.

You need to attach both accounts as imap, that means the emails still reside in the server. So you copy emails and their headers from Google to your m365 account. I did it the other way from Microsoft to Gmail in Mozilla Thunderbird.

Okay, so copy and paste. It'll sync up. Sounds like you should get a consultant - if your not familiar with how outlook syncs you probably shouldn't be doing this, you're liable to lose the mail permanently.

Hire a consultant just for a personal email migration to a custom domain service? I am not a company. 🙄 I'll figure it out. Thanks for your help.

It sucks. I did it myself. For myself. I didn't want to pay for Google so I moved to o365.. the biggest pain in the ass will lie in your tags. Each tag acts as a folder, and you will have duplicates. Still cleaning up dupes from 2 years ago.
