Speaker cone repair/replace Roland/Boss MA-12 Speaker
I recently purchased these two Boss MA-12 studio monitors off eBay. I already have a pair of the beige Roland MA12s that are identical and love them.
As it turns out, despite them being marked as functional, one of them does not work. The first one works, it just needed some cleaning of the pots and everything is good, sounds fantastic.
The second one does not produce any sound at all. It does power on and the LED comes on, but there is no hiss or pop, even when turning the potentiometers. I opened up the speaker and looked around, everything is looking good. There are no disconnected wires. All of the capacitors visually look OK. No obvious bad solder joints.
I am an amateur tinkerer with electronics, but I have never really worked on speakers before. I did look at the speaker cone itself, and I measured the resistance across the terminals, except my multimeter just displays “OL”, which, to my understanding means the speaker cone is completely dead. My other speaker measures five point something ohms across the terminal, which seems to correspond with the 6ohm marking on the back of the speaker cone itself.
I would love to get the speaker working again. My limited amount of reading makes it seem like it is not really possible to repair the cone. Question I have is how do I go about finding an appropriate speaker cone to replace in this unit? my limited amount of reading makes it seem like it is not really possible to repair the cone. I tried googling the numbers on the back of it, but were on successful.
Thanks in advance
