ULPT: How can I get a visa gift turned into cash or transferred into my bank account?
Posted by BlueDreamCatcher09@reddit | UnethicalLifeProTips | View on Reddit | 155 comments
Title. I have a large amount of money on a gift card from Christmas that I’d like to know if I can take it somewhere for cash or somehow transfer it to my bank.
JoshTylerClarke@reddit
Add the card to Venmo and load the balance to Venmo. Then withdraw it to your debit card or bank account.
Big-Contribution4790@reddit
No can do. Kaput.
Ok-Abbreviations3042@reddit
I did that once with some VISA gift cards I got for Christmas, and Venmo permabanned me for suspicious activity. I’ve spent the last several years trying to explain what happened and appealing the ban in every possible way, but they say that’s a violation of terms and refuse to budge. I’ve been hoping some new app will come along and make Venmo irrelevant, but alas everyone still wants to use it.
Boomah422@reddit
Yes venmo is owned by PayPal, the same people that charge you $2500 if you break their terms of service (AUP)
Shitty horrible company. Also waiting on replacements but they do so much lobbying in smaller 2/3rd world countries to have a monopoly there that it won't happen for a lot of time.
supsicious_attic@reddit
How do they enforce that fee for TOS? I got banned awhile back for cashing prepaid Mastercards via request yourself pay as guest select goods and services worked like a charm
Boomah422@reddit
They won't come after your linked payment methods but if you had any money up to $2500 in your account which I did ($1600) they literally debit it from your account as a "payment for AUP violation"
Timbo2510@reddit
Venmo banned me too for other reasons. But have you tried Cashapp?
Dasrule@reddit
If it has a pin option you should be able to do cash back at Walmart
Oddity-Prime@reddit
It’s not working there
inmysouliamfree@reddit
When I pay with the vanilla visa gift card and enter a pin it does ask me for cash back. Did you experience a situation where you entered an amount in cash back and it declined the transaction?
Oddity-Prime@reddit
Actually no, it didn’t ask for cash back. I’m gonna have to just try that - cash back.
inmysouliamfree@reddit
Yes. After you swipe the Vanilla Visa it should ask you for a PIN number. After you enter the pin it should ask for cash back on that same screen you entered the PIN number on and select the amount.
I believe this works because the cash back gets added onto the order at checkout and is added to the total of the order. It’s one single transaction that would just show up as “Walmart” or whatever grocery you try this at.
I just buy something small so I can drain the card with the cash back at checkout. I recommend to do this at a self checkout too bc if an employee sees it’s a gift card they may tell you it’s not allowed even though it works just fyi.
Oddity-Prime@reddit
Damn, I’m gonna try this again!! Thank you!!
modern_julius@reddit
Did it work?
randomdude99777@reddit
That does not work trust me
modern_julius@reddit
I actually figured out how to do this. Works with every prepaid, vanilla Blackhawk pathward etc
randomdude99777@reddit
Oh yeh , how's that pretty sure either get vanilla every week andnit has never worked doing cashback
modern_julius@reddit
I haven't tested this for every company, but it works with all Circle K gas stations and should work with any gas station that allows cash back. You go inside and tell the cashier you'd like $1 gas on any pump. Doesn't matter which. On the POS terminal you then get prompted for cash back. Circle K limit is $40. You choose $40, enter the pin you set and because of the way gas purchases are handled (they're regulated) the transaction bypasses the prepaid's card restriction for "no cash/ATM access". When the cashier hands you your $40, you can then tell them to cancel the $1 gas or you can leave it for the next lucky Joe.
Automatic_Antelope_8@reddit
did you try this yourself and did it work?
modern_julius@reddit
Yes.
Automatic_Antelope_8@reddit
i'm going to try it right now i'll let you know
ConfidenceGlum5130@reddit
did it work
modern_julius@reddit
Let me know which gas station and what card type (pathward, Blackhawk, visa, mc, vanilla etc) and if it works
modern_julius@reddit
Let me know which gas station and what card type (pathward, Blackhawk, visa, mc, vanilla etc) and if it works
Swimming-Drama-4854@reddit
Did this work for you at Walmart?
4wheelsandsomewood@reddit
did u try
Spadeninja@reddit
Is it a visa gift card?
If so it’s basically as good as cash for the most part.
Use it to pay some bills or necessities or a PS5 or whatever you want.
lettuceman_69@reddit
This is the unethical tips subreddit. They know they can use it as normal, but that’s not what’s asked. Why respond with anything other than an answer to the question?
Spadeninja@reddit
Because there is nothing unethical needed lmao
I think op is confused about what those visa gifts cards are
This is like posting “How can I fill my car with gas” in unethical life pro tips
Like… why do you need an unethical and more complicated solution?
w1ndnd@reddit
You are thinking in the scope of just one gift card. OP could be talking about 15+ gift cards he may have received at a birthday or wedding. Trying to remember/track all the balances across different providers would be a pain. Easier to just transfer to his account Just one example
efolden1290@reddit
I disagree because it is very difficult trying to spend the exact amount on the card so you don't waste anything. A $100 gift card turns into $90-99 because you rarely get the true value trying to buy something
anyuzx@reddit
I think you need to google "manufactured spending" lol
spider-nine@reddit
Drug dealers don’t accept credit cards
TTVzegral@reddit
bro i want weed so bad with this $200 visa lmao
Place-O-Warship@reddit
Lol mine will take a prepaid visa 🤣
Maerialist@reddit
Add it to Venmo then transder to bank account
souissss@reddit
this doesn't work, venmo declines the payment
TheBlueking209@reddit
Make a stripe account and send the money there and put it in your bank account
Legal_Cod6310@reddit
did this not knowing i have to wait over a week to transfer the funds ;//
TheBlueking209@reddit
Also. It’s they take a percentage for instant payouts
TheBlueking209@reddit
New Stripe users aren’t automatically eligible for Instant Payouts. You can check your eligibility in the Dashboard or using the Balances API.
There is a daily limit for Instant Payouts, and the reset time depends on your region. You can only add an eligible Instant Payout method once.
The first payout is usually available seven days after you add your bank account and make your first successful payment on Stripe.
TheBlueking209@reddit
Yea should have explained the first couple of transactions you have to wait but I think after the 3rd 9e 4th they’ll allow instant cash out to a bank card or account

snksleepy@reddit
Buy yourself a card swiper for your phone. They cost under $10. Then use the GC to buy something from yourself.
NSFWbroughtMe@reddit
just use the square app. they have an option to put in the card info manually. no need for a card swiper
anyuzx@reddit
Won't you need to pay taxes if doing this?
MintTea88@reddit
THANK YOU. I have been spending all week trying to figure out how to get cash from my visa gift cards the cheapest way possible. This is it.
Smol_baker86@reddit
Did this end up working with you without no issues? :D
MintTea88@reddit
It worked perfectly. Very small fee, just a few dollars on $200 in gift cards.
WLLBLSSTN@reddit
Hey I was wondering how you managed to pull it off with square? I tried to convert my visa gift card to cash using square, but square flagged it as fraudulent/suspicious. The amount is stuck in my square balance and I’m unable to transfer it to my bank account. Square recommends I refund it but now there’s an error saying refund failed.
MintTea88@reddit
Oh dang I just did it, never had an error. Did it work itself out?
WLLBLSSTN@reddit
Nope, Square ended up deactivating my account and my funds are now held for 90 days. It’s so stupid
ApeInTheTropics@reddit
Sorry you had to go through this and I hope it gets resolved quick. Even if it doesn't. If it makes you feel only a hair better, one time I used a gift card trading subreddit here and someone ended up taking the card and not sending the cash. They used fake verified transactions and proof and I fell for it. Anyway I appreciate you posting this comment with your experience to help the fellow human out.
WLLBLSSTN@reddit
Yeah no worries. Hopefully more people see this. Square isn’t the most reliable and there’s no guarantee it’ll work for you. Also, their customer service is horrible.
I’ve applied for a chargeback on my card so I can get my funds faster. I guess I’ll just use the gift card to pay for other for now. I tried sending myself money to another PayPal account but it wouldn’t work.
DieHardRealist@reddit
Did you find another solution to get the money?
FadingHeaven@reddit
Did you get your funds back after 90 days? I'm in a similar situation now. Filled out all my info, but I still have to wait for them to make a decision.
WLLBLSSTN@reddit
I was afraid Square wouldn’t release my funds so I opened a dispute through the visa gift card portal. Square doesn’t have chargeback fees so I was able to get all my funds back to my visa gift card. Ended up using the gift card on day to day purchases.
Little-Swordfish1026@reddit
Hello can i use the square app to cash the visa into my bank account or but something else the visa card is basically useless if that works that would be very helpful
MintTea88@reddit
That's what I did.
Routine_Invite_3156@reddit
does any other app like that exist cause it is not supported in my country unfortunately
MintTea88@reddit
I don't know of anything else, I'm sorry.
IveKnownItAll@reddit
Google. There are literally kiosks that buy your gift cards. Nothing unethical at all.
Weary_Belt@reddit
False stop spreading misinformation asswipe
Live-Championship699@reddit
Add the card to PayPal, then send the money from 1 PayPal to a 2nd PayPal. Then you can send it to your bank account. There's a fee to do so though.
This is how I transfer money from zippay 😀
Short_Heart_9991@reddit
As of April 2024 this is no longer possible..source:paypal.com
gryponyx@reddit
What's not possible still?
kotisbroken@reddit
You might have luck by creating a donation link and using the card on that. But if that doesn't work Stripe is the only method I know that works consistently.
Im_not_crying_u_ar@reddit
Even easier. Make your PayPal a business PayPal and invoice yourself. Then you can pay for it with any card
SillyStrungz@reddit
Yeah this is somewhat tedious but I always just send myself an invoice and get the funds that way
gryponyx@reddit
Does this still work?
Im_not_crying_u_ar@reddit
Also an easy way of consolidating any small left over amounts on credit cards if you’re broke but have a bunch of CCs with like 10 on one and 5 on the other etc
Kindly-Joke-909@reddit
You can also send invoices without being a business account.
gryponyx@reddit
Does this still work?
Im_not_crying_u_ar@reddit
Ohhh I didn’t realize that
Timbo2510@reddit
Tried it before. There's hella fees
cce29555@reddit
Would you get flagged doing this enough times? I feel like this would violate laundering laws
moomooraincloud@reddit
You would def get flagged and shut down by PayPal.
anonareyouokay@reddit
It's not money laundering, but you would almost certainly get a 1099 and be expected to pay taxes on it.
BluBeams@reddit
🤔 all the good info is always in the comments. I have zippy and never thought to do this.
Tasteesmell@reddit
That method doesn’t always work, it depends on the type of card.
Live-Championship699@reddit
Nevermind, I thought it said visa card
SparklesIB@reddit
The title does say Visa.

A lot of people are misinformed 🤣 the idea is to turn credit I to cash. It's hard to turn credit into a flip scenario as just credit. You're stuck with the basic principle of just buying shit from a card. When you turn credit into cash, for example... you have a shoe vendor selling, say a 3,000$ pair of Jordan's not knowing what they are really worth for 500$ take the credit turned into cash, buy the shoes, sell the shoes at even 1500$ pay off the credit card and you basically got an extra 1,000$ now you can keep doing that process (although I wouldn't suggest spending all the money unless you are able to make the monthly payments on time) but you can also build your credit as well as extend the line of credit eventually for a higher line of credit but more importantly make extra money in the long run. Most successful people make their fortune off of credit instead of investing their own money. It may only be 500$ but you have to start somewhere
Impressive_Till_1883@reddit
Open my PVC send successful
princessisland@reddit
iOS app called Prepaid2Cash. I have used it myself with no issues
Infamous-Tax7794@reddit
How does it work?
princessisland@reddit
You link a debit card or a bank account and you enter the gift card details and they buy it from you for a fee. I'm being downvoted because people think I'm affiliated with them or promoting it for them. I'm not, it's just service that I personally know works
slash_networkboy@reddit
That's how my ex laundered money when we got divorced!
She bought thousands of dollars of school scrip (which is just gift cards these days) and it just looked like payments to the kids' school. After the divorce she converted them back to cash on this app or one like it. Meanwhile I'm on the hook for half of that bill as a marital debt.
Evil genius that move. Fortunately that was about the only "smart" thing she did.
moomooraincloud@reddit
That's not money laundering.
slash_networkboy@reddit
Actually, it is:
It was a form of false accounting presented to the court under penalty of perjury; thus an illegal act.
Is it the classic "hide the drug money by way of a coin-op laundromat or arcade."? no, not remotely the same thing, but it is within the scope and definition of the act and laws that pertain to it.
Wise-Commercial7117@reddit
Yup it is money laundering - concealing of assets basically
Embarrassed-Ad56@reddit
Are you able to redeem store gift cards on the app? It’s been telling me that it’s unavailable for the past few months.
princessisland@reddit
No, unfortunately right now it seems like you can only do prepaid Visas etc.
mixedbullpcola@reddit
just did it, sent it to my friend then he cashapped it back
MonzellRS@reddit
Use it for food
Beginning-Mix-2603@reddit
Drug dealers don’t like food as a exchange bro
Valade_Gang@reddit
If someone’s getting Visa cards for Xmas they’re prolly not buying their own food haha
MonzellRS@reddit
Why do they need cash?
Valade_Gang@reddit
To buy weed maybe? Lol 🤷♂️
blue_no_red_ahhhhhhh@reddit
Go to your bank. They’ll do it, no problem.
BlueDreamCatcher09@reddit (OP)
Take the visa gift card to my bank and they’ll deposit it into my account??
blue_no_red_ahhhhhhh@reddit
Yep. I’ve done it myself.
CheesecakeOfDestiny@reddit
which bank?
moomooraincloud@reddit
lol no they won't
Mr-Datsun@reddit
They probably used it to purchase a money order and then deposited it with a small fee for the money order
blue_no_red_ahhhhhhh@reddit
No. I asked them if they could deposit the money on the card into my account. They said yes and did it. Clear enough?
b99__throwaway@reddit
yeah it’s a visa so just a cash advance off the visa and then deposit into checking
stewman241@reddit
How big of gift cards are people getting that they have nothing that they would be able buy with a prepaid credit card.
BlueDreamCatcher09@reddit (OP)
It’s a $500 gift card that I’d like to use towards bills to get ahead. Don’t need to buy anything else right now so comfort from bills sounds nice
MissJessicaOreilly@reddit
I prepaid my phone bill, internet and Netflix with my prepaid Visa/MC GCs. Bill for phone was $48? Paid $240. Netflix $22? Paid $110.

Just pay your bills with the gift card. Then the cash out would have used for bills stays cash in your account. It works like a debit card. You can pay bills with it
slash_networkboy@reddit
So use it for groceries/food and put what you would have spent towards your bills.
247Justice@reddit
Pay the bills with the card.
iHateReddit_srsly@reddit
Do you spend money at all ever? Just use the card for whatever that is, then that money you would have spent remains in your bank account
Spadeninja@reddit
…you can pay your bills with that giftcard.
geographyofnowhere@reddit
Can't pay drug bills with a credit card
crash866@reddit
Pay your bills with the prepaid Visa card if they accept credit card payments.
stewman241@reddit
Huh. Ok. I guess I use my credit card for various bills as well like groceries, gas, etc.

If you're in a legal gambling state you could try and load it into one of the sites and claim the sign up bonus. Just look at what the rules are. Both FanDuel and betrivers allow only one time play through of a bonus so you're only making money. So if betrivers still offers $250 match then you would have $750 ( the original $500 and then $250 match). Then you play through only the $250 and keep whatever you have after that. Then you might need to deposit $10 or so from your bank account so that you can withdraw to that account.
Zestyclose_Drag_6686@reddit
Unfortunately i tried not work anymore. You need to play all those deposits funs and won. If not omly can refund directly bAck to the card
Dorshock@reddit
There's social casinos that I found. One is called lucky land. You have to buy coins and play through them once, but once a week they do a $30 for 15, so if you play blackjack Jack youll make money.
There's another called modo. https://modo.us?referralCode=ZDHjcv0MhvRM They have pretty good deals too and black Jack plus they give you a free dollar a day
AugustusReddit@reddit
Hang out at a local self-service gas station pretending to be an attendant - wear greasy overalls. Exchange cash for gas, but you use your card. You'll have cash in a very short time...
Alternately do this at grocery stores offering to help old ladies (with cash) to buy their groceries.
BlueDreamCatcher09@reddit (OP)
That’s a little sketchy… I mean thank you it’s outside of the box but that’s not for me lol
itspanda1988@reddit
I wonder what was said before deleting the post 😂 😂
BlueDreamCatcher09@reddit (OP)
He told me to buy people’s groceries or stand outside a gas station and buy peoples gas using the card in exchange for the cash amount. I ain’t bothering grocery shoppers(nobody wants to be bothered) and I’m not gonna sit outside a gas station like a homeless person.
I found out I can probably buy money orders at Walmart then cash them at a bank so there’s that
brandonh36898@reddit
I had this same question, how can i turn these visa gift cards into cash!!! Best option i have found is setup a squareup acount get the app, like you sell stuff, set it up to manually enter the amounts all you do is connect your bank acount and it allows you to manually enter the gift card like someone is buying from you, then cash out the money to your bank acount!! They have a 3.5% fee plus 0.15 cents so on 100 bucks would be like 3.65 cent fee, then if you want it to instantly hit your bank it will be 1.75% to transfer instantly, you can do normal speed its free which is a few days to hit your bank.
Trust me, im no spammer,Bot or any of that Im a real person that researched for days the best way to make that happen and the way above is the best and easiest way ive came up with.
itspanda1988@reddit

Open a Revolut account. Add funds, not from your bank, but directly from the gift card. Suprisingly, adding money on revolut this way shows up as a regular payment to a merchant, instead of a money transfer, so you can bypass the whole restriction on transfering money from gift cards. Lastly, you send the money from Revolut to your bank with maybe 5euro fee.
SamuraiJr@reddit
Nope didn't work.

Buy something from shoppers or Lawtons or any other store and pay with a Gift card + your own card. So for example let's say you have $20 in a Gift card, then buy something worth 25 and pay that extra 5 with a card. And then return the item the next day and when they will do a refund, they will ask to use the same card which you used to pay that extra 5 bucks.so just tap the same card and boom now you got full money in your account (make sure it's debit card)
_fast_as_lightning_@reddit
Years ago I purchased a square card reader. Like if you were to start selling lemonade and wanted to take credit card. I don’t see how you couldn’t use the gift card and swipe it to your square account.
Spun_undS@reddit
try localmonero. trade card for crypto then run it back through an exchange service for us dollars to deposit it into said bank account
