ULPT: If DoorDash or UberEats refuses to refund an incorrect order, don't call your bank and cancel the transaction. Instead, order another $100 of food from them, and then call your bank and have them cancel that charge.

They're going to deactivate your account either way. Might as well stick it to them.
beto_6661@reddit
I’m with op, fuck these corporations, always say you have a problem with your food and get partial of your money back
connection_lost@reddit
Companies like Uber refuse to refund because since most customers won't or doesn't know about chargeback. It's disgusting how they can get away with it like that.
KeyzerSoze33@reddit
I order from postmates about 4 times a week. Whenever I've had issues worth needing a refund it's been given with no issue. Moreover, it's been through the automated help in 2 min.
humbug2112@reddit
ya know I would think postmates might be different. Every time I've tried to use it it ends up more expensive than it's worth compared to other apps. Makes me wonder if the median post mates client has a higher income than ubereats/DD, which would allow for higher margins and therefore room for refunds
voluptousoscar@reddit
Postmates is now UberEats (I believe there was buyout) or by contractual app magic Postmates ordered are filled by UberEats. I have found sometimes it’s slightly cheaper to order directly from the business website. It will still have a fee but some businesses offer free delivery, Bob Evan’s was offering free delivery on Friday nights.
qlz19@reddit
Yeah, same here. I use several different delivery services and 99% of the time all is perfect and for the remaining 1% it’s always been handled well.
What is going on that there are apparently a lot of people who have such bad experiences?
connection_lost@reddit
My guess is refund ratio is not the only factor to determine whether you will actually get a hassle-free refund or not. It can also be location specific, bad neighbors/roommates may potentially spread to innocent accounts due to fraud detection.
Also glitches. Unrelated, but my UberEats account is currently glitched and unable to use any promos.
NewPointOfView@reddit
Thays exactly my experience with Uber eats haha
ninetofivedev@reddit
Most of them just keep track of your account. I had a bad string of luck with DoorDash deliveries, and although I never had a problem in the past, after my 3rd messed up delivery in a week, DoorDash just didn't offer me a refund.
My understanding is that there is some fomular (not sure if it's a window or over the limetime of your account)... and if you exceed so much in returns, they just stop giving it to you.
Which makes sense given that so many people abuse these apps.
RyanFire@reddit
i'm curious as a driver. why do you like ordering so much food in a week? I've done so many deliveries that I really don't order myself because i'm so used to just driving around all damn day.
ninetofivedev@reddit
Because I was lazy.
cunticles@reddit
I have three or four or five at least fucked up orders delivered by doordash where they left out something or I ordered 12 chicken wings they delivered six.
I really don't know how hard it is to check what you put in the bag against the order.
KeyzerSoze33@reddit
I don't think the delivery drivers are allowed to check. Further proof being how many restaurants staple or sticky tape over the top to prove it wasn't tampered.
cunticles@reddit
I meant the restaurant should check.
McDonald's gets it wrong so often when I go through the drive-thru and they hand me the bag I stopped and go through the bag and look at every individual item check and almost without fail every second time at least they're giving me the wrong source or the wrong burger or the wrong size fries or they left something out.
RyanFire@reddit
Lol I used to work for this one app that basically makes the driver order the stuff in person. It really sucked taking 5-7 food items out of the bag just to make sure everything was there, it also made me feel like a dick, like i'm calling them incompetent because they're watching me empty out the entire bag. If it was a huge order than I would give up and roll the dice, hoping they got it right for the customer.
lorenzomofo@reddit
I think some startup guys tried to create a tool for both parties to verify their claims but people wait it was too privacy invasive.
humbug2112@reddit
i wonder if workers purposely sabotage? Because I never have anything wrong when I order in the drive through or the app (without coupons). And I have THE MOST difficulty when I use a coupon or ubereats.
goingoutwest123@reddit
This is true. I think half the time the workers fuck up the order on purpose and put the sticky on it. I'm pretty sure a lot of restaurant workers hate these apps because they create a lot more work during already busy time periods and make the job even more miserable.
FruitsnackKilla@reddit
I don’t know about on purpose but when I worked at a place that did DD/UE, we made much less of an effort for those orders when we were busy. They’re simply less likely to complain
toasterstrudelboy@reddit
Other people's abuse does not make it okay for them to take money and refuse service to people who haven't done that. It's their business, so it's their risk to take, not ours.
lord_flamebottom@reddit
Exactly! Last I checked, most major companies just take the loss on fuck ups like this because the money lost is worth the goodwill gained.
I really wonder how long until these companies go under, cause companies that start pinching pennies on customer service stuff like this typically don't last long.
toasterstrudelboy@reddit
I think they used to, but now they have such a grip on their industries that they feel untouchable.
senescent-@reddit
I've literally always gotten a refund. I've also been denied but I've insisted to talk to somebody else. It also helps that I usually have photographic evidence because 9/10 it's just them placing it on the wrong house.
NewPointOfView@reddit
Every time there was a mistake with Uber eats, they refunded me no questions asked.
ramenmoodles@reddit
ive had no issues getting refunds, but havent used them in 3+ years, with all the fees it just isnt worth it even if im lazy af that day
Ok_Tune_855@reddit
What is chargeback?
hellotenbit@reddit
Disputing a charge with your bank. It's easier and more common with credit cards but possible with debit cards as well.
Typically reserved for fraud and refund disputes but you can dispute for just about any reason with most banks and the bank will decide who's in the wrong and how much money you're owed, and they almost always side with the customer. Don't use it unless you've exhausted all other options to get your money back as most merchants will ban you from their platform after a chargeback.
qaisjp@reddit
I once told them in the chat that I was just going to chargeback if I didn't get a refund, and they ended up giving me a refund!
1308918@reddit
Lots of people shaming OP for "advising felony fraud."
At what point does it become fraud for Door dash or Uber eats? If I pay for a product or service and it isn't rendered, and this happens multiple times, who is really defrauding who? Why the fuck do a bunch of greedy cunts sitting behind a desk get to commit fraud on a massive scale, punishment free? Because there's no way they get any more than 70% of orders correct. Probably about 50% of my orders have come fucked up, and I have never been made whole for this, but if I do a charge back that's a felony?
Ashamed-Lynx-3601@reddit
Doordash has fucked me over and their drivers have damaged my food or straight up stolen it more times than I could defraud them. Fuck them.
Same_Philosophy605@reddit
The answer is get your own fucking food. Man the amount of people that can't just get your fat ass up and go get your own fucking food you can already pre-order it I don't understand how the fuck.
imshemp@reddit
This website is full of people like this. They overpay for a sandwich and then log on here to stand on a table and scream about populism and revolution. As though they are actually entitled to food delivery, as though a flawless DoorDash experience is a natural right and the executives and customer service team are depriving you of it. Delete the app and get your own chicken nuggets dude. You don’t even have to cook for yourself, literally just pick up the food on your way home from work, assuming you have a job.
Same_Philosophy605@reddit
Indeed the amount of people crying about delivery are getting played then bitching about it when they can just bypass all that shit easy
Drenghul@reddit
Or just cook for yourself. I work 12 hours and have time to cook and it's better than the garbage 80% of restaurants serve. Only thing I can't cook right is hibachi, Indian, pho, and middle eastern. Idk why but even following recipes I can't get those right. 😂
Same_Philosophy605@reddit
It takes time cooking anything takes time. Like I'm really good with meat but I turn all my vegetables to mush but if you want a really good prime rib I'm your guy or a baked potato I do great baked potatoes
Drenghul@reddit
I have my priorities in order. I work 12 hours overnight, I sleep and wake up, get my son from school, cook, do dishes, do laundry, then go back to work. I relax on my day off.
Gradam5@reddit
Commiting fraud, even if they did it first, is obviously still illegal. What are you smoking?
1308918@reddit
Guess we should let companies continue to buy political influence in the form of CPACs and continue to engage in regulatory capture with lobbying, and let them fucking financially rape us dry into corporate fascist feudalism, at which point the planet will be so goddamn fucked up that there is literally no recourse left for the common man, and Jeff Bezos and friends will fly off to Mars while your gig-delivery-driver kids' rotting corpses fester in the Amazon Corporation FunGhetto(TM) that you considered legally acceptable, so it was morally acceptable too. Laws aren't about rule or order, they're about keeping poor people in check and literally nothing else. Same reason why your boss can withhold your wages and the worst thing that will happen to him is a small fine that matches seconds worth of profit for the company but if you take a stapler and they call the cops and decide to price charges your ass is going to become a slave of the state, laboring for pennies an hour for "for profit" companies as a punishment.
1308918@reddit
Fucking preach. When corporations abandoned democracy and the rule of law with regulatory capture and lobbying, they forfeited their rights to cry foul when consumers do the exact same thing to them by bending the law.
"If you don't own a product you purchased, then piracy isn't stealing".
Same applies to the people and entities that abandoned the social contract for personal gain. They are fucking lucky that we don't have the gumption to execute every last one of them via guillotine.
stankumJankum@reddit
People are too fucking stupid and lazy to actually do anything about it. I feel like any reasonable society would have collected all these exploitative cunts and just fucking offed them for the good of the species. We have so much as a collective but have been tricked to allow like 200 people to own it all.
Kraafyr@reddit
I LOVE this guy, feels good reading you
LongTallTexan69@reddit
It’s due to “good faith” in theory, the delivery company in some former fashion, takes a look at an order and determines whether they are going to refund it or not based on a myriad of criteria. So long as that isn’t done in bad faith, then they would be covered. What you are proposing is a planned fraud, with the sole purpose to defraud the delivery company of their money.
1308918@reddit
If this cannot be accomplished with the revenue produced, then the business deserves to refund the fraudulent transactions (not the delivery drivers), and the business deserves to fucking rot and burn. They didn't pay for training. They didn't pay for systems to monitor orders or pickups or an app that takes care of that. They therefore need to PAY THE FUCK UP. You don't get to cut all benefits for workers (oh, contractors), cut corners on quality assurance, and STILL WIN. you either fucking plan for it in your company, or you fucking lose. Youre over.
LongTallTexan69@reddit
I don’t disagree with you, but merely explaining the situation, as-is.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me, many more times, shame on me. Why the hell are people still using these companies?
toasterstrudelboy@reddit
Let's put on our empathy hats and think about that!
Hmmm... Has this company invaded several cities and effectively overtaken food delivery this becoming the only option or the only option with any variety? Possibly! It's a big world out there and not every town is like yours!
But why do people need to order food for delivery? Are they able to go get it themselves? Do they have a car, or live within transit/bike/walking distance from food options? Do they have other hurdles like a disability, illness, a sick kid, a strict job,etc that are keeping them from leaving where they are? Maybe! Other people live entire lives that are different from yours and thus face different problems than you!
Hope this helps you see things from other people's perspectives and not shame them for using services available to them for their advertised purpose!
1308918@reddit
Thanks for not being a fucking bootlicking fucking idiot. Fuck all of these assholes except you. They can't think past a sentence.
notislant@reddit
The vast majority is laziness, lets not pretend 90% of it is bedridden people who cant pickup food. Plenty of stores deliver food for free from stores now even.
GRK--@reddit
I order every meal I eat because I have better things to do with my time than chop onions and wash pans.
Same reason you can’t be bothered to farm your own food out back. Same reason why you don’t stitch your own clothes. Convenience.
“Did you know people spend thousands a year on clothing? It’s not like they’re disabled. Just 1-2 hours a day, every day, of weaving fabric on a loom and sewing it together would save them so much money!”

TwistedOvaries@reddit
I have been evading the disability tax because I like money. Oh no, they are going to come get me for it. /s
Funny enough, my disabled husband and my disabled self just finished eating our food that was delivered by Uber Eats.
I guess we shouldn’t be doing that since we must be poor. /s
88pockets@reddit
I take care of my disabled dad, so I get where you're coming from, well halfway. People are always gonna have ludicrous preconceptions, just gotta laugh at it I suppose. My sister taught me not to call someone stupid if they insult or belittle or otherwise cross me, instead make them feel stupid. So use your sardonic and sarcastic remarks to really cut them deep when they espouse their inane ideas.
BardicNA@reddit
Ding ding ding ding ding! Guarantee a majority of purchases are just laziness and not caring about spending the extra \~$15 for a meal. It's cool, let a middleman like Uber, Doordash, etc. Get in between restaurant, delivery person and customer. Let them take a huge cut. They're doing a massive amount of work and providing an incredible amount of value.
Oh wait.. Yeah no, burn it all down.
toasterstrudelboy@reddit
And why can't they be bothered? Are they burnt out from the hellscape we live in? Probably! Burn out and laziness are in fact very different things, and burn out is incredibly common. Just because it seems like laziness to you doesn't mean it is, because again, and let's say it together everyone, people live different lives from the one you live! Choosing to believe this is all due to laziness doesn't do anything for anyone except make you feel better about your shitty opinions <3

Have you ever heard of being busy? I know it's not common for most redditors, but some of us have careers and families.
nw0915@reddit
That's exactly why I don't waste money on getting food delivered. It's either cook with the family, go out with the family, or pick something up on the way home. But to each their own
1the_healer@reddit
Careers and families doesnt mean lack of money, It means lack of time.
Op mentioned being busy, then you listed 3 time consuming options. Jesus Christ

Twokindsofpeople@reddit
This is dumb as shit. There's few bigger wastes of money than getting food delivered. If they're that poor then wasting resources on uber eats is the last thing they should be doing.
I swear to god, the trend of excusing dumb lazy fucks as "disadvantaged" has gotten to parody.
toasterstrudelboy@reddit
Okay, you can continue being a selfish little shit, I won't stop you. I'd say I hope you're never in these kinds of situations, but hopefully you learn empathy before you need others to have it for you <3
_unfortuN8@reddit
What does that have anything to do with calling you on... shaky... logic?
toasterstrudelboy@reddit
It's not shaky logic, it's a basic understanding of the hurdles of everyday life as faced by all sorts of people across a variety of demographics. Really all I'm saying here is that just because something is accessible to you that doesn't mean your experience is universal.
Drenghul@reddit
It's just making excuses for being a lazy pathetic person. Just throw shit in a crockpot that takes less effort than ordering shit online and why waste the money if you aren't getting what you ordered? Drenghul@reddit
Hahaha I can afford it I'm just not that dumb. Pissing your money away is stupid. If I do eat out I'd rather get the whole experience. Also why would I order food when what I cook tastes better? I'm not paying more for lower quality food.
dangerall@reddit
You sound really jealous and bitter lol
Drenghul@reddit
No I just don't tolerate stupidity and paying money to get the wrong stuff with no effort to make it right is stupid. What's even dumber is complaining about it then doing it again. Do you think if you keep giving them money that they will improve their customer service? Lmao
toasterstrudelboy@reddit
Your preferences don't make others lazy by comparison. No one is forcing you to get food delivered.
Drenghul@reddit
I don't use them because I don't like them. You people aren't happy with them but keep giving them money. You are all suckers.
Drenghul@reddit
Don't complain about delivery services if you are going to keep using them. That's what bothers me. "Oh no I'm spending so much money on doordash and they don't get my order right! Time to order more!" That is stupid. If you aren't happy stop buying the shit. You have no one to blame but yourself.
HobGoblin2@reddit
OMG what a tool you are.
3925@reddit (OP)
some people just make more money than you, so it's not that big a deal to use food delivery services on a regular basis.
just like some people hire cleaning services, personal chefs, drivers, landscapers, etc etc
there are probably tons of things you don't do yourself, because you can't be bothered, and the price isn't very high from your perspective.
that's how these services seem to me, and others.
honestly, $100 isn't very much money to me.
I wouldn't notice it added or missing to any of my bank accounts - it gets rounded off in my mind.
So, I could spend $100 every day on food delivery, and at the end of the year I wouldn't miss the money.
Sure, I could take that $36,500 and spend it on something else.
But I already have lots of "$36,500's" to spend on whatever I want - so I spend one of them on getting food delivered from any restaurant I want to wherever I happen to be, and the rest go to other things.
Same with grocery delivery.
It's not 'lazy' to pay a service to go to the grocery store and handle that nuisance. Literally anyone who can afford to have someone else do it - has someone else do it. You don't go to the grocery store because you're some sort of independent hard-working 'non-lazy' individual.
You just can't can't afford to have someone else do it for you, so you HAVE to do it yourself.
FunnyAssJoke@reddit
For people to effectively change the way these companies operate, they need to be hurt in their wallet. While there are people whom are unable to get food for themselves in one way or another, you can rightfully assume that the main part of their business is people being frivolous and being okay with spending twice the amount on their food because it's a slight inconvenience to drive there themselves. It's people like that that enable these companies to pull one over on everyone.
Don't shame people for trying to create a good change for other people's benefit.
PM_me_tus_tetitas@reddit

The difference is Doordash isn't intentionally getting your orders wrong. The intent (malice) is the crucial element of a fraud.
Different_Pack_3686@reddit
I have no issue with whatt OP is suggesting. But it seems odd to me yall are consistently having your orders fucked up. I live in a mid sized city and get shit delivered often, don't think I've ever once had a significant issue.
jiIIbutt@reddit
I’ve had issues with my orders more often than not and I don’t substitute anything or add any special notes. It is almost always something. Whether it’s missing condiments, missing sides, or a missing entree, it’s happened. Maybe I’m just “unlucky.” Either way, I still continue to order food delivery and hope for the best.
Different_Pack_3686@reddit
I've had .I or issues such as the ones you've listed, but its on par for if I was actually at the restaurant as well. Sometimes you have to ask for a thing a few times before your server remembers. You don't get that option with delivery for obvious reasons. It's just people being humans..
blagsan82@reddit
I've certainly had missing items from a good chunk of orders, incorrect condiments, or the food arrived stone cold cuz the driver either had 4 orders they dropped off prior to mine or they got lost finding me.
Different_Pack_3686@reddit

BellabongXC@reddit
If they got half your orders wrong, why did you keep ordering? That's the real problem, and while I don't want to do the whole blame consumer thing, in this case it is. I worked at a fast food restaurant in NL which was going to do a delivery test (this was years before covid) and we went all out on quality. From special containers so fries wouldn't get soggy, to delivering bottled soda instead of tap soda so it isn't flat on arrival as well as separating the soda into separate bags. Fries were done cooking literally 10 seconds before they went into the bag. Other food was only cooked if there would be a driver available within 3 minutes.
Fast forward to covid and working at a rival company and they start cooking when the order comes in, everything is dumped into the same bag and sits there for 20 minutes, including tap soda. Literally a nightmare of delivery practices in my book and guess what? Apart from review score there was no indication that this was affecting revenue.
They stop caring because it looks like you don't care.

On Door dash (only one I have used) just never complain about individual items being fucked up. If anything is fucked up, just say you got another person's order. You get the whole thing refunded.
Figured this out after I got some chicken fingers and they didn't include the dipping sauce. The refund offered was basically just a refund of the price of dipping sauce, but as far as I'm concerned the whole thing was fucked because I didn't sign on to eat dry chicken fingers. So I went back and said I got someone else's order, which hey maybe I did get the order of some savage who likes dry fingers, and got the whole thing back.

They won't necessarily deactivate your account. I charged back nearly $400 to turo back in 2021 because they refused to refund. I showed up and the car had no left taillight, so I didn't take it and instead left. Went back and forth with turo for days and then just disputed with my bank.
Turo sent me an email saying this:
nikoel@reddit
How does having a left tail light out affect anything? Not trying to argue, but rather understand your rationale since you were not getting into the vehicle. Unless there was something else at play, the food presumably would have been the same regardless of the tail light

I went through this with Papa John's last night. This isn't the first time.
The driver forgot my 2 liter and he refused to bring me one and insisted I call the store for a refund. It figures since they are using uber drivers now. So on top of the meal I payed a $5 delivery fee and a $6 tip and my order wasn't complete. I call the store and the manager said, I'll refund the soda and a ranch sauce cup, Like that's gonna be okay. I hung up on him.
1 star google review with an explanation.
Called corporate to report this and got a full refund with an apology and a commitment to a meeting with the manager and the driver. Fuck door dash and fuck papa johns too. I'll never spend my money there again. I've got too many choices to pick from locally.
Enough_Blueberry_549@reddit
Why wouldn’t refunding the soda be ok?
thermal_shock@reddit
Order food, pay fees, pay tip, get INCOMPLETE order after 1-2 hours, then told to "deal with it". Lol
RyanFire@reddit
I used to work for an app where the driver has to order the stuff himself and constantly stores would forget 1-3 items in the bag. It came to a point where I was pulling everything out of the bags and standing at the counter feeling like a nuisance.
Like I said above, the taco bell guy reads a screen "in writing" if you order in person. Doesn't mean they'll actually put all the shit in your bag, or they misread and add mayonnaise when you didn't want it. You should actually work for some apps and realize not everything will come out perfect.
thermal_shock@reddit
people like that should be fired then after X screw ups. it's not hard to put items in a bag, it shows you either don't care enough to check or are just lazy.
RyanFire@reddit
My app would just hand out credit refunds for the screw ups. My boss actually told me one day that I could never get fired. I thought that sounded kind of sketchy but that's how it is. Not every app is the same though.
thermal_shock@reddit
that's an easy way to handle it. you know they're tracking you behind the scenes though so you don't "help your friends"... careful with that.
saraphilipp@reddit
The correct move is for the driver to get the customer what they ordered not tell them to call the store and get a refund. It's as simple as purchasing a 2 liter from the store and submitting the receipt to the store or, drive back and pick one up a deliver it in a timely manner. He admitted he didn't even check the order to make sure it was complete.
RyanFire@reddit
He's wasting his gas. He gets nothing out of going back to the store. You didn't read the entire terms and conditions. That's not the correct move because it's not even protocol, you're just trying to force people to do things for you in that scenario.

margmi@reddit

readitwice@reddit
people in here saying she went too far don't understand that the branch f'ed up and essentially refused to correct things. it was as simple as returning with the beverage and bread sticks as a "my b!" but instead they gave her the middle finger and told her to figure it out. this isn't how you handle customer service and establishments need to recognize that.
how that call went is anyone's guess, but I'm going to assume corporate offered a refund because that shit's embarrassing and not how they intend to operate. that branch didn't attempt or want to do the bare minimum, so yeah, they're going to get slapped by corporate. just because it put a bad taste in her mouth and she put them on blast doesn't mean she's in the wrong to share her experience.
I'm not anti-corporation by any means, but if you think a pizza company with over $2 billion in revenue couldn't do more on an order they flubbed then maybe you're anti-consumer.
RyanFire@reddit
It's not that simple in the perspective of the driver. The trip and his 'profit' were completed once he arrived to the door, whether he fucked up the order or not. It has happened to me before. Waited 30 minutes for someones food with a drink on the order, the employee forgets to give me the drink and by that point it also slipped my mind. It sucks but it happens.
strangetrip666@reddit
It's shit like this as to why I just pickup my food under normal circumstances. It's just not worth the price and risk of the driver screwing something up these days.
Delivery has really gone downhill since companies don't hire drivers directly anymore.
RyanFire@reddit
The problem is these app companies don't want to shell out money summoning a new driver order to correct the mistake. In most situations the driver gets nothing out of it for going back to the store.
payne344@reddit
Me and my family once went to Olive garden once and was sat down. We were totally ignored for 30 minutes. We saw that people who came after us were getting served, but not us. I gestured to the waitress once when she was passing by and she replied she will come shortly. After sitting around looking at the menu awkwardly and noticing people who were already eating giving us sympathetic smiles, we decided to leave and go to another place.
The next day, I emailed corporate with exact details of what happened, with the timeline etc. I did not expect a reply, but got one after 2 days that they are figuring it out. The next day, they send an apology email along with a 100 dollar gift card and was hoping we would give them a chance once again. I am guessing they might have checked out the cameras during the timeline. Also, that they had reached out to the manager of the specific restaurant and will retrain the staff. We ordered take out with that gift card. Bottomline, yes contacting corporate definitely works.
RyanFire@reddit
The unethical in me wants to try this 'story' at every major restaurant chain to see if I get anything. I think I actually read about this scam before (even though you're truthful) but I never tried it. I kinda doubt they went out of their way to look at the cameras.
Magisterial-Messi@reddit
I’m calling BS. You aren’t having a meeting with the Uber driver and the store manager. Also, as a former Uber eats driver, they followed Uber policy. They cannot return to the store to correct what was wrong. They are supposed to instruct the customer to dispute with Uber/Restaurant. If the driver had not already accepted another order and wanted to go above and beyond he/she could have returned to the store but that rarely happens. If the driver were to return to the store and then sent another offer from Uber and had to decline that order because they were going back to the store, they may not receive another offer for an hour.
I know it sucks to not get what you paid for but this would be on Uber to send out another driver to pick up your drink and deliver it.
Rebellion2297@reddit
Thanks for saying this lol. I did doordash and other food delivery for a bit in college, and on the first day working, I actually went back to the restaurant to correct an order. When I explained the situation, the people working there looked at me like I asked them if they had a unicorn in the kitchen. Long story short, I didn't get the missing food.
I texted the customer what happened and then marked the order as completed before they could say anything else. I think I got paid like $5 for that hour of my time.
You're also treated like the devil incarnate by everyone involved. Restaurants hate you, Customers hate you, the internet hates you, and Doordash especially hates you for not taking every $2, 10 mile order.
Don't do doordash or any other food delivery for that matter, they're all the same experience.
RyanFire@reddit
True, when I worked those apps I would shake my head at watching fellow drivers going back to the store wasting their gas trying to correct an order. There's nothing beneficial they can get out of it. Mistakes happen and the apps should give out refunds for them.
saraphilipp@reddit
You wasted all that energy. Corporate is having a meeting, not I. So quick to jump on the karen train you went full karen yourself. Quit making assumptions. I have the email, you dont.
Scrappyl77@reddit

saraphilipp@reddit
Dude got a $6 tip on top of a $5 delivery fee I had to pay for $20 in food. I used to be a driver so judge someone else because today, you're dead wrong.
supersirj@reddit
Lmao this is the embodiment of a first world problem. Paying $31 for $20 worth of food and causing drama over a $1-2 soda, all because you couldn't be bothered to pick up the order from the restaurant yourself.
notmyrealnameatleast@reddit
But if they paid to get a soda, they don't want the money back do they? They want a soda! I also order in often and I don't care about the money, I want food. If they come by an hour later and tell me here's your money no food, I'd be pissed.
supersirj@reddit
Maybe it's a personal thing, but for me, the drink is the least important part of a meal, so it feels like the efforts she took were disproportionate to the value (both objective and sentimental) of the drink.
notmyrealnameatleast@reddit
I think that situation was kinda the straw that broke the camels back. It wasn't just the one drink I believe.
Anyways, it's not unheard of to call and complain, and if they won't do anything about it, you might make another call higher up the chain and that's what they did. Not necessarily that they intended to make a huge deal from the beginning but it just ended up like that because one thing lead to another.
Scrappyl77@reddit
So you are.skazy that you'd rather pay a service fee that's a quarter.of the cost of your food and then whine about soda and still.post after your entire order was refunded.

That driver isn’t having a meeting with anyone lol. They lied. And I realize there is a contract however that doesn’t give you any power to make the decision on who rights the wrong. Just because the driver declined your request to go retrieve your drink doesn’t mean that if you followed the proper procedure per ubereats rules you wouldn’t have had it resolved to your satisfaction.
RyanFire@reddit
Depending on the app used, sometimes it's kind of a gray area for the driver to go back for something that was forgotten. In some cases the driver gets nothing out of it, just wasted gas and wasted time, when it may have not been the driver's fault in the first place.
For example if you met him at the door and said hey where's my drinks? There's no real point in him wasting his gas to go back and retrieve your drinks, the order has been closed and the driver gets nothing out of it, even if the mistake was entirely his fault.
Once I slipped in some guys muddy yard, crushing all of his four drinks. Wasn't my fault really. It was just a drop off delivery. I could have been a dick and just disposed of the drinks myself and close the order, but I decided to waste my gas to get new drinks from the location which wasn't too far off. Still got the lowest tip possible anyway.
snksleepy@reddit
Oh man, i hate to be the receiving end of your bad side.
RiChessReadit@reddit
Right? She wrote this like it was her being badass, but it comes off badly. Like sure, you deserve a refund of the soda and something extra like the delivery fee being refunded too.
But that's about it.1 starring, then getting the manager and driver in trouble because they didn't give you everything for free -over a forgotten soda- is insane.
jiIIbutt@reddit
A 1 star review and complaint to corporate is absolutely extra over a soda and a side of ranch, but the point is that refunding the missing item(s) isn’t a great solution and is actually irritating. The customer paid for the order, the tip, and the service fee. And waited for the order. Simply just refunding what’s missing is annoying. The restaurant or delivery service should make things right and get the item(s) to the customer. Or at the very least, offer a larger credit for the inconvenience. It’s not hard for huge companies like Uber Eats to have better solutions.
Billy1121@reddit
After you pay a premium (inflated prices plus delivery fee and possible tip) to get the wrong order so many times, some people just go feral.
Frankly for what delivery costs now, I don't blame them.
republicbuilder@reddit

TheBlackJoker@reddit
You can only deal with so many lazy drivers and food preparation before you push back. No one wants to pay up charges for food delivery that is often gouging then add on top of that you don’t even get all of your food. I push back over every mistake now because I won’t be complacent with poor service.
thekingswitness@reddit

JakethePandas@reddit

Her efforts might initiate change, your efforts yield nothing more than a useless rating on a website.
RiChessReadit@reddit
I mean, I guess she could be using her very thinly veiled anger issues to benefit the common man, by aggressively pushing back against every small mistake. That's a very generous interpretation for sure.
I'd like to hear the story from the perspective of the pizza joint. Small order mistakes happen all the time, because workers are human, and humans make mistakes.
So an order goes out without a soda. The customer calls, probably already fuming and aggressive (because that makes you oh so generous with refunds), you offer what seems like a reasonable solution, then get hung up on after probably taking some verbal abuse.
Then comes the 1 star, then a few days later your boss calls and wants to chat, which could very well result in you getting fired, or having negative marks on your record.
But it's all deserved and justified, so you can take comfort in that. You shouldn't have forgotten that soda. You should just give customers a full refund for any order issues, because that makes sense.
2cats2hats@reddit
Noted.
Let's all keep in mind a tip is paid out before seeing the order accuracy and quality nowadays. If this is the norm, then checks and balances can be implemented to ensure the order is accurate every time. I understand the human factor in your reply of course. Where I live we have a restaurant chain where everyone involved from the kitchen to the server has a say if something is wrong or incorrect with an order, or it gets sent back.
saraphilipp@reddit

I don’t get why you’re being downvoted. If this was retail and you didn’t get the entire product, you’re entitled to a full refund, same should be the case for food.
Winertia@reddit
If it's all meant to be one item, sure. But if you order two items from an e-commerce site and they only send one of them, do you really feel entitled to a refund for the one you received?
NathanTheSamosa@reddit
Two completely different scenarios. "two items" is essentially two parts of the same order. This time its a drink and a main but next time you could be missing curry sauce for the rice, or an order for two and only one meal arrives. A lot of the time, a "single" missing item can make the whole order null. You cant start drawing lines for every unique scenario.
And its not like getting an amazon delivery that can arrive at any time. This is time sensitive. The seller is providing a time sensitive service. Imagine a wedding venue offering a reception and a room for the couple. But the venue is cancelled on the day. "You cant get a refund on the room because it is still available" is pathetic. Thats an extreme and random example but it emphasises the point.
Winertia@reddit
I just think it's really situation dependent.
Like let's say you order $300 of food for a party and they forget one appetizer. I think expecting a full refund is totally unreasonable.
I think it depends on whether you still want to eat one item without the other. I agree with your example because I wouldn't want to eat plain rice without curry sauce.
But most people don't need soda to eat pizza. It's not like it's a topping or dipping sauce.
They totally should have refunded the delivery fee in addition to the soda though.
ZombiedudeO_o@reddit
I wouldn’t say it’s $300 worth of food and one appetizer, it’s more like $150 worth of food and $150 worth of appetizers. Obviously you want all of it, and its going to be a very time sensitive item, so it’s understandable that you’d want a full refund for all of it, or to get what you paid for. Because without all of it, it makes the order incomplete.
Regardless though, in OP’s case, it’s literally just a pizza. Idk why they’re so cheap that they can’t refund a $30 pizza for a dissatisfied customer, especially when corporate got involved, they refunded them anyways
ZombiedudeO_o@reddit
If one products sole purpose was to compliment the other, absolutely (such as a drink and pizza)

And on top of that a food order is time sensitive. The seller is providing a time sensitive service in which sending new "socks" two days later isn't an option
OShaughnessy@reddit
Comping an entire order after a missing drink is not a proportional or practical response. Let alone a sustainable business practice.
tl;dr OP = Karen.
jsdodgers@reddit
If you're having a tough time understanding how to things are different than one thing, maybe you can think of it this way: A drink and a meal are like ordering a shirt and pants. Two separate things, if they don't send the pants you aren't entitled to a refund on the shirt even though they're a matching set. Curry and rice is one dish. Arriving without the sauce is comparable saying you ordered a shirt and it arrived without the sleeves or the buttons. In this case you get the refund on the shirt, not just the sleeves and buttons, since the shirt is one item.
Get the difference now?

If I ordered matching pants and a shirt for an event, and only the pants showed up, and it was too late to get the shirt delivered in time for the event... then I'd want a refund on both. They were a pair of items that go together for a time sensitive event.
This really isn't all that much different from that, with the caveat that you can probably substitute in something else for the soda and be reasonably happy. But maybe not. Maybe you don't like pizza without soda. Then you return the whole thing and get a refund.
kaiser-so-say@reddit
“More than??” Nope. That’s just expected when I’m in a restaurant. The inconvenience regarding delivery charge and tip means it requires more.
kevpapak@reddit
What inconvenience? The extra delivery charge and tip on a 2$ soda is negligible. The time spent even fighting this isn’t worth the money that was lost. Refunding for the item is adequate. Stop being a Karen and expecting the world for the slightest of inconveniences.

I can't imagine being so bent out of shape over a soda that even after getting a refund I would call corporate and AGREE TO A MEETING WITH THE MANAGER AND DRIVER. Looking online right now, a 2 liter soda costs $3.49 at Papa Johns. I'm not going to a meeting over $3.49.

I really don't understand why it's crazy to comp the full meal? If they forgot a topping on the pizza they would comp the whole pizza not the cost of the topping. How is this different?
I've worked delivery for Domino's and maybe it's just the managers I've had but if I forgot a soda (I've done it many a time) I would just get one at a gas station and the store would refund me.
Or if the store was too busy the customer would get a free pizza next time. But they would never comp just the soda.

cunticles@reddit
I used to work for Pizza Hut delivery many years ago and the business philosophy back then was it has been the to lose a sale than to lose a customer
So that the customer's very unhappy over something we've done or not done, we would refund the entire cost of the meal with an apology on the basis that we'd make the money back when they reordered in the future but if they stop ordering from us we'll lose a lot more money than just one meal

You muricans are crazy
NinjaFlyingYeti@reddit
Why would you tip before getting the food lmao
TJNel@reddit
I had this issue and the phone number rep said they couldn't refund due to the store had to do it. It took me a month and 8 calls and the manager finally contacted the phone number and I was like no way I want the entire order refunded as I spent hours of time trying to get a hold of them to refund that 2L and that at this point I wanted it all refunded. They did it, all they had to do was answer their phone and refund the $4 2L.
GlassCharacter179@reddit
You did all that over a 2 liter soda?
ValiantAbyss@reddit
Considering how expensive food delivery is these days, I don't blame OP. When you order a $10 Pizza and $2 Soda and it ends up costing $25 I would be pissed too.
It's also why I never order delivery anymore, especially since most have switched to services like UberEats/Doordash.
UrLocalTroll@reddit
This got taken a little far
zamfire@reddit
Yea I'll probably get downvoted for this and I realize I am privileged enough to be able to drive myself to my local pizza place, but you spent a ridiculously large amount of money to order delivery. My local papa johns has a 9.99 1 topping large special constantly and its nothing for me to get into my car and get my food.
snowballer918@reddit
How did you get the contact info for corporate?
FlamingSaviour@reddit
It's a corporation in the first world. They have a website with contact info at the bottom.
saraphilipp@reddit
I found the form on the tracker part of the app it said survey here. I turned one in the week before for burnt food because it's the second time in a row.
lilshortyy420@reddit
DoorDash and UberEats are predatory on so many levels. I have to use them frequently as I don’t drive and hate it. I wish I could tip more or cut out the middle man.
RyanFire@reddit
As a former driver, just tip whatever you feel is comfortable. Ultimately it's up to the driver to do the math and see if it's worthwhile. Don't feel bad about it, that particular driver may already be at the restaurant location and will deem it fair even if it's a low tip.
lilshortyy420@reddit
Thanks for making me feel better lol I try to tip at least 5 bucks
RyanFire@reddit
Yeah don't worry about it. His next tip could be $15. Even one time I got a $50 tip which was my biggest lol.
jiIIbutt@reddit
I would love if restaurants would have their own staff deliver but most can’t afford to or don’t want to staff this type of service model anymore. They’ve all sold themselves out to large delivery apps.
IceBlue@reddit
I’ve never had issues getting refunds for incorrect orders on DD. Is this common for others?
RyanFire@reddit
if you do it every other day that's when it becomes suspicious
Mrx_Amare@reddit
This only screws the restaurant, not the companies you mentioned. Former FOH manager… you’re going to cost that restaurant probably $50 in food and labor. And all the delivery company wastes is the one minute of labor it takes to hit “canceled”.
RyanFire@reddit
Except the restaurant weighed the pros and cons, read the terms and conditions and are satisfied with them.
Bezere@reddit
I'm so happy I'm not lazy and can enjoy a correctly verified made meal that is also warm and fresh and half the cost that other people pay.
RyanFire@reddit
some of these people would be more satisfied if they just ate TV dinners every day. it's hot as you like, decent food, and no one forgot anything

I personally hate UberEats. I've been using them for years, I just moved in June and immediately had a ton of issues (it is a little rougher area outside my neighborhood) and orders would just be canceled or marked delivered but then no photo, call, text or knock at the door. So then I started doing "Hand to me" but the dumbasses would just leave it at the door and not knock or anything.
Ended up complaining, in 3 years these were my first (only) 2 complaints the chat guy threatened to cancel my account. I told him to go fuck himself, they refused refund so I called Amex and they charged back that order as well as my orders made through them for the last 90 days.
Fuck UberEats.
RyanFire@reddit
Blame coronavirus for that. Before corona everyone would happily answer the door for me until the new 'distance' rules were going into place. Then it was annoying because some people would actually come to the door and give me a tip, then I felt confused on whether I should stand at peoples doors or not. Now it's a culture of just dropping bags and running away regardless of your settings (like you mentioned the hand me thing).
pumog@reddit
this part of your sentence "I personally hate UberEats" does not fit with the last part: " I've been using them for years". Must not hate it that much...
SiggySiggy69@reddit
Well yeah, when you completely ignore the rest of the comment like an idiot it would appear that way.
I guess I should just read the first 3 words of every book then decide what it's about?
pumog@reddit
Nope I read your entire comment again and it turns out that if you say that you completely hate some thing and been using it for years it would only make sense if you followed up by saying something like “I’ve been using them for years, but then I had a certain experience, and now I hate them.” That would be one example of hoow it would not be contradictory. Don’t take it personally I just thought it was funny that someone says they hate something so much and have been using it for many years. It reminds me of Groucho Marx, who said “ nobody goes there anymore. It’s too crowded.”

Coinbasethrowaway456@reddit

anoleiam@reddit

BrightNooblar@reddit
You can hate a service and still use it. Everyone hates comcast, but most people aren't going to opt for going back to sending physical mail instead of emails. I hate Uber Eats, but sometimes I want some Indian food but I don't want to go outside.
Dealing with UE is just better than driving drunk, or walking a mile and a half while drunk.
anoleiam@reddit
Comparing something as unnecessary and gratuitous as UberEats to something borderline necessary like the Internet is just silly. It’s nice to have Indian food whenever you want, but you don’t need it, and if you do, you are totally free to walk/bike/transport and get it yourself. Why Comcast is especially hated is that they have monopolized and jacked rates up for an incredibly useful utility.
This being said, it would be just plain dumb to hate UberEats and continue to give them money.
w0greTV@reddit
I had a good laugh too
SiggySiggy69@reddit
Bruh what? You literally cut off the most important part, the aspect where I describe why I hate them.
anoleiam@reddit
The way you phrased it made it seem like you were continuing to use them while claiming you hate them.
Desperate_Banana_677@reddit
and the rest of their comment didn’t make their meaning clear enough for you?
anoleiam@reddit
I honestly didn’t know if they were still using it or not. It sounded like they hated it and still used it. Simple as that.
Granlundo64@reddit
They just used the wrong tense but yeah it confused me for a second too.

SiggySiggy69@reddit

havokx9000@reddit
Seems like you just got unlucky. I've used them for years and have had great experiences, my fair share of bad ones over the years as well but I've had instant refunds with literally zero trouble pretty much every time I have an issue.

It was great until we moved. I think the general area just isn’t as good

Abraham_Lure@reddit
I used to use them frequently since I'm the only one at work and I can't leave. Paid $60 for a bunch of chicken wings that the driver decided to leave on the sidewalk outside. It was raining, there are drunk sports fans running around, and homeless people. Of course I never got them, which is fine. They then decided to not honor my refund. I also got a big bag of empanadas that somebody else had ordered, sorry to whoever paid for those, but we all enjoyed them.

Out of curiosity what is the right recourse here? Ubereats did not do anything wrong if your food orders got robbed. Why not just pick up orders yourself then?
SiggySiggy69@reddit
What are you looking for here? You’re asking what is quite literally the dumbest question I’ve ever been asked.
“Why not pick up your order you wanted delivered?”
Well for starters, because I deemed paying for delivery and having food summoned to my door as more valuable than paying and picking it up. It also could’ve been lack of time or ability to pick up said food, etc. there’s a million reasons why I may not want to go pick up the food at that given time.
But I understand that what you’re doing is trying to imply that by paying for a service I’m somehow at fault for my items not making it to me. But no amount of mental gymnastics is going to make me at fault for Naquan or Richie stealing my Subway instead of handing it to me.
4nyc@reddit
Well for starters you get constant push updates as the delivery guy makes his way to your house. I’ve worked delivery for Uber eats and also use the service so I find it odd that the person claims they did not get any notice whatsoever when the app constantly sends you updates tracking your food.
SiggySiggy69@reddit
Not what was said. Reading comprehension isn’t your strong suit apparently. No matter how you try to spin it, my food being stolen by drivers isn’t my fault.
4nyc@reddit
I never said it was your fault bruh
I said why didn’t you just order pickup if they keep stealing your orders. You ain’t reading my comments either 😂😂
darwinsidiotcousin@reddit
Did you even read the comment? Drivers didn't knock, text, or send a picture. That's what UberEats did wrong. If the person knows the food is delivered once it's delivered, it's a lot easier to go get it so it doesn't get stolen.
4nyc@reddit
Do you use Uber eats? You get constant push updates as the deliver guy makes his way to your house. I’ve worked delivery for Uber eats and also use the service so I find it odd that the person claims they did not get any notice whatsoever when the app constantly sends you updates tracking your food.
darwinsidiotcousin@reddit
My phone doesn't vibrate or ring for push notifications because that would be annoying af. It does vibrate and ring when I get calls or texts.
Yes, it is possible to track it. That doesn't mean it isn't part of the driver's job to tell you when they arrive. If they choose to half ass their job, it's not OPs responsibility to fix it.
complete_your_task@reddit
I used Grubhub and Doordash a lot during the pandemic and never once had my order delivered to the wrong address. I've used UberEats 3 times (always because I had a 40%+ off coupon) and only once was my order delivered to the right house. And I always compare the prices in the apps to the prices on the restaurant's website to see how bad the markup is. Grubhub and Doordash mark up their food, but it's usually in the $1-$3 range per item. UberEats mark some items up like 50%. I've seen $10 markups on UberEats. A $20 pizza on the website will cost $30 on UberEats. That's before you even get to all the extra fees. All delivery apps suck and are predatory and I rarely use them anymore, but UberEats is on a whole other level.
durrrrrimaredditor@reddit
You can do this to paypal and venmo too.
Just make like 5 deposits for like 800 bucks or better into a buddies account at one time and then have him pull the cash out immediately.
You venmo or paypal account will be suspended but that is it
Ambitious_Pen_6363@reddit

ElefantPharts@reddit
Man anyone who uses those 3rd party delivery services because they’re too lazy to go pick their own food up gets what they get. There are enough stories and videos of incredibly shitty things happening to peoples deliveries that if you still use it, you know the gamble you’re taking, suck it up and accept that you thought it may turn to shit but did it anyway and now you have no room to be shocked when you get shit on.
wish_to_conquer_pain@reddit
Disabled people exist.
RonanCornstarch@reddit
they didnt exist 10 years ago?
wish_to_conquer_pain@reddit
I don't know what point you think you're making. Of course they did. Delivery services just allow us to get things easier. There are so many reasons to use them that aren't laziness.
And even if it is laziness, who cares? People are allowed to spend their money how they want.
RonanCornstarch@reddit
how did disabled people get their food 10 years ago without random people who are unaffiliated with the food place and unaccountable for what happens to the food on the way to you?
jiIIbutt@reddit
Food delivery has been around since the 1700s…
RonanCornstarch@reddit
yeah, food delivery from people that actually work for the place that is delivering your food? not random people letting themselves be exploited for less than minimum wage.
thermal_shock@reddit
wut?
pakito1234@reddit
Im getting to the “get of my lawn” age but I’ll fucking starve before I pay somebody extra to pick up good for me cause I’m to lazy.
I’m sure their are exceptions like emergencies but yeah, fuck that.
ElefantPharts@reddit
That’s all I’m saying, I’m lazy, but not too lazy to get my own food. And if I am feeling that lazy, then I accept that I’m taking a gamble and my delivery will prob be cold and/or wrong.
thermal_shock@reddit
then you don't have to order delivery, what is the point of your post?
3925@reddit (OP)
Why is that transaction a gamble?
If you buy a car and it shows up with no wheels do you just say "oh well, i should have built my own car. that's the gamble I took, i'll just accept a substandard product."
i value myself too much to do that. the money i have, comes from time i've spent. i don't give it away for anything less than what was agreed on.
ElefantPharts@reddit
It’s a gamble because you don’t know if the correct order will show up (as you’ve clearly experienced), if it will be cold, or if it’ll have a bite or two taken out of it. Sure you can get your money back, but you’re still hungry and now you have to order something else and wait for it to be delivered, again with all the risks… meanwhile I’ve gone and picked mine up and I’m enjoying my hot, correct meal while you’re still angling for a refund and figuring out what to order next. You’re absolutely right, time is money and I choose not to waste it on time sinks like haggling over a wrong delivery.
PS, the argument was never “don’t order, cook your own food” a la your car point.
3925@reddit (OP)
Yeah man, I don't order every meal I ever eat from these services, this is just how we do lunch at my office on the days that we don't go out.
If somebody's complete order doesn't show up, I get a refund, even if it's just one or two items.
Just like if someone catered your wedding and forgot the cake and champagne, you probably wouldn't want to pay for that service - even though you still got some stuff.
The point is, when it works (which is most of the time) it's great, so it's worth it.
And the few times that it doesn't work, I don't pay for it, because I'm not running a charity.
FlpDaMattress@reddit
My truck left me stranded at work once (fuel pump died). I live in a food desert. Door dash was the only way I was eating.
I go to a lot of events in cities where you pay each time to enter a parking lot. Usually $20. Cheaper and easier to door dash so I don't leave my shit unattended.
I was drunk in a hotel room. I don't drive while drunk.
There are PLENTY of reasons ordering food can be cheaper and more convenient than getting it yourself.
CptMuffinator@reddit
Tell us you don't have a busy life, without telling us you don't have a busy life.
RonanCornstarch@reddit
i have a busy life. doesnt mean i'm going to have some random person pick up my food for me.
ElefantPharts@reddit
Tell me you don’t enjoy a wfh situation without telling me you spend 8-10 hours in an office.
thermal_shock@reddit
You live in a bubble if you think disabled people don't order delivery. That's some simple jack shit you're pushing.
3925@reddit (OP)
i get what i ordered, or else i get my money back.
just because you can't afford it doesn't mean that the people who can are lazy.
the whole point of earning money is to exchange it for goods and services.
ElefantPharts@reddit
Nothing to do with not being able to afford, it has to do with me wanting a correct order in a timely manner, so I do it myself. Then I have no one to blame but myself for my wrong order that’s cold and has 3 bites taken out of it. Also, I didn’t pay more for each item, a delivery fee, plus a driver tip. But hey, everyone’s different, some people enjoy bitchjng online about how their orders never right and always cold, you do you my man.
ilega_dh@reddit
You built the car you used to pick up that order yourself too? Because by your logic, you should never pay anyone to do anything for you.
3925@reddit (OP)
or i can pay for a service to deliver it, and when it shows up correct they get to keep the money, when it doesn't i get the money back.
pretty simple.
driving to a restaurant and waiting around for the food and then driving back to the office isn't really that rewarding of an experience.
that's why i pay someone else to do it.
if they do it wrong - i don't pay them.
ElefantPharts@reddit
Sure, then you gotta deal with a refund and reordering or just suck it up and eat the wrong delivery… again, you do you, if that’s worth your time and attention then that service is clearly geared towards you. I just prefer to avoid that whole run around and just get my own food so I know it’s right when I sit down to eat.
3925@reddit (OP)
it's not that hard.
i just tell them that one of the orders didn't show up as ordered and it needs to be refunded.
and since it's an account used to purchase multiple meals for multiple employees, M-F every week, all year, they just refund the order automatically because they don't want to lose a corporate gravy train account like that.
ElefantPharts@reddit
This whole post is predicated on how it can be made difficult and what you can do if that happens, what are you talking about “it’s not that hard”
3925@reddit (OP)
the post is just describing what i would do if they ever declined to automatically refund the whole order.
it hasn't happened to me yet.

notqthrowaway@reddit
Does that apply to getting mail and packages delivered as well? If you're too lazy to go buy your own stuff you deserve to get it stolen by porch pirates and packages thrown?
boiseshan@reddit
It's really a matter of economics: sometimes my time is worth more than the cost of ordering food delivered. Other times, I go to a restaurant and linger. Sorry that your time is so worthless that you're free to worry about how I spend my money

The restaurant covers chargebacks, not DoorDash
benbernankenonpareil@reddit
Source on this?
JuiceoftheSnork@reddit
I manage the DoorDash Merchant account for a local restaurant. Even after disputing, these chargebacks fall on us. We were recently hit with four chargebacks from the same Doordash customer at once.
jiIIbutt@reddit
I hate to ask this but aren’t restaurants at fault in these scenarios too? They don’t pack the order properly (it’s missing items) and then hand the bag to the Uber Eats driver to take out the door. The UE driver doesn’t check the bag and then delivers the order to the customer. The customer is pissed. Everyone is sort of to blame.
JuiceoftheSnork@reddit
Sure, it’s hard to know if the restaurant messed up or the dasher stole food, but this is specifically talking about reporting transactions as fraud to your bank. The initial problem order could have been the restaurant’s fault. The additional $100 of fraud would’t be. The restaurant would unfairly suffer for that, not DoorDash.
jiIIbutt@reddit
True. I honestly forgot about the OP when responding.
JuiceoftheSnork@reddit
My suggestion for anyone who has an issue like this is to call the restaurant directly and let them know what the problem is and ask what they can do to help. If it’s a chain store, they’ll probably redirect you to Doordash and you’re in the same boat. But small/local shops should be happy to work with you outside the app to make it right. I might be skewed to our restaurant’s attitude/policies though.
InformationQueasy707@reddit
I order grubhub 2x per week minimum and they fuck up about once or twice a year. When an item is missing they credit immediately without even contacting the restaurant.
WonderChopstix@reddit
Have fun when your credit card drops you.
PresidentialBruxism@reddit
Credit cards will never drop big spenders. Cope harder
WonderChopstix@reddit
Because the dude doing a Door dash charge back to skim a free meal is a big spender. Ok.
PresidentialBruxism@reddit
Yes when you spend alot you have more chances of disputes with asshole vendors. My credit card always helped me with those saving me time and legal fees. If you dont like justice, youre a wet brain
jiIIbutt@reddit
Right. Amex doesn’t question disputes other than ask, “did you talk to the company first?”
PresidentialBruxism@reddit
Yeah you have to prove you are in good faith obviously
jiIIbutt@reddit
Uhh… ya. People don’t get or stay wealthy by being taken advantage of and paying for items they didn’t receive.
cunticles@reddit
I don't know if I qualify as a Big Spender but I spent about 1500 to $2000 a month on my credit card have had multiple order stuff ups from Doordash or Uber and when you can play the system offers your refund that is less than the price you pay for the missing item they make it hard to get the refund.
So just because I spent what is a lot on my credit card to me doesn't mean I'm gonna let go delivery services taking my money and not delivering what I paid for
Glittering_Choice_47@reddit
I work in fraud analysis and they probably won't if you have enough money. Banks don't care as long you don't owe them or risk them losing money.
WonderChopstix@reddit
Has nothing to do with fraud. Companies are getting fed up at number of charge backs. It may not be the only driver to drop you but absolutely can be a factor especially when you have multiple.
Clearly we aren't going to agree.
karenftx1@reddit
I don't get how this works. My bank holds for a stupid week the pending charges. It won't remove it for any reason because computers. I order $100 of food, and I'm $100 short in the bank until it falls off.
jiIIbutt@reddit
Do not use a debit card for anything other than paying bills and withdrawing cash. Put everything else on a credit card.
truffleart@reddit

flying_blender@reddit
Of course, there's always a way to find infinite shades of grey in any statement. It's a classic reddit experience where someone comes out and goes well actually, this is not 100% true.
I'm sure plenty of millionaires use DoorDash or UberEats, but that's out of context here. People will millions of dollars, don't waste their time on a chargeback over a missing food item. They use it to save time, not dive into petty shit that their wealth is meant to shield them from.
It's like saying the common man files a chargeback and spends hours of time over 0.01$ overcharge or getting only one napkin instead of 4, when most people can't even be bothered to pick up a penny off the ground.
Previous-Ad7618@reddit
It's not even 1% true though you're just say shit that's wrong.
It's a service used by most demographics and if you wanna make a brazen statement like "yes we'll it's quite clear food delivery is for stupid people", you have to be prepared for someone to tell you that you're a fkin idiot.
flying_blender@reddit
Door dash serviced 20 million customers out of 258 million adults in the USA in 2021.
So by just one metric, only 13% of adults use it. Door dash also admits their primary target audience is millennials and earlier.
We also know that 2/3rds of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, and have no savings.
So possibly, up to 2/3rds of that 20 million really cannot afford it.
I could go on, but the general consensus is it's people spending money they don't have on convivence. Not smart.
Captain-Creamiez@reddit
You are a master of conjecture.
flying_blender@reddit
Interesting response to direct facts about door dash and American finances. But we know it's typically a waste of time on reddit.
Maybe If I post the answer 3-4 times people will understand, since that's about the markup of doordash/ubereats. I mean people could go find the answer themselves, but that's too hard.
junkstar23@reddit
I don't think you understand how truly petty the rich can be. Always remember Warren buffett's wife complained about $2 coffee
flying_blender@reddit
A complaint is different than committing a felony over 2$. Not too bright.
there is a way to avoid these kinds of problems... don't use DoorDash or UberEats.
junkstar23@reddit
Well then I'll just lay it out for you I know tons of rich people that do chargebacks all the time. Their favorite credit card Amex even encourages it
flying_blender@reddit
Then you might know a lot of stupid people.
Until you can buy time with money, expending a precious resource that you can never replace (time) to get something you already have more than enough of (money) is pretty dumb. They are just being victims to their petty nature, or principals, etc.
Seems like most people value their time at 0$ per hour. It's worth a lot more than that, but let's say it's worth your hourly rate at your job at the minimum.
'Rich' in America these days is 500k per year or more. Or about 240$ hourly.
Let's now assume they spend 30 minutes filing a chargeback on a 100$ food item. Net loss overall. Good job.

Pro tip, don't order take out through a third company.
Superpansy@reddit
I've never had an issue with doordash returning all of my money on bitch deliveries. If you're being denied you're probably the problem
myrcenator@reddit
You must be lucky then. It's happened to me at least half a dozen times
3925@reddit (OP)
Nah, I haven't been denied yet, but when that day comes I'm gonna make the chargeback count
Superpansy@reddit
So you're just making hypothetical situations up
Drenghul@reddit
Better yet if you are too lazy to cook or get it yourself find someone to get it for you and cut out the middleman. Do you have a neighbor with lots of free time, or a high school student with a car? Offer them the 30 dollar delivery fee. That way they make more than they would driving for the app.
My wife does Instacart sometimes and she'd only make 12 bucks on a 100+ dollar order. That's just on her end. I'm sure Instacart marks it up. It would probably be cheaper for them to just pay her 20 bucks to bring it plus pay her back the 100 for the groceries. She'd make more and the customers would pay less.
danteselv@reddit
That sounds good on a small scale but the value of these companies is that they facilitate a steady flow customers with little to no effort from delivery drivers. That's why they take their cut, their code is actually doing more work than the delivery driver.

If you order $100 of food from a restaurant, then call your bank to cancel the charge, the restaurant has already made your food. You’re not hurting the drive share corporation, you’re causing a loss for the restaurant. So if that restaurant is a family owned place, they loose on all that product and they have a tough enough time staying open as is with the cost of food/labor. If you cancel an order from a billion dollar corporation, they take all those losses and increase prices. Drive to get your own food if you don’t like the time it takes you to get a delivery!
danteselv@reddit
wow when you put it that way I still don't give a damn.

I feel like commiting felony fraud is not a good life tip
PineStateWanderer@reddit
how is that felonious?
PolarSquirrelBear@reddit
It is literally fraud, which is a felony.
You are knowingly making a purchase to then perform a charge back. That’s fraud.
PineStateWanderer@reddit
Not all fraud is felonious...
Styptysat@reddit
Whether this gets classified as felony or misdemeanor depends on the amount. In most places $100 would just be a misdemeanor
benbernankenonpareil@reddit
This is excellent
Spirited_Wasabi9633@reddit
Shit. At least 30% of my orders are wrong with DoorDash and I just tell them every time. Haven't been threatened with account deletion yet. I get it for $10 a year with a student discount. Can't beat that. I will keep this in mind, however.

My 2 favorite 4 letter F words are FREE FOOD
DeadKenneth@reddit
This is a great idea tbh
GrundleCurator@reddit
Don't do this. I work for a bank and all banks are not the same. If you made the purchase and claim that they didnt deliver it or something like that and DD provides pics of the delivery you are not gonna get your money back.
snigherfardimungus@reddit
Except that the loss comes from the credit card company, not Uber or dd...
Ed3nEcho@reddit
Not how chargebacks work.
Peace-For-People@reddit
If you want to avoid getting cheated by Door Dash or Uber Eats, don't order with then.
