The B-29 was essentially a scaled-up B-17 with a lot of technological advances. However, one thing I've always wondered is: if a B-29 had to make a crash landing in water, would it stay afloat as well as it's predecessor, the B-17?

Besides being a four engine bomber this aircraft was different from the B-17 in almost every way. Wings, fuselage, engines, speed, range, altitude capability, and bomb load. This project, from the drawing boards to the production lines, was an immense undertaking that cost a gigantic amount of money at the time. Even more than the Manhattan Project.

Yes there are a dozen photos of B-29s that had ditched and remained afloat for a while off the coast of Iwo Jima, Saipan, and Tinian.

Pressurised cabin right? So it’ll be a little stronger and not have holes I don’t think that outweighs the higher stall speed(?) though

Each engine has 18 cylinders. Each cylinder has two spark plugs. That’s 36 per engine, 144 in total. That is a lot of spark plugs.
