Thinking about moving to Paraguay

I heard it cheap and you need around 500$ a month to live there. I get around 528$ usd for disability so would that be enough? What's life like over there and is it easy to get permanent residency? How's the food and weather too?
Wizerud@reddit
Well you need a minimum of $1022/month income to gain permanent residency. Or you can deposit $4500 into a Paraguayan bank.
Rahul159359@reddit
I think they have stopped this bank deposit scheme for residency, can someone please help n confirm
CounterSemite666@reddit (OP)
The deposit to bank route looks better. So I won't need that much income per month if I deposit?
Wizerud@reddit
Doesn’t look like it but you’d be living like a local on that amount, for sure.
Quirky-Camera5124@reddit
aside from guyana, paraguay and asuncion are probably the worst place in south america to think of living. no one other than fleeing nazis and muslim terrorists want to life there. sure, you can survive on the cheap, but in a miserable state of being.
Writingthebooks@reddit
Lmaoooo where did you get this information from ?? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 show the book that’s hilarious
LordMC718@reddit
Doubt you know much about the place.
terrium213@reddit
Wtf?
emptystats@reddit
It's not that bad...
Ok_Pomelo1717@reddit
Nazis flee there? Damn sign me up
italiantra@reddit
Help yourself, if you have a taste for that.
Ok_Pomelo1717@reddit
Dont mind if i do
Serious_Park_4005@reddit
How Paraguay is bad? Many youtubers are saying that is dope there.
Imaginary_Order_6611@reddit
Take a look at his history.
lwpho2@reddit
If the nature of your disability is physical and you rely on ADA-type infrastructure I do not recommend Paraguay.
CounterSemite666@reddit (OP)
It's mental
TheMaze01@reddit
Moving to a new plane is stressful for anyone, let alone if you don't have enough money. If you're not familiar with the culture and don't know the language, you're not going to be living in the cheap areas unless you can find a local, or Expat to help you out. You could make it on $500 but it'll take a severe mental toll on you so....
Imaginary_Order_6611@reddit
That explains it.
CounterSemite666@reddit (OP)
Explains what?
hedgefundpm@reddit
I'd highly recommend against Paraguay, the city center has some nice attractions but this can be done in 2 days.
With your budget, Northern Brazil is for you. Be safe.
CounterSemite666@reddit (OP)
Well then it's either Islamabad or iran
Kcufasu@reddit
Idk how canada works but I'm surprised they'd let you claim disability benefits while not being resident in canada - you can't just claim money from one country's government and live in another lol
feetking69420@reddit
Disability money paid by the VA works overseas at least, I know a few veterans that are getting almost 3k monthly that were looking to move to costa rica and the like
fjortisar@reddit
It would depend on what's paying it. If you're a US citizen and get SSDI or SSI you can certainly continue to receive that outside of the US. OP sounds like they're getting it from a CA province, which probably requires you to be resident there.
LazyMandioca@reddit
Hi, I work as a relocation agent in Paraguay. Any questions about residency you have, just DM me.
TheJerzWay@reddit
Hi there, the food is delicious and the weather is warm/hot. The temporary Paraguayan residency visa is initially issued for a period of 2 years. After this period of time you will be able to apply for permanent residence. We help people to obtain residencies, contact us for more information. THE JERZ WAY..
CounterSemite666@reddit (OP)
How much monthly income do I need?
TheJerzWay@reddit
No income needed for paraguayan residency.
Equivalent-Side7720@reddit
Dude threw a dart at map of South America. It hit the toilet. Now he's wondering how to make shape it into Heaven and ignoring everyone's advice. Lol.
CounterSemite666@reddit (OP)
Where else can I survive on that income besides vietnam maybe? No other country seems to have that low of admission requirements.
Equivalent-Side7720@reddit
Honestly, nowhere. Moving as a foreigner to an extremely poor place is a bad plan. You won't find anyone to assist with your mental health. Your better off moving to rural Mississippi or urban Detroit.
CounterSemite666@reddit (OP)
I'm in Canada and prices here are hell. Even conservative provinces are expensive AF and there is no place to move to except to another cheaper country. They don't seem to like the disabled here.
Equivalent-Side7720@reddit
Try this for a few minutes: stare at the wall in your living room. That's what life in rural Paraguay would be like. Have fun!
CounterSemite666@reddit (OP)
Could I live it out in Thailand or Columbia?
Equivalent-Side7720@reddit
No way. And without a visa you can't just move there.
CounterSemite666@reddit (OP)
So I'm better off finding a job (which is getting harder yearly) up here or go homeless?
Equivalent-Side7720@reddit
Correct. To emigrate, you need a sound plan and financial resources. Doesn't sound like you have either and hence will just be a drifting ship.
CounterSemite666@reddit (OP)
I'm open to a pt job if I do decide to move.
Geepandjagger@reddit
Please don't unless you have more money. Paraguay is cheap and cheaper if you are Paraguayan but you better speak Spanish very well. There are so many messages in expat groups of people who live hand to mouth and can't pay for a hospital bill, or their dogs food or any other small expenses that they didn't forsee or forgot about. Make sure you are not going to be reliant on charity. Just know you can live in Paraguay on 500$ but you will be poor there and the state institutions are not going to save you. People in developing countries have to rely on themselves
CounterSemite666@reddit (OP)
So I need like 1k over there? If you're in a small town or rural is it still that expensive?
Geepandjagger@reddit
For sure the countryside is less expensive but have you seen the Paraguayan countryside it is cheap for a reason. You will need a car to do anything at all. can you drive, can you buy one, can you fix it if it breaks. I am saying that living in Paraguay can be really cheap but not for the average person moving there. You need some leeway and to be able to save a bit. I am just tired of the same old posts and expats having to dig into their pockets to help someone with something that was entirely inevitable. Yesterday it was a woman with six dogs who got another one and then couldn't pay for it to be neutered and wanted help. Just make sure you are self reliant.
TheRealPeterVenkman@reddit
Ignore the people dissuading you. This sub has some elitist cunt shills. Do your research, take in serious comments, and plan from there.
fjortisar@reddit
$500 a month isn't going to give you a US standard of living
CounterSemite666@reddit (OP)
It's better than being homeless in the west. I could afford an apartment and food atleast
fjortisar@reddit
Well, if you're desperate enough it can work, just like it does for other poor immigrants. https://www.migraciones.gov.py/index.php/tramites/residencia/residencia-temporal-por-la-ley-n-69842022 You just have to know 100% you will struggle, maybe even worse than you are now, plus add in a language barrier on top of that.
Somebody posted about depositing money and automatically getting permanent residence, which is no longer true. Immigration was overhauled in 2022 and that was ended. You can still get temporary residency if you can prove that you can support yourself to immigration
CounterSemite666@reddit (OP)
So permanent residency is gone? How do you gain residency now?
fjortisar@reddit
Not permanent residency just the scheme to get it by depositing money. You have to apply for temporary residence and prove you can support yourself, after a few years (don't know exactly for paraguay) you can apply for permanent residency
CounterSemite666@reddit (OP)
Wtf did they change it? World is becoming more shit every year.
fjortisar@reddit
It was just one way to prove you have solvency and can support yourself. You can still apply and use your disability for it, but I couldn't tell you if $528 a month would be enough to satisfy them
giraloco@reddit
If you had the mental and physical capacity to immigrate and adapt to a very different culture and language in a foreign land, then you should be able to get a job at home.
_X_marks_the_spot_@reddit
Checked your profile to make sure & yup, you're American.
In Canada, unskilled jobs aren't very easy to come by these days, particularly if you have a barrier like autism.
giraloco@reddit
I understand. For sure it's hard to get a job for people on the autism spectrum. It would be incredibly harder to adapt to a place like Paraguay.
_X_marks_the_spot_@reddit
Not necessarily. Not if they don't have to work & can pick up the language.
I'm not kidding when I say it isn't easy to get unskilled jobs in Canada right now. Not even if you're neurotypical.

CounterSemite666@reddit (OP)
Doesn't work
abx337@reddit
I hear it's safe and affordable, but you'd have to renounce. They don't accept dual citizenships.
CounterSemite666@reddit (OP)
I was looking for permanent residency not citizenship so would that still allow me to keep my Canadian one?
abx337@reddit
Not sure, but probably.
