Let's not forget that the Lotus Exige was also powered by a 1.8L Toyota Corolla engine, so this isn't necessarily as sluggish as that sentence may suggest.

I'm assuming 'under the hood' is a figure of speech here rather than it actually front engined. That would be even more interesting.

That engine was great from 0 to 60. I had an Elise with the 2ZZ and that thing would knock your head back from a start. Ran out of steam pretty quickly though once you hit 70 or so.
