Has your employer ever ruined Christmas for you?

When I was at Boots the chemist. We were made to work till 7pm christmaseve, buses were stopping around 6 and before we left work we had to shut christmas down, that's remove everything to do with christmas! It felt like it was all over. It then took 2 hours and £25 in taxi fare to get home! That's Boots, joy for all except the staff! It was awful for me, but I'm sure you have far worse stories to tell?

There's only one occasion I can think of that an employer has *tried* to ruin Christmas for me. I had a retail job while I was in uni one Christmas. They were so uncompromising regarding Christmas hours that I quit just to have some time to go see my family. Then the company were desperate in January so they asked me to come back, with a pay increase of course.

Working 12 hours on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day this year but not the worst I’ve had One year I was rota’d in for 12 hours Christmas Day, the 27th and the 28th, and then the 31st. Technically, I had new year off but I worked until 7.30 with no buses running and had to wait for an hour for a double fare taxi. Got myself turned around and back out just in time for the pub I was going to spend the night with friends in to close their doors despite having a ticket. That was a great festive period and spend of £40 (£20 taxi and £20 ticket) plus I didn’t plan for food and couldn’t get a takeaway for love or money so spent NYE on my own crying into my toast and wine

Likewise Despite Australian law saying otherwise, my manager rota us all on xmas eve/xmas day/boxing day and the new year too WITHOUT ASKING US FIRST (which is required by law). After a heated argument with my manager I put in my resignation effective as of 5am xmas morning. I've since learnt that some other of my coworkers have since walked. If I'm pressured to stay beyond my resignation time then I'm walking off the job.
