Hello,
I have a Toyota Corola 2004, and today certainly the "check" light came on. I took it to the Auto zone and they said I have to change 4 carburetor and 1 Ignition coil. It costed me $325.00. I thought that Toyota cars do not need carburetors any more. Would someone please tell me whether I did the right thing or I've lost lot of money. Thank you.

I’d almost be surprised if they didn’t build something for some market that still has a carburetor.

My mom had a '90 Tercel that was carb

My wife and I were gifted her aunt’s ‘89 Corolla wagon (the she’d bought new). It had a carburetor. Ran great but was underpowered. Top speed was 91.

The 1990 Toyota Pickup was available with a carburetor

Toyota pickup went to efi in 85 at least in North America

EFI was introduced on the Toyota in 1982. The carburetor was offered simultaneously until 1990 in the US. Only EFI was available from 1991 to 1995 on the 22R.

80 series Landcruiser came with a carby. As did the Hilux up until 1997.

For North American Toyota at least there were some 1989 models like the Corolla or Tercel (not all of them, just some engines). The were overall cars that were made a few more years I know of that had them. 1990 had the Subaru Justy and the Chevy Caprice interceptor, 1991 had the Ford Crown Vic interceptor and the Jeep Grand Wagoneer. The Isuzu P-up was the last holdout I know of, keeping a carburetor until 94.

98 Starlet and Corolla came with the 2E engine

You can pop the hood on a 3rz equipped Tacoma, 4 runner, t-100 or any other overseas 3rz equipped car and see the mounting boss in the casting of the head where a mechanical fuel pump would go on the 1rz motor

The 98 corolla does not have a carb

It did in the Asian market. That was the end though as they were all replaced with aluminum blocks engines, VVT and EGR

My first car was an '87 Tercel that was carbureted. I was under the impression that generation of Tercel, which was produced until 1990, was the last carbureted car Toyota sold in America. I have no idea what the last might be globally though.

I think the last carburetored vehicle without computer controls in the US was the 1987 FJ60

At least in the states I'm pretty sure the Corolla and tercel you could get carbureted up until '89. Although it's a computer controlled carb, with an oxygen sensor and everything.

Camry too, iirc.
