The disappearance of high quality, cloth-like kitchen rolls (eg Plenty Dura Cloth and whatever the Nikki one was called). All that's left is 57 varieties of rough and flimsy towels that tear as soon as they look at water.

Is there any reason why you need cloth like kitchen roll? Can’t you just use reusable flat sponges? I have ones that I use and you can just put them in the wash.

I (used to) use them as disposable flannels and paper towels when washing hands and face, rather than proper cloth towels like normal people.

Both of you, stop buying butter adulterated with oil. Buy actual butter and it works like butter should. Kerrygold soft butter is still only butter with no added crap (almost every other is adulterated). Blocks of butter usually are also not adulterated, but check carefully. Both work fine.

Lactase doesn't resolve all dairy intolerance issues - it was the first thing we tried.

Hmm, OK. Just mentioned it because very few people realize lactase is available. I'm lucky enough not to need it unless I'm actually considering downing a glass of milk - though if that ever happens, it won't be lactase I look for, but a psychiatrist.

Indeed, it does help for a lot of people. My wife has a very sensitive stomach in general (dairy, eggs and - rather more weirdly - nutmeg tend to set her off the worst), but unfortunately we've never found anything that really helps besides avoiding those ingredients altogether.

The hell of it that I have is ginger. I'm very mildly lactose intolerant - enough that I can't drink milk, but not enough that I can't eat butter or cheese - but I can't even look at ginger. I tried a parkin biscuit a couple of weeks ago and it my guts felt like they were being scoured from the inside for two days.
