Azure Standard Foods

Anyone ever ordered bulk ingredients from Azure Standard? Positive/negatives? I currently live about an hour away from a bulk food store and with my schedule would find it easier to start buying ingredients from something online if possible.

Azure- will NEVER order from them again. Terrible billing department, always out of stock on affordable products, poor customer service, charged me $5.00 extra when I was a few cents under minimum order instead of notifying me to order a few more cents of any product to not incur the $5.00 surcharge! NEVER AGAIN!

Although this is an old thread, but posting this for the benefit of anyone coming to this thread.
I found out about Azure Standard 5 months back, and based on my experience with Product Quality, their customer service decided not to order from them anymore.
Not only is the quality bad, but a lot of the time, product Ingredients are different from what is on the website, and products are very close to expiring, sometimes like within two weeks or less.

I think its a scam.
I went to pick up my package, it was a restaurant. They had no Idea what I was talking about.
Then I called the number on the web page, I was number 50 in wait, so I pressed 1 and they were supposed to call me back.
I called the other number on the webpage and it was a doctors office.
I called back the original number 30 minutes later and I was still #51 in que.
I haven't received a call back yet.
Its totally feeling like a scam

I don't have enough experience or research put into Azure Standard to say one way or another but I can say that I've contacted their customer service department and was able to get in touch pretty quickly. The drop address you were given combined with the phone calls sounds like you accessed a potentially separate front masquerading as Azure. I hope you got your money back through your bank.

We have ordered from them several times.
Negatives - You don't always get everything you order depending on the stock of the ordered items at the time of the truck being packed up. - Order pick up times/days can change from what is initially put out, based on traffic the truck encounters on the way, etc. This can cause obvious scheduling issues. - Shipping costs (Azure adds 8.5% fee for deliveries to states far from their warehouse)
Positives - Items seem to be of good quality - Minimal issues with orders and customer service was helpful (only had one time where we didn't get a couple of items that were supposedly delivered to us and we were refunded with little hassle)
We have had very little issue with Azure and they have some great products. Would recommend.

Your experience is far from the norm. If you read the other replies above yours or within yours, you will see that they have a d rating with the better business bureau for having amongst the worst customer service of all companies. They don't take food safety seriously and the number one complaint is people receiving moldy food and it being completely ignored by the company. Many, many lawsuits against them. Some from end stage food poisoning. I'm glad you had good luck so far, but that may change.
InvestmentOverall936@reddit
What lawsuits? I’d like to know as I’m trying to convince a friend to buy from our local stores verses Azure. I hate Azure, they sold me vomit tasting slimy mangoes and told me they knew they tasted and were like that for their recent batch but they didn’t care. Cost me over $200. I have purchased mangoes for years and have since from elsewhere and never had that problem. It was nasty, wet dried mangoes 🤮

There are small claims suits in every state they have drop points in. They have LOST their BBB accreditation and still have a D- rating. Search the web for Azure Standard complaints, read the complaints on the BBB webpage or on https://www.sitejabber.com/reviews/azurestandard.com Mold and rodent feces are prolific.

You have to go to the Judicial District case look-up for every state and.... not every state has an online case look up option. I found multiple in an attempt to hold them accountable - but they are BIG, have expensive corporate lawyers and are hard to touch. MANY if not most of their products are labeled as organic, however, it doesn't say USDA organic and most of the products are sourced from Argentina. Just look up the beans and the flours for a couple of examples. The USDA and FDA apply to the United States only. Every country has their own agency for food certification. Argentina is horrific. As a matter of fact, travelers are warmed not to eat any food that may have been washed there as it may be contaminated with e coli or worse things. My issue was catching a nearly life-threatening case of e coli. When I raised the issue they boldly proclaimed that while they list their products as organic, they are organic based on the country of origin and not USDA organic. For some countries, organic isn't a thing and food can be covered in feces and still be considered organic. Mexico has horrific food conditions, yet here is an example: (There are thousands of products sourced outside of the US - which explains why so many products have invasive insects, rodent feces and mold). Some of there products are left over food commodities that were not distributed to local residents and are several years old and they outright stated that on one of the allegations against them on the better Business bureau website.
Azure Market Organics Black Beans, Organic
Product of Argentina, Mexico, and USA
"Is it safe to eat vegetables in Argentina? avoid anything that could have been washed as the water here isn't drinkable"
Azure Market Organics Lentils, Red, Organic
Product of Turkey, Canada, and the USA
Have you seen the food conditions in Turkey - which is near the Ukraine. I wouldn't eat it if it were given to me, let alone buy it and believe it to be organic.
Hope this helps.

Thank you! I was about to order from them, but I decided to consult Reddit first. The BBB complaints are eye-opening.
CT_worms_and_gardens@reddit
You're very welcome. I feel bad for those who don't do the research first. Buyer beware.
Theotherme12@reddit
Thank you for this. I have just discovered I have been severely mold poisoned by grains. It's going to be a slow recovery.
CT_worms_and_gardens@reddit
You're welcome. Mold poisoning from grain is severely under diagnosed. Most doctors have never heard of it. So many people are misdiagnosed as having leaky-gut-syndrome or get labeled with an "unspecified auto-immyne disorder" Yes, it will be a slow recovery, but at least you were diagnosed so the healing can begin. Lots of turmeric, ginger and fresh garlic will help a lot.

Thank you so much! Yes it does thank you!

I've ordered from them for over 20 years regularly. Never had any problem. It's a reputable company.
CT_worms_and_gardens@reddit
Read the other replies. MOST people have horrible experiences with them.

Buyer Beware. Azure Standard does bad business. This company has a D- Rating from the Better Business Bureau. This D- Rating is based on them not responding to their customers and not taking any responsibility for their bad, molded & mildewed food, in addition to other things that go wrong for their customers. They sell you inedible food products and when you ask for your money back, they ignore you. This company has no sense of ethics or accountability to their customers, or to their food products. I got two moldy products and was not even responded to in a week. Once they did, they claimed that they have no mold on that product and they are not responsible for my "taste preferences." They are passing off their moldy food as a new seasoning that someone doesn't like the taste of. Unbelievable. I just looked them up on the Better Business Bureau and many other customers complained of the horrible customer service, lack of ethics and accountability, and "mold"! This company is rated a D- from the Better Business Bureau for not responding to their customers and their horrible business practices. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Can you just imagine the lack of accountability they have with their actual food and food storage? Yet, that is a question for whatever agency is responsible for food quality control in Oregon State. This accounts for the real mold (yes, I had it tested) that was present on my food. I will never order from them again and I hope to tell many people what I wish I knew prior to ordering from them.... which is that Azure Standard is rated as one of the worst companies out there from the Better Business Bureau with a D- Rating!

The funny thing is they think that they’re just making one customer mad. I have never bought anything from them and have just finished a spreadsheet comparing them to another co-op in the and I thought than I came on here and found this comment and they have now lost another customer because of treating this particular customer poorly and I’m sure many others. Thank you for sharing.

Same here, my problem is with their inventory. Almost every time I order, my order is missing items. The items were "in stock" when I put them in my cart, and checked out, but after order confirmation, items are missing from the order. It would seem that they could have an system in place that would deduct items as they are purchased from their inventory. When all the inventory is gone, the item would then show as out of stock. This just happened again today. The same item was not sent. It will be 4 months trying to get the item, and it could very well be missing from my order next time if I continued to business with them. I find that some of their prices are a little lower, and I do mean a little, but most are the same as in the store. I do like being able to buy the real large sizes, like 25lb bag of grains and beans. I think I will return to ordering these from my coop, which also gives me a bulk price discount.
Relative_Remove6190@reddit
They sold me $200 worth of moldy food and refused to refund or credit me even after I sent them the requested pics. I had spent thousands of dollars over many years with them, only to be treated like complete garbage over $200?! Horrible co. and ethics. They will never get another penny from me
Ill-Ad-1828@reddit
I was wondering about this… bulk grains and beans can have mold (aflatoxins are one concern)… not sure of their QAQC to keep this monitored and safe.
FB_ratio@reddit
I’ve ordered from Azure over many years… they have grown a lot and with growth comes some problems in customer service. As mentioned by Relative_Remove, when poor quality issues are brought to their attention, including the photo evidence they request, they deny the problem. I use Azure to buy organic items in bulk at fair prices. 95% of the time quality is acceptable, but when they call a bad product ”normal”, buyer beware. In years past, issues were handled by management, now the customer service department runs interference for management. So, for 95% of your shopping, Azure is recommended, but stay away from their 30lb organic peanuts, on this bulk item QC is non-existent.
