Have you ever screamed at a piece of equipment or software?

So let me tell you a story about emotional response: ------- I was playing one of those video games back in college, where Mario was beating up other Mario characters. Not my jam, but I was a Resident Advisor in the dorms, so it was important for me to "connect" with my residents. Age difference....they were around 2-3 years younger than I was. I'm not a "boomer", just someone who never really played video games. I was losing left and right, which was to be expected. I barely could find the buttons on that monstrosity of a three-armed controller (seriously, you needed THREE hands to play it, it looked like a trident spear). And my residents play this game *all* the time, so at their worst was far better than my best. I just shrugged and kept on going. I knew I sucked, nothing to get upset at. We were having a "good" time. Well, -they- were and that's all that mattered. One match, it came down to me vs one of the better players, a chest-beating show-off sort of kid. Whatever. However, somehow, I won against him. Everyone in the room was shocked. Including me, I literally didn't even know what I did. "Wait, seriously, that's a win?" He got furiously mad. Beet red face, yelling out swear words. He threw the controller so hard, it put a dent in the wall. Naturally I had to write him up for his conduct, and before the end of the year he failed out. Genuine anger management issues. ------ The rest of the floor talked about it afterwards, and the lesson everyone learned was this: # It doesn't matter if you have amazingly smart people on your team. If they handle themselves with emotional volatility, they're a liability when things don't go right. --- So no, I don't yell or get violent. It doesn't serve any purpose, and doing so would speak ill of my professionalism. That doesn't mean certain things don't frustrate me....they --absolutely do--. I don't want people like controller-thrower on my team, especially when things get messy, bad, or downright ugly. I can't count on them to not make the situation worse.
