I did. It was infected for months.

No, but I gave myself my first tattoo at 13. India ink, a needle and some thread.

CreatrixAnima@reddit (OP)

What was the thread for?
View on Reddit #16041684

basementhookers@reddit

Holds the ink longer.

Hm. Smart 13-year-old!

I did but it was the “wrong” ear. Turned out to be the right ear but I just didn’t know it yet.

I never figured out, which was which, but I don’t think it meant anything for girls? Maybe I’m wrong. I don’t know. So I have no idea

My mother did my first set, when I was little, I did my second, & a 3rd in 1 ear. It was ice & pushed the earring through when it felt frozen 👍

Yeah In 8th grade with an earring of all things

Holes 4-6 , with a pair of piercing earrings from Claire's. Just punched em through. I've since let those three holes close up, though, because I wear a headset at work and it pushes the posts into my head.

Our parents were highly disapproving of piercings. So one of my siblings "had to" go the DIY route, with a dart. It was likewise infected for months.

My mom did mine with a sewing needle, ice, and a potato when I was 8. Took me an hour or so to work up the nerve to let her do the 2nd ear, the ice really didn't numb it enough. I went to an actual piercer this year when I decided I wanted my upper lobes and helix pierced. It was a much better experience! The flat back labrets they use now are so much nicer than those awful butterfly backs!

Nope. When my niece was born, I did joke that I would take her and my Mexican grandmother to the mall just so we could "watch" the other babies get their ears pierced. My grandmother was so totally onboard with this, and was considerable let down when my sister was adamant that this will not be happening.

Yup! Fifth of Jack Daniels, ice, and a safety pin. Still have them.
View on Reddit #15643847

OlderNerd@reddit

No, because I wasn't a loser
View on Reddit #15641575

MollieDogMom@reddit

Yup! Second and third holes. Rubbing alcohol, ice cubes, and a needle.
View on Reddit #15638873

ItaDapiza@reddit

I didn't but nearly all my friends did.
View on Reddit #15634643

meekonesfade@reddit

Friends gave me a third hole with a safety pin when we were in HS. I pierced another friend's ear that way when we were in college. We "steralized" the pin with a lighter beforehand.

Mine was done at the mall with my friend..my dad was pissed 🤭
View on Reddit #15631687

ItzNuckinFutz@reddit

Both ears. I just used an earring and rubbing alcohol.

StupidOldAndFat@reddit

A girl I was dating wussed out on #1 and insisted we do it at the mall. #’s 2, 3 and 4 I did with a little help from my old pal Jack Daniel. TBH, the gun at the Piercing Pagoda was way worse than just jamming it through.

Girlfriend did mine with a needle and lots of booze when we were 15.

That’s how I did my boyfriend’s at the same age. He joined the military after we got married and had to keep taking it out, the forgot to put it back in so it closed. I offered to do it again, but he declined.

wordnerd3939@reddit

College roommates and I did the ice cubed second piercings. Just jammed a regular earring through. We were, of course, drunk at the time. Early 1990s.

JadedLadyGenX@reddit

Gave myself a second piercing with an ice cube and needle. My mom let me give her one too. I was about 17?

Happy-Detective5544@reddit

Yup! Classic 7 in each ear thing.
View on Reddit #15625626

TatlinsTower@reddit

I pierced my nose with a safety pin after using an ice cube to “numb” the pain. Spoiler: it did not numb the pain.
View on Reddit #15623454

CreatrixAnima@reddit (OP)

There were so many things I should have done that didn’t. Apparently people used a potato to catch the needle and back. I did not do that. I think I used some rubbing alcohol to sterilize it, I hope… But I don’t know. I didn’t use ice.it was quite a difficult task, so I’m still pretty proud of myself for having accomplished it.
View on Reddit #15625374

TatlinsTower@reddit

Oh I realized halfway in that it was a very bad idea, but I’m no quitter, so I pushed through (literally). I think I used vodka to “sterilize it” and then got vodka up my nose. Not my finest hour.
View on Reddit #15625498

CreatrixAnima@reddit (OP)

I won’t realized it was a very bad idea, also, but I pushed through as well!

The first ear piercing was at a kiosk at the mall. The next three I did myself with a lighter, rubbing alcohol and the sharpest needle in my mom’s sewing kit. No infection on any of them.

MiasmAgain@reddit

One of the ear piercings, yes. It was fine.
View on Reddit #15624527

AiCanDM@reddit

Yeah we used to get drunk at my parents lakehouse and just shove the earing thorough our ear. We were listening to LL Cool J..."it's jinglin baby...go ahead baby" lol. They were, of course, jingling ear rings!

View on Reddit #15623205

solomons-marbles@reddit

No, had one ear done after a couple of beers as a freshman in HS with a safety pin, by a SR girl. My dad saw it the next morning and said something along the lines of, you or I can take that out. I took it out. Different times.
View on Reddit #15622986

Nighthawk378@reddit

Ice and a potato. Suffered for that lightning bolt earring.
View on Reddit #15621947

JumpReasonable6324@reddit

My mom took me to a jewelry store to get my ears pierced when I was 13. About a year later, I decided I needed another hole in my left ear, and pierced my own in my bathroom. I numbed my earlobe with an ice cube and pierced it with a safety pin. Never had any problem.
View on Reddit #15620713

Taco_El_Paco@reddit

Did it a few times. Compass tip and vodka. Possibly got infected, can't remember

Thumbtack and eraser of course. The ear ring was 992 sterling silver and I healed in a week or two.

Duh. And my nose. Was smart enough to let the pros handle the sensitive piercings thankfully smh
View on Reddit #15618062

FixJealous2143@reddit

Yes. In Spanish class. I’m a child of the 80s so I had four in one ear and two in the other. I don’t use all those pierces anymore but they are still there, discretely waiting for the Madonna/ Cindy Lauper revival. 😉

Nope but I tried to pierce my own belly button using my mom‘s ear piercing kit. Ended up slowly passing out on the kitchen floor, surrounded by my friends ha ha ha.
View on Reddit #15617422

The first holes were machine made. The rest were self made with no booze involved.

Ears, belly button and nose. Luckily I was smart enough to pay a professional to do my tongue and nipples.
View on Reddit #15615554

imvii@reddit

Both ears several times, nose, and nipples. I had one ear pierce go bad because I did it with a safety pin at a party and just left it in. All the others were fine though.

Yeah, when I was 17. Chose the weekend after my wisdom teeth were pulled. I was on painkillers and antibiotics. So figured why not.
View on Reddit #15613957

I tried. Got close, but couldn't get the needle through the other side.

I pierced my own nipple with a hat pin. It got really infected and was excruciatingly painful. Do not recommend.
