Have they reduced the number of trailers shown in the cinema?

The last two times I’ve been to the cinema (at a Vue and a Cineworld) I swear the number of trailers that get shown before the film has significantly reduced. At the Vue only two trailers were shown and at Cineworld there were only three. I swear that they used to show five or six trailers before a film. If this is the case, why aren’t there as many trailers as there used to be?

I thought the same thing when I went yesterday. Possibly depends what you’re watching though as they’d only show appropriate trailers for the audience.

Well the film I went to see at the Vue was a 15, the next was a 12 and I went to see Wonka yesterday which is a PG, that only had one trailer.

Less trailers more ads. I remember at Cineworld when the trailers would finish you’d get one extra ad for Cineworld then the film would start. Now you get an extra five plus minutes of ads. I’ve timed that from the time of the screening to the film starting is pretty much 30 minutes give or take a couple.

They've reduced the number of film trailers, but increased the number of adverts. Cineworld (when I worked there about 10 years ago) was always 26 minutes of pre-roll before the film started, and it'd be about 5-10 minutes of ads, with the rest trailers, then one last wee advert (usually a car) then the film would start. Now it's like 6-8 minutes ads, 12 minutes trailers, 4-6 minutes ads.

I think you are right, and I presume it's because there seems to be fewer films coming out, especially big blockbusters.
