I was referring to the gun's caliber not the specific load, but your are correct. 357 is not generally subsonic although you can load it as such. 38 special often is, however, out of a 16" barrel, a lot of 38 special is supersonic too.
Holy smokes I didn't realize this was what leverguns cost these days. Ten years ago I bought an old Sears Ted Williams 100 (a rebranded post-64 Winchester) for $150. Looking at GB even those have doubled and tripled.
I know it's kind of the same story with most wood-and-steel firearms but still comes as a shock to see 4 digits.
I got Miroku Winchester 1892 a couple years ago for $950. I would take that any day over a Marlin or Henry, but they seem to pop up maybe once a year, and sell out in a week.
I have an original marlin made in 1984 that’s the carbine length, no threaded barrel of course but man is it light in handy if you haven’t handled one of these the 16 inch carbine version is very light and super fun to shoot even better when you put really mild 38 send it it’s basically like shooting a 22 it’s so soft.
