Please detune the ILS

Just curious… what is this about ? And why 108.00 ?
View on Reddit #15583782

Spaceinpigs@reddit

Cleans up the display. 108.00 is the start of ILS frequencies and no ILS that I’m aware uses it so you won’t accidentally receive a signal from elsewhere

Thanks

To what? D, A, or G?

108.00

Anyone know the function of the “Auto” position on the taxi light?

Blue------@reddit

Finally flew in a United MAX 8 not too long ago and it was a pretty nice aircraft honestly

Look out! theres swarms of bees on the radar!

It's crazy how almost identical this cockpit is (especially the overhead) to the original 737 built in the 60's (maybe early 70's?)

OP maybe you shouldn’t be a know it all and be nice. Not all TAT probes are aspirated, older versions aren’t and require probes heat to be off rather than packs on. Just because your carrier has a certain configuration doesn’t mean other carriers have the same. Also Gotta love the fuel quantity in pounds….only in America…

_Prestige_Worldwide_@reddit

Which button makes the MCAS not crash the plane?
View on Reddit #15409453

zed4151@reddit

TAT +48C, eh? That’s a little hot, even for NOLA
View on Reddit #15387201

Practical_Feedback75@reddit (OP)

TAT is sometimes higher than the actual outside temperature. NOLA never gets that hot even in the summer.
View on Reddit #15387502

zed4151@reddit

>TAT is sometimes higher than the actual outside temperature TAT is **always** equal to ambient temperature at zero velocity. Tell me you don’t understand thermodynamics without telling me you don’t understand thermodynamics.
View on Reddit #15387683

Practical_Feedback75@reddit (OP)

So perhaps an incorrect sensor reading or what do you suppose?
View on Reddit #15387796

zed4151@reddit

Residual heat from the heated body of the probe.
View on Reddit #15387877

F1shermanIvan@reddit

Bleeds don’t do anything to the pitot-static system. And that overhead is an abomination.
View on Reddit #15389282

zed4151@reddit

Yes… yes they do. The TAT probes are aspirated by bleed air. Pretty typical setup for transport category aircraft.
View on Reddit #15389349

Punkrawk78@reddit

Except the TAT probe on NG and Max aircraft is not aspirated, it’s electrically heated.
View on Reddit #15390757

zed4151@reddit

It’s electrically heated AND aspirated.
View on Reddit #15390925

Punkrawk78@reddit

Well spank my ass and call me Charlie. All the info I’ve found says aspirated probes have a separate test button, which is present on the Classic, but that doesn’t appear to be the case on the NG/Max.
View on Reddit #15392068

zed4151@reddit

I think they did away with the test button, but the probe is still aspirated. Otherwise you get erroneous readings like in the picture OP posted, because there was no high pressure bleed air source at that moment.

Gen_Vila@reddit

SWA 73 driver. Spoiler: All our probes are non-aspirated. Never underestimate our willingness to cheap out. Plus make sure you disclose your mental illness on your next medical.

Easytank@reddit

This is an ironic thread...I'd love for you to show me where the TAT Test button is on that overhead panel...Southwest does not order aircraft with aspirated probes, although they do have a few with them from acquisitions.
View on Reddit #15398222

Easytank@reddit

They do have a separate button. The are an option, not standard. The test button is under the probe heat switches if they are aspirated. This guy is just on a confidently incorrect rampage.
View on Reddit #15398297

F1shermanIvan@reddit

Well look at that. Learned something new.
View on Reddit #15389451

zed4151@reddit

I wouldn’t expect a turboprop pilot to understand jet aircraft systems.

sanaustintx@reddit

aw man I was rooting for you until I read this
View on Reddit #15400374

F1shermanIvan@reddit

I’m so very glad we’ll never share a cockpit, because you’re an asshole.
View on Reddit #15389774

zed4151@reddit

Yeah, I’m definitely glad I don’t live in Canada and have to work with guys who pretend to know what they’re talking about.

Jealousy isn’t a good look for you. Anyway, I gotta go count my money. See ya, lil bro
View on Reddit #15391674

zed4151@reddit

Seems to me there’s quite a few confidently incorrect contributors to this thread.
View on Reddit #15389512

aphtirbyrnir@reddit

Aspirated TAT probes are an option. I don’t remember if SWA has it or not but I’m pretty sure they don’t.
View on Reddit #15401246

Practical_Feedback75@reddit (OP)

Ah that makes sense I appreciate the information.
View on Reddit #15387960

zed4151@reddit

Now go read about total air temperature because you clearly don’t understand it.
View on Reddit #15388034

Practical_Feedback75@reddit (OP)

A you're welcome would've been nice, but yes I think I should go do that because reading the first source of information without having all details provided wasn't very helpful lol.

Better hope low oil pressure goes away or you wont be going anywhere 😎
View on Reddit #15393509

tdscanuck@reddit

The engines are off. I’d be pretty concerned if they *didn’t* have low oil pressure.
