You made the right choice thats what i originally wanted to get but my local gun store didn't have one and it was a complete impulse buy and then ny made so you have to be 21 to buy any semiautos so im just stuck with this for now
I know this is an really old thread, but I had success by dremeling out the back of the mag well so the magazine could sit at a more natural handgun angle
I don’t, my biggest issue was a failure to feed and they were always pointed up into the chamber. I tried polishing the chamber before looking into the how the bullets were angled from the mag being straight up and down.
There was plenty of metal in the back of the mag well to grind. In the end the gun ran great when I held the mag back at the new angle. I have a 3d printer now, I should print out a mag well insert for the front side to angle it back
I didn’t get a chance to look at it yesterday, but I was thinking that if I couldn’t attach a magwwll wedge, I could make a magazine sleeve that had the same wedge built into it
I believe aesthetics got it the way of functionality. The original 30cal was vertical, this one should be too I guess. I’ll sit down soon with some calipers and take measurements. See what I can print and find a way to attach it. The gun is sweet in concept though
Mine had bad recoil springs and bad magazines. I replaced them. Cleaned and lubed everything well. Ran well until the bolt broke a few hundred rounds later. No regrets selling.
OP. I have one. It came with 2-10 round mags. The mags sucked ass. I used stock mags I had for the Beretta 92. It did jam up at first as well, a lot actually, especially the first like 6 rounds. I striped it down completely to the bolt. I cleaned and lubed everything, on top of changing the mags. I have not any problems with it since. I love it, I wish I didn’t buy it though.
This gun could be a piece of shit… but I noticed that you rack, rack, rack, then tap, tap, tap. Maybe you’re just nervous because you’re filming yourself. But tap after rack - doesn’t help anything unless you rack again.
Ok. Well there is a reason the procedure is tap, rack, bang. And not rack, tap, bang… no offense meant here but you look nervous as shit dealing with a malfunction. Like I said maybe it’s just because you’re filming yourself. I would recommend training malfunctions (properly) more.
I have been trained by some of the best instructors in America, and also train professionals in shooting. I won’t claim to be the best because I’ve seen a lot of guys who I aspire to be like.
My first assessment, before I’d agree that it’s a shit gun… is that your hand movements are relatively useless. If you manage to clear malfunctions with your technique, then it’s just luck.
Sold mine also. Gun wouldn’t jam if you use higher grain ammo but it was during peak Covid in Southern California so it was impossible to find anything higher than 115 grain. It’s also a hassle to disassemble. They also say you can use regular beretta mags but that’s not true. I have an M9A1 with different brands for mags I use and none of those mags would chamber or feed properly into the chiappa. Also you can’t lock the bolt back at all unless you have the really early models that came with it. Why would they remove this feature? Such a pain in the ass.
Try buying NATO standard milsurp, they are 124gr +p. But be careful you don't get the stuff designed for the MP5/PCC as that's +P+. But the milsurp stuff is usually sold below market.
35,001-38,500PSI is +P. If you're saying that NATO standard is hotter than factory ammo IT'S above 35,000PSI then it's +P. NATO 9MM is loaded to 36,500PSI making it +P.
Before you started shooting I could’ve sworn this was the UK, the weather, the trees, coat etc. Then I realized it was a semi auto center fire and I knew it wasn’t in fact the UK…
All of my M-1 Carbines function perfectly. Failures to feed are rare. You need to inspect the rifle and parts as suggested by Moustache_6 if you have a persistent problem with this.
I suggest replacing all of your springs (rifle & magazines) if you haven't done that yet, then take corrective actions as needed. Remove clean and inspect you piston + piston nut. Also might be wise to check your headspacing and also gauge your bolt & barrel too while your at it... surplus M1 Carbines are old rifles that suffer from old & worn out parts.
Doing the above combined with using quality ammo & magazines should significantly improve your M1's reliability.
A few additional things to keep in mind;
Magazines were/are designed to be disposable so check your mags for deformation & fit, and also many make sure they're internally clean and clear of obstructions. Lastly, if I recall correctly the ammunition specs back then called for 2,000 FPS measured at 50ft from the muzzle... so make sure your ammo isn't under-powered.
a USGI surplus M1 is a fun gun if reliable, but in 2023, AR-15s are cheap and actually work without having to do a bunch of spooky machinespirit incantations.
man, i could have told you that if you asked BEFORE you bought it. a Chiappa M1 carbine reproduction that uses non-standard magazines is a triple Red Flag
I have a m1-22 that I'm gonna be selling soon. Only paid $18 for it cause I had the rest in Cabela's rewards cash, so $268 actual. Came with some shitty scope on it I managed to zero at 100yd but I'd rather use the money for something else.
My m1 9 was absolutely junk. Probably a 20 lb trigger, unreliable, and would spontaneously disassemble itself after 2 or three mags (regardless of how tight you screwed it down)
As an ex-RSO and firearms instructor I'll point out the main three causes of malfunctions.
1. Cheap/old magazines. These account for almost every FTF I've seen.
2. Cleaning/lubrication. Lead cause of FTE.
3. Cheap ammo. Both FTE/FTF issues.
I've only seen a handful of firearms in over 20 years that were not fixed by addressing those 3 issues, none of which has anything to do with the firearm itself.
Auto ordinance M1 carbine owner here. I go through the same thing but recently came to the conclusion that the only ammo I can use to make sure I don’t deal with a jam is Armscor. Fun gun to shoot but it’s not worth shooting with the price of ammo.

Was originally going to get one of these but ended up going with a Ruger PC Carbine instead. Looks like that was the right decision.

Yeah thats the same issue mine has. The rounds sit at way too much of a angle

readitt20@reddit
I’ve only shot it out to 50y. It was not the tightest group either. This is also shooting and zeroing from a shooting rest.
3dprintedbussy@reddit (OP)
Yeah on a rest the best ive gotten was like 5 moa
readitt20@reddit
I wish I didn’t buy it, but now I have it and I guess will hold onto it. If you get the chance do buy a ruger pc9.

No it does help i can solve most if the malfunction by either smacking the mag for pushing down on the bolt

Safety_Sam@reddit
I believe I see a m1 carbine, maybe reproduction? Try usgi magazines, the reproduction ones are notoriously unreliable.

Its actually a chiappa m1-9 it uses beretta 92fs mags

Jesus christ, give a cancer warning before you write something like that.

Probably won't help, but try hot ammo for awhile.

Yes, I think Winchester makes a NATO level 9mm that isn't much more expensive than their regular plinking ammo.

I hate to hear how poorly it runs. I have the chiappa 22 variant and it runs fine. I was actually looking at getting the 9mm…
