A Reminder That We Used to Have Nice Things

So this video predates most of us, it aired a few months before I was born, but it's a perfect reminder that we used to have nice things, until ESPN happened. With the exception of the host, how can anyone watch this and not prefer it to the garbage that ESPN rolls out for the Heisman presentation today? So much greatness, including the commercials. I would just like the Heisman to go to someone who isn’t a quarterback. With a few exceptions, it is a quarterback award these days. A non-quarterback has only won the award twice since the year 2000. If you look through the 80s and 90s it was fairly distributed among receivers, running backs, and quarterbacks… with Charles Woodson being a rare exception at cornerback. I really don’t care that they make it into a huge production, I usually don’t watch anyway. It’s the same with CBS and March Madness, where they stretch the selection process into it freaking two hour TV show. This was kind of a wild example, but I get where you are coming from. Hell, the NFL draft used to be held in a hotel conference room. Now it is a huge three day event that attracts thousands of people. I get it, if it’s popular keep it going, but sometimes I wish for simpler times…
