Anyone else struggle with people from your own country?

I’ve found this to be drastically overstated. The worst American behavior I’ve ever seen (that wasn’t a clinically mentally ill person) is Americans being really bad at geography and saying dumb shit like “I thought Swiss people spoke Swiss?”, or, “they have white people in Mexico?” The only truly abhorrent behavior I’ve seen it by British people. If you get a group of maybe 5 British lads together they become unbearable. They break things, are excessively vulgar, say random horrible shit to strangers (especially to girls) indiscriminately for some reason, and frequently run through the streets at night yelling at the top of their lungs. This has been my experience all over Europe, and it’s been supported by the locals I’ve talked to, who generally assert that Americans are dumb but the British are horrible. I think also a contributing factor to this is that every American is extremely terrified of any interaction with a foreign police presence, whereas for British people who have more exposure to other European police aren’t as afraid. Disclaimer that I am American and this is all conjecture and anecdotal. TLDR I have never ONCE seen, heard of, or read about any American ever “yelling at someone for not speaking English”. I also speak Spanish and an in a Spanish speaking country and this scene you wrote feels very far from observable, especially to have happened more than once to become a trend as you imply.
