Has anyone with gardens/lawns not yet mowed the grass this year?

I've been wanting to get the grass cut now for a few weeks after we had a short spell of dry/warm weather (which of course ended come the weekend), but it seems every single week we've had rain in some manner that's completely thwarted any plans for gardening work where I live. The grass is probably now around six inches/half a foot and it's driving me insane how bad it's looking, but I daren't even attempt the first cut of the year if it's still more or less saturated. Anyone else in a similar situation? Once the first cut is done it's easy to maintain but it's always the first one that drives me insane every year.

Haven't mowed yet. Ours is not a large lawn, but it is heavy clay soil and is waterlogged until May usually anyway. Trying to cut it, even with a Flymo, just results in it looking like hammered $h1t. Neighbours over the road have a small front lawn which they haven't mown yet either, it's covered in dandelions and looks brilliant. Seriously, folk pay for uglier flowers.
