Social media fatigue?

Is anyone else with me when I say I’m totally burnt out by social media? I started to feel it before the pandemic. Come Covid I deactivated my Facebook account and only used Instagram. Now I find I’ll scroll through Instagram maybe once a day and no longer bother contributing. I guess the only social media I use now is Reddit. Anyone else feel bored with social media? I know we were at the frontier of it. Is it more likely for us to get social media fatigue than others?

YES. I've been feeling this a lot lately. I logged out of Instagram and haven't looked at it in weeks. I know that isn't much, but I used to look at it every day even when I wasn't posting anything myself. I feel completely burnt out with social media. And I think for me, it's because I've been using it in some form for almost 20 years. I got on MySpace right after I graduated HS in 2003. Not long after, we all migrated to FB. I used FB for a long time before parents and older relatives, and all of their friends made their way onto the app. I checked out and haven't been back in years. Then, I moved on to insta, and I did love sharing photos because I love photography and it felt like a place where unlike FB where you see constant streams of statuses of people's thoughts and opinions; I could just see photos and share mine. Then comes along tiktok. I do enjoy the app, and I like that the content you consume is based off of the algorithm of the content you interact with. So, my feed is a mixed bag of music and food reviews, recipes, clothing and style, and cats. So that's fun for a few minutes and then I'm done. All of this to say, social media fatigue is real and I intend to use and consume less of it.

I feel similarly. I still use IG for sharing photos with family, but that and Reddit are it for me. I'm tired of the main character syndrome that's running rampant. My teen kids don't have any social media either, by choice. They've decided it's too fake and I agree that it's become that way.
