Why exactly did the build team leave near the end of the show's run?

I've heard different reasons as to why Kari, Grant and Tory left after the 2014 season. What's the official word on this?
To me, the show felt a little "empty" when it was just Adam and Jamie in the final two seasons of the original show.

Sorry for Necro-ing the post, but Kari and Tori just started a podcast called "Mythfits", and they tell the full BTS story about why they left.
Apparently, the network wanted to cut costs, as many other comments have said.
But they did so by making a renewal contract that was essentially un-signable.
The renewal contract for Kari, Tori, and Grant only had them working on "mini myths" for the next season, for only 3 weeks of the next year, but also had a non-compete/exclusivity clause where they weren't allowed to work for ANY other network or show for a year.
They'd only be getting paid for those 3 weeks, too. Nothing for the rest of the year.
It forced them to refuse the contract.
And then, apparently, one of the producers a little bit later claimed in an interview that the trio was let go because they were asking for more and more money, essentially saying it was their fault for being too greedy. Just as an additional kick while they were down, I guess.

If you read the interview in Entertainment Weekly -- it's still on the web -- it turns out that the producer didn't actually say they asked for more money. He just said there were contract negotiations and as a result they decided not to return. It was the EW reporter that implied they wanted more money.
(Still a jerk move by the production company, but let's place the blame accurately.)

Ahhh, okay. Man, no journalistic integrity. Jeez.

Tori and Kari answered this on their podcast. The producers docked their working hours considerably down to just a few weeks out of the year and said they were not allowed to film anything for anyone else while under that contract. Studio forced them to quit to save face.

Glad you posted this update. The prevailing answer is the one a producer gave in Entertainment Weekly years ago and many people believe that to be the truth.
Hear the story right from Kari and Tory themselves right here at about 33ish minutes in.

Contract negotiations.
IMO it was far better after they left. 6 hosts is way too many for an hour long show.

The first few season of the show felt empty without the trio, and it was never the same after them. They were 1000% equally essential to the show as Adam and Jamie were and it was a lifeless show without them, before and after.

You mean 5. But fair enough. Still, I felt something was missing once they left.

Agreed, the show was missing the excitement, and energy that they brought. The Myths the last couple years were also not as intriguing.

That’s because they were all based off tv shows and movies.
