When's a time you've seen 'banter' take a nasty turn?

I've always hated it because it just seems like a way for someone to be a dickhead and laugh it off as 'banter' but the main reason I don't like it is because all it takes is for someone to say something that another person takes personally and suddenly it gets awkward real fast and the tone in the room has now changed dramatically.
