Oh my God I love the mavvy 88, eventually swap out the handguard and trigger assembly to the metal one (you should have an extra parts kit atleast anyways)
And your golden, you pretty much got a 500 if you swap to a 500 forend and a 590 trigger group
Online, wolverinesupplies. Don't search up 88 action slide just buy any 500 kind for the type of pump hand fore hold area or whatever the shit it's called you want the 7 inch for shorter non field type pump hand areaI think alot of people don't realize how similar 88s and 500 series are, can buy 590a1 parts aswell like metal trigger group, barrel, etc
I got a Mav 88 when they first came out, only lasted a year before it started misfiring. I’ve got a semiauto ATA 12g that’s been excellent for 6 years now.
There was a run of 88s in the early 00's that had a lot of issues. I worked at a gun shop around then and we had a lot of them come back.
They got it sorted out but it took a while for the 88's reputation to recover.
Dude I recently got a Turkish Tokarev because I didn't know the company was still around... It's a marine shotgun for only $300 MSRP and it low-key fucks. Picked up mine for about $250 and I've put a couple hundred rounds through it and it's not yet jammed.
Im sorry but I have to ask...Why EVERY gun?

only reasons in my opinion could be....
1. Birth of a child (even though I would feel safer with a weapon to protect them)
2. Needed the money
3. A woman
4. Became a Felon
5. Lost your damn mind.
OH OH OH OH.... I didn't sell **every gun I own**.
But I sold many. And every gun I sold, I regret, because I wish I had them still, instead of the money. Makes sense?
Me too. I miss my Mossberg 500 that I sold in 2021, but I used it for ten years and somehow still made a big profit on it. I’ve got Benelli Supernova pumps and a couple of Italian semi autos, among others. Maybe someday I’ll get another Mossy.
Same.. It really is like owning a 500 and not realizing it's a good shotgun worth keeping. The price kind of tricks you a little because you're like ahhh I need the money and I want this other thing, so I can just buy another laterr
I know right
It's just a 500 that has a fixed forend and plastic monolithic trigger assembly /pack or whatever you want to call it and it bothers me when the newer youTubers want to trash it when it's far closer to the 500 than they realize. Finish and safety type and placement are the only ergonomic differences.
I hit a gun show this weekend and, F, the amount of Turkish shotguns. There was a Saiga clone, and the tag read:
"SAIGA!
clone
Turkish Made"
Lionel Hutz level of salesmanship right thre.
The real ones have a huuuuuge issue with gases pertaining to orings or something, I have owned tons of the real ones in a search for the perfect tactical shotgun. I am thinking of a letter, a solution if you will, it starts with a B.
It will never cycle properly, I tried every single one I could get my hands on when they were everywhere. In fact, I have a o ring kit left of the 100s of combos I tried to make that thing shoot twice......I am exaggerated on the never, but that shit is jam city.
I have two maverick 88s, one in 12 gauge and the other 20 gauge. Absolutely love them, and they are really the best shotgun for the price.
The cheap Mexican made parts in the 88 feel much nicer than anything Turkish. I have a Turkish double barrel that I like but only because I wanted a cheap gun for shooting trap and skeet. If I’m not shooting clays I use the other shotguns instead.
You are best served by pretty much never buying what the store employees are pushing. There are exceptions to this. I have a pawn shop on my route that calls me whenever they get that weird old shit I like so I can peruse whatever oddball they’ve got before it goes on the wall.
Pretty much went into a LGS with my sights on a Mossberg Maverick 88.
The clerk asked me what I'd do with it, and the instant I got "home defense" out of my mouth, this mfer was ADAMANT that this shitty 20ga with an action that felt like dragging a grand piano across a gravel beach would be better.
Yeah. I'll totally put my life in the hands of that $275 Turkish made shotgun.
Kinda feel like a moron for paying $325 for a maverick 88 now. Fuck.
That's very underrated. I went to a "gun store" and was looking for .260 ammo. The old man behind the counter, instead of looking where I was pointing and talking about, told me he hadn't heard of it, asked what it was for, listed a few calibers he knew of that sounded the same and so on. At scheels, they look where you're telling them and answering what you ask. That's all I want them to do and they don't have a problem saying I don't know
Probably just wanted to offload them because they weren’t selling. I have a buddy who wasn’t a gun guy, but was excited to tell me he bought his first AR15. Turned out to be one of those AR style shotguns. I’m assuming the LGS was trying to offload them onto someone who didn’t know any better.
Jesus assrape fuckery is that the retail market now?
It wasn't *that* long ago I got a fucking blackwater edition 590A1 for $400. I think the "regular" was $350.
simply put, the maverick 88 is a mossberg 500 with the safety in a different spot for less than half the price.
aint nobody want that goofy ahh turshotgat
Yyou dont see maybe how this might, I dunno...make you look a certain way? or actually confirm what you are? Are you from waxahatchie or Amarillo? I think I have seen you before.
I don't understand. Turkey shotguns are trash but when it comes to clone pistols they are not like their shotgun quality. Is it because of a different company?
I’m pretty sure it’s a whole bunch of different companies making civilian firearms there. It’s like manufacturing in China - they are very capable of making quality stuff. However, whether or not they actually care about doing so and put any effort into QC depends entirely on the contract and companies involved.
A respectable company with some brand recognition may have guns manufactured there (ie. CZ, Beretta, Stoeger, etc.), but they are going to have actual standards and reject garbage. They’re also going to work with factories that have demonstrated that they can make firearms competently.
If however some obscure company is willing to pay a cheaply run factory to crank out garbage-tier tacticool shotguns for idiots, and slap their name on it with no care for how shitty the guns are, well they are going to do exactly that.
I love my Poverty88. Runs like a champ. No failures ever, & she'll eat anything you can throw at her. Bird, buck, slugs, magnum bird & buck, you name it, she'll eat it just fine.
One reason I want to start self-loading shells is so I can shoot random projectiles through my 88. The possibilities are endless. I'm thinking of trying spoons first
I bought a Mav88 and literally only fired once, took it to a gunsmith and still would fire. Ended up selling it to buy a Turkish shotgun, a 12GA Black Aces semiautomatic. I'm glad yall had a good experience with Mav88's but I like my shotgun I have now as it literally has never failed.
That's why I order it online first. I don't want to do anything but look at the gun and buy it. Tired of people trying to tell me about other weapons. No, I don't want a Glock lol.
I was told that while carrying a 1911, yeah dude I have several glocks too why specifically come up and try to tell me what I should carry? So I feel your annoyance there just like with cars we all have preferences.
About ten years ago, I went into a gun store absolutely dead set on buying a Ruger LCP. The store clerk tried *so hard* to talk me into a Kel-Tec .380 that just *looked* like a piece of shit. I'm glad that I stuck to my guns (no pun intended), and I still love that little pocket pistol.
I bought a Russian sks off gunbroker a few years ago and had it sent to one of the local shops. I go in to do the paperwork for it and the old guy working the counter proceeds to spend 20 minutes going on about how it's a communist pos and an M1a is so much better. Dude just run the paperwork take my $20 dollars I didn't come in for an opinion, it would be different if I asked what you think or what would be best. No I collect guns I have 2 M1a rifles and a garand already, I specifically sought that sks as part of my collection of com bloc guns. Never went back after that will not recommend them either, no different than when I'm carrying and someone feels obligated to tell me you should get a glock or a sig etc. Fuck it I'll carry my luger if I feel like why do people including gun shop owners/employees need to add their 2 cents?
They often cost less than counterparts, but that doesn't mean they're cheaper.
Buying something that will break after 10 shots for $150 is more expensive than buying something that will last a lifetime for $200.
